Hi folks! WW Selig Barb here, Paragon 220, currently T12. I got a new Grandfather from the blacksmith today and would like feedback on whether it would be more desirable to use or not versus my current one.
Both are fully masterworked, tempered, and have what I think are the best affixes. Please see below and let me know what you think. Looking at the stats, maybe it’s just a question of what’s better - having physical damage multiplier or +strength. Thanks!
CURRENT GRANDFATHER
- 431 weapon damage
- 29.8% crit chance
- 63% crit strike damage multiplier (Occultist reroll)
- 25% physical damage multiplier
- 6.3% crit strike chance (temper)
- Transfiguration : NONE YET, too scared to transfig my fave GF with something like max life. But I understand a good transfig could elevate this one.
NEW GRANDFATHER
- 445 weapon damage
- 30.4% crit chance
- 63% crit strike damage multiplier
- +464 strength (Occultist reroll)
- 6.3% crit strike chance (temper)
- Transfiguration : +4 item quality

the physical damage multiplier will do more for you than the str affix. the plus four quality is a bad roll for the new one.
Thanks. Is the new one good enough to take a chance on transfiguring the current one? In case the transfig turns out to be max life or something?
Go use them at the Training Dummy and see what the difference is. Take out Gems before trying or make sure you have Gems in each when trying.
If you don’t notice a big difference, gamble your other Grandfather IMO.
while str is boosting armor and base skill damage, it’s not the same as that multiplier. if you’re nervous about the transfigure, farm for another one. or just keep in mind there are opportunities for others. i will find and craft stuff just to see what the cube will do to it.
on the training grounds, good tool for testing. i also test in the pit to see if there is a difference in clear times and overall feel of the run. did i drop the heart of stone? did i die? did the boss take longer to die?
The physical dmg would produce more output for a WW selig barb. Whirlwind are pure physical dmg. Plus grandfather doubles your critical strike so when the you crit with WW it multiples the dmg as well combines with the physical dmg multi.

464 strength is a 51% skill damage multiplier, its own separate multiplier bucket, which is significantly more than 25% physical damage multiplier. Don’t believe everything you’re told. Look up the D4 in depth damage formula breakdown for yourself on maxroll. It will help a lot having a full understanding of it.

I have been told recently that the weapon damage only works for the weapon you are using,
So 2h mace for a ww barb. Its counter intuitive especially since the tooltip comparison tells you its better with it but i did get rid of it on my dual wield weapons and did not see a drop in dps. It actually went up a bit as I was able to replace it with another stat.
check it out before you delete anything tho because I was only told about this 2 days back
He already rerolled a stat.
Two damage buckets normally are better than one. That means your favorite grandfather is probably the best choice. The question is you 2hs barb or is it just for the augment powers it brings to the table? That determines how you build your grandfather. Keep in mind Transfigure with no safe tuning crystals means way more possible powers but also chance you get a brick! By brick sometimes the unsafe version gives you indestructible power or augments an affix that is already max allowed value wasting the roll. Sometimes 2 percent of the time it lets you add another Transfigure though! Awesome when that happens. Safe tunning only allows handful of powers but never a brick that I have seen.
I made this post toward the end of S14. I am running a WW barb again in S15 and looking forward to crafting one of the new weapons like Insight.
