How does seasons work?

I see a lot of comments about seasons, are we forced to play them?

No, they are entirely optional. You can play on Eternal forever if you want.

Thank you for the answer! What is the difference from the Eternal Server though?

New content, ladder rankings, possibly some new gear. Don’t have all the details yet. Whatever you earn in Seasons will get carried to Eternal.

Downside: Every season you start from Level 1.

You do the same thing but there’s new trash to buy in the cash shop and leaderboards for esports normies.

If I never play seasons, and they add new gear, will it ever be obtainable in the eternal realm or the chance is lost forever?

It’ll usually show up in the main game after the Season ends. Some of the special mechanics will be Season only, but some of those will also be carried over if popular enough.

Typically, Season content moves to Eternal at the end of the Season. However, I’ve heard conflicting things about how D4 will work. Probs best to wait for the Dev Stream about the details.

I dont think anyone can force you to play a blizz game… At least in this country. I have read stories about other countries doing some things in their jails though.

The Chinese do something that may turn out to be pretty smart - they severely limit for how long you can play Blizzard games.

Seasons just give you another reason to play through the game from start to finish again, but with some added twists and the same fresh feeling as the release game since everyone is on the same level again.
