It shouldn’t even be exist, tbh. Blood Wave should just have a lower base cooldown. I feel like the only reason it doesn’t is because of this aspect, which no build has room for.
Blood Surge is pretty forgiving on enemy positioning, so can get by without the Corpse Tendrils repositioning. Not having it for cc is annoying, but have so much +life, fortify, and DR/DR when fortified as blood that I can get by without it. Also, Blood Wave with the 3x wave aspect is decent for cc/clumping enemies up, just on a long cooldown.

In a loot game: You will not have any uniques or game breaking synergies like the other specs have. You may share 2-3 but that’s it.
To make it playable:
You have to get Aspects for +speed on overpower and echo.
Your next go-to is resource gain. Early game this is your hemmorage +curse skills.
For late game resources then get the bone skill paragon board for essence on kill and respec it out when new boards can be obtained to keep the skills cheap
Get the blood orb skill but do NOT get the board… the unique is junk. Get the one with +15-15% with two corpses first… the blood orb board is debatable better than the overpower board because there is more + guaranteed damage vs conditional damage.
Oh and don’t get corpse what ever skill for crit that everyone else gets… put 1 point in blight and the pull aspect. Otherwise you’ll spend more time running around for loot than leveling.
PS: no idea what people are talking about with bosses and blood mist. When bosses are injured I pretty much 1 shot them. Blood mist is worthless waste of CC breaking…OMG wraith heart worthless… because that’s the only skill it works with.
The only reason I stick with this spec, besides utter mob pack carnage, is mega boss annihilation.
I got a blood /summoner hybrid and that is the best way to run with. Been playing necro all along since releases. Hybrid is the best
You surely can back up this claim with some sort of feats that a focused build didnt yet manage to achieve?
And also add info about how your damage contribution among your chosen skills is looking like (roughly estimating would be enough).

blood surge damage calc is broken. Minimum Nova damage vs 5 enemies at rank 9 is 20k. I commonly crit for less than that. 12.7k base+ 5k inhale + 50% for 5 enemies= I don’t care lol why… because of point 2

Paranormal Blood Surge is 100% broken. Every pack of mobs is at least 5 creatures. Therefore every healthy hit: I should Overpower the next hit.
This skills is broken. The fact that I am now level 90 is a testament to how blind and stubborn 1 man can really be.
Instead of giving up and using the 20 awesome uniques I have that don’t work for Blood Surge: I modified my tactics to make this brokenness work:

bone skill +essencse on death is required at all times. No essence. No blood surge . Once you get the points to add a board respec out of it. Add the new board then respect back.

Blood scent paragon - these are all guaranteed damage boosters fill this board out.
The glyph slot has 10!!! Yes 10!!! Wisdom nodes available with an upgraded glyph. Use this slot for overpower damage and get +250% to overpower! With Rathma Vigor you still get a guaranteed overpower every 12 seconds to maximize this fill the scent of death board
Damage to injured damage to healthy - all guaranteed whereas blood orb is “for 3 seconds” …and there are multiple problems with blood orbs.

unless you have the aspect for create a blood orb when you consume corpse you’ll never going to see any outside of boss fights much less every 4 seconds. And you still have to cast …move to orb …then cast. That’s 2 seconds wasted.

That’s 2 boards… next is flesh eater. Since we have both aspects mentioned above we consume 5 corpses every 6 seconds.
This build is all speed…so we are going to get the crit node, damage to elites and speed. That’s it.
Next board blood orbs for overpower damage. That’s it.
Either get some blood orb damage or add the shadow board to boost corpse explosion.
Take overpower gear but prioritize vulnerability and crit gear.
Gaurateed overpower is broken. There is just nothing else to pick. Don’t get skeletons either… sac them. Use a golem otherwise you are wasting 6+ skill points that could be put in essence or guaranteed damage. 400 damage per skeleton on a necklace for 2800 damage? That’s not even 5% of 50000 damage. That’s worthless. Stun with the golem with 1 item booster is more damage.
Only 1 point into hemmorage after lvl 50.
It’s only purpose is the generate essence and orbs
Edit: just specced out of hemmorage because it has the same % to spawn a blood orb as consume corpse aspect…but I only see blood orbs with the aspect and cast hemmorage 10x more than generate corpses…aka

Honestly I disagree with your thoughts on leveling with a surge necro. I started my 1st character on vet and didn’t struggle or have a hard time leveling. Only died I think twice maybe ? But I also have been playing since the launch of d1 and every game that had a necro as an option I chose as my main. Except d3 only due to the necro being a dlc later on so I picked a witch doctor to start. I guess it really just depends on your play style and how you choose to use your skill points , paragon points, upgrades to gear and lastly the actual gear you have. But I guess technically more times than not the average player will struggle trying to level a strictly blood necro. And to those people I’d suggest running a bone n blood necro . Or a shadow blood necro . Which tbh is a DoT necro between blight and blood lance. Also the necros ultimates really aren’t bad. If you use the right gear you can constantly have bone storm active for around 30+ seconds give or take some seconds. Flickerstep with tibaults and mothers embrace while dashing through mobs keeps essence going , keeps your health full and will give you your bonestorm back way before it runs out
Interesting reading these old comments. There’s certainly multiple different “cheap” resource gen methods. Getting your hands on the premium methods comes down to luck. Even something like Decompose aspect is powerful for the leveling process. Being able to go from 0% to 50% or 100% in 1.5sec is no joke.
Btw, for season 3, it’s a given that Moonrise and Ravenous is going to be discontinued. With just barebones D4, I already have an effective resource gen method waiting in the wings. It’s stupid and no one’s ever thought of it before and I haven’t seen anyone else do it either. It’ll still work in season 3 no matter what. If you get your hands on key aspects, it’s g fricken g.

Blood Surge and Blood Lance is viable right now to get into AoZ . There are multiple ways to restore Essences.
I have a Blood Lance Build that was able to reach AoZ and could level up its AoZ glyph. But I chose to not get hooked with its Carrots on Stick. Blood Surge seems easier than Blood Lance.
