The pit is boring, its repetitive, and it’s an unnecessary struggle… Why not put glyph altars back in the dungeons, make the game more flexible and accessible to everyone. I way preferred the days when the glyphs where in the dungeons. Hate the pit! Always a boring repetitive grind.
Agree, but not make any dungeon or tide like the pit.
For instance:
- Pit: 4 chances (without death) to level glyphs, with chances to level 2 our more points at a time (as it is)
- Dungeons, Tides: 1 chance (without death) to level, a single point
- Hoard: 2 chances (without death) to level, with chances to level 1 or 2 point, not more
Just make glyphs you socket, lvl automatically as you kill stuff all around the game. You won’t have control over how fast you lvl them but you also won’t be forced behind a specific activity.
That still forces you to run certain content to get a level. Would much prefer that glyphs gain exp for everything you do. Whispers, nightmare dungeons, helltide or whatever endgame activity you like. Just give them XP bars to fill and only get xp if the glyph is equipped into your paragon board.
That is actually a great idea. Not equipped, not gaining exp.
I’m struggling to understand why it’s not done this way. IIRC, glyphs in EQ2 leveled individually from any XP you got, regardless of the source. To me, not doing that is a gigantic WTAF.
They want us to “friction” with the game, so there will never be no automation tasks…
Friction is good. Being forced to do endless pits to lvl up glyphs is straight up moronic.
You level what you want.
I’m at the point i do pits when i wnat to. And 100 is my max…
Glyphs at 68, so no rush.
Every repetitive task is moronic, so there’s why you have a lot of tasks in D4 besides pits.
Tides, Hoards, Undercity, Dungeons…
If you change tasks from times to times, it won’t be moronic…
Anything really, besides the pit, it’s the worst mechanics of the game and I think it’s promoting unhealthy gameplay style. Yes I get it, some like it hardcore. Thats fine, leave it to them. But what about the casual players who log in for 2 or 1 hour a day to play. It’s been two seasons of glyphs in the pit and the grind is really exhausting. Same bosses, same mechanics on repeat… Just make it more dynamic and accessible to everyone. It’s going to suck that Blizz made the pit even harder now, making it near impossible for casual players to level their glyphs. I guess only the elite gamers/streamers who play 8 to 10 hours a day will be the only ones able to achieve this. I want to play to have fun, the pit feels like a task… Are we playing a taskmaster game now? Meh
At least with obducite there are options other than the FX vomit otherwise known as Infernal Horde. While Horde does give the optimum return on my time, I am not forced into that single activity. Pit on the other hand, just not for me. I hate it with a passion. Its appeal is for a specific group.
Giving options beyond Pit is desperately needed. I would much prefer just having XP level the glyphs, short of that have the 2nd option of just doing NMDs with the end being the glyph level as it was before. Pit should be left for one purpose only, what it is fit best for is some sort of leaderboard, the competition or race which not every player has interest in.
I agree man. We were actually discussing on our discord group, whether we should just level them up to 100 this season and roll with our eternal characters and skip season 8 and 9 until Blizzard eventually wakes up and smells the coffee, allot of people are divided and have different opinions on the pit and not really excited about levelling glyphs through the pit every season.
One of my biggest problems with the pit:
“Do you want to level your glyphs but do nothing else?”
When the server comes back up, I’ll do my first ever Pit run, so I can unlock T1. I’ve no interest in grinding Pits. IMO the decision to make Pits the only place that levels your glyphs is Numpty Land, & I’m quite surprised it hasn’t been changed yet.
I know brains mix up and replace old memories, but I feel like I have to remind everyone that they removed glyphs from the dungeons because we were all sick of repeating them endlessly: same maps, similar patterns, and then the objectives. We were literally just doing that over and over
Now, the pits feel the same, except that if you don’t push a little, the glyphs won’t level up.
In my humble opinion, the solution would just be to give the glyphs other locations.
For me, the answer would’ve been to reintroduce Vaults, since they didn’t have objectives and also gave useful items and materials. I loved them.
But honestly, I’d be happy with anything that adds variety. Just don’t repeat the same mistake made with Obducites, where the amount/quality of time spent varies too much, and people end up doing basically the same thing all the time anyway.
True, I mean. I get it, it’s hard for a big game to keep it’s playerbase happy. But with the next season, pits being made extra stronger… I don’t think players should be funneled into the pits… I think it’s going to backfire and Blizzard will lose allot of players. They need to make it more dynamic, levelling glyphs can be done through various activities. Then it’s up to the player to choose which content they prefer to level up glyphs, just like with Obducite. I just can’t stomach the idea of starting another season and facing the pit again… It’s not the endgame. It’s just repetition.
To be fair, everything feels repetitive depending on how many times we’re forced to repeat content, and of course, our own tolerance level.
I get their reasoning though. The pit is like a test to see how strong you are, and its purpose is to level up the glyphs only if you can handle a higher pace of the game. In their minds, if you can’t, you should take a step back, gear up better, and try again.
I’m not sure how the next season will go, we’ll find out soon enough from the PTR feedback, but regardless, my only complaint is that there’s just one source right now. If they applied the same methodology to other activities, I’d be fine with it. Just like if I could level up in the open world the same way I do in the pit, you can bet I’d prefer riding around to regain some of my sanity when needed, just to take a break from other tasks.
I suggested that in a PTR thread a while ago and got set on fire for it, are people finally pulling their heads out of the sand?
The real power is getting your glyphs to 46 and enabling their multipliers. It seems the devs want to make this harder next season. It also means less players capping those glyphs out as well because the damage output from 46 to 90 which is the highest I have gone is significant.
In the end the goal is really to slow us all down. It’s warranted but I fear the nerf hammer will be too harsh as it always is, which will cause more buffs that go too far the other way once those skills become OP due to a bugged interaction which will persist until the end of the season and the cycle will continue.
Seven seasons of this exact same thing. Expect anything different?
Yeah, it’s been suggested a thousand times since then. Nothing changed and probably never will because; Blizzard.
