it’s an odd thing with the gem drops. you will see them drop iirc(at like llvl 90ish+ give or take) at like 40 pieces and then the game decides oh, wait…wait wait wait, this guy is ready for the 200+ piece per stack gem drops. you can watch it happen in real time if you pay attention.
