Glitch causing instant death while fighting T4 Varshan

I think there’s a bug/problem with damage scaling.

I was running Varshan T4s with a group and had not been taking damage. I (spirit born) wore Tyraels and armor and resistances were capped… Had earthen bulwark and barrier up.

Then suddenly on the 40th run or so, I get one shot… Any idea what happened here?! I play on console and I noticed today the game was increasingly laggy…

No, never, under any circumstances.

I think they once or twice did a server rollback in D3 when patch issues crash-killed like half the hardcore population (lol?) but that’s the only case I can think of that characters were revived. Similar circumstances in D4 did not lead to revivals afaik.

It must have been the stacking damage buff.

The Tormented bosses are just very risky on hardcore.
You can have tens or hundreds carefree runs, to then stand at the exact wrong position and get multiple in one second.

The stacks feel unfair and outside the normal damage system.
I think the pit version is better where it stops at 3.

Do pits really stop at 3? Never tested and hope not to lol.

How do stacks work on tormented bosses exactly? Do they basically automatically 1shot you past a certain point or they incrementally do more damage and it depends on how tanky you are?

I’ve done a bunch on Torment 2 and it’s really easy - never took any damage despite getting some stacks here or there. But I’m scared to try on T3 or t4 because I heard it gets a lot harder and without scrolls of escape I can’t even test it. Same goes for world bosses… do people do them past Torment 1 or everyone just hangs out at T1 and it’s not worth going/risking higher?

I think Nobody knows exactly how the damage from the stacking debuff is calculated. If I have to guess then I think they lower the resistances and armour further with every debuff you take, or add a huge damage multiplier.

This season I lost three characters on Tormented bosses. One on T2, two on T3.

T2 feels safe for most cause a bit decent geared character will kill a boss before the mechanics come into play.
I lost my character on Zir T2 cause I had a Rabid bear build without Shattered vow (mythic). I had Zir’s whole healthbar filled with poison, but I had to sit it out till he died. Because I never took the time to study the fight beforehand, I took too many debuffs and died.

I think the general consensus is that the stacks can get any character killed.
Four stacks is the most I survived.

When Varshan starts laying out carpets, and if you get hit by those, sometimes it can give multiple stacks immediately. Almost lost my rogue doing t4 Varshan. (my snapshotting was incorrectly done). So in the video here, the first hit got me 1 stack, but after the second hit, it went straight to 4 stacks, and my hp pool was almost wiped out. Had about 20k+ hp.

Yikes, lucky you managed to find a scroll. Would have probably died without it. I can’t find one so I suppose no sense trying such foolishness lol. What’s your experience with T3 bosses?

Man, they really need to bring back the droprate to what it was…

Also I assume you’re playing on console, cause on PC you really should hotkey those scrolls to a direct button. I like f5 the most - it stands out on the keyboard for easy area-smashing in a panic (lol) but is far enough away that you won’t hit it accidentally. Of course you first need to find at least 1 scroll…

Yeah, think I’ve been lucky with getting scrolls? In total, I’ve found around 7 scrolls? But, weirdly enough, I’ve found one scroll per character I’ve lvled up. Its just an observation. Like this rogue character, which I’ve played roughly 60+ hrs on it alone, only found 1 scroll. Yet, cos I’ve levelled multiple other characters, they’d each end up dropping one scroll along the way. But they all dropped from overworld activities - at least in my case.

So against T3 bosses - it’s a lot easier I guess. even without mythics, the boss fights are quite fast. I think for rogue, it’s probably better to use like a rapid fire or TB build specifically to take down bosses in t4. Guess in S7, it’ll be a lot easier to swap builds - that’d be a good change.

And yes, I’m on console, so had to activate the scroll using the wheel. On the console forums page, some of us have tried requesting for a button binding option for controllers - but nothing yet. so… ok…

if you are a spiritborn, varshan would die as soon as he pops out.

get rid of tyraels and get a shroud.

his ground pattern shadow attack can be deadly, but again as a spiritborn he always dies in less than 2 seconds.

i’ve ran 250 t4 varshans this morning, no issues other than me falling asleep after a while. i carried a group of 4 solo as a spiritborn.
