I was having a blast playing season 4, got a necro to 100 went as far as I could take it reasonably. Moved to barbarian and had a blast, then I realized the roadblock was at the pit. I can’t beat level 61 bosses so it’s impossible to upgrade gear so you can just delete the character. This is a highly annoying process I’m not willing to do again.
Your entire characters progression is linked to crafting mats needed from 61+ pit. If you can’t beat that boss, you have no way to get to that level. It’s honestly an odd mechanic, you need that boss killed to upgrade but if you can’t beat that boss, you have no way to get past it. I can run the pit easily until the boss, zero chance of death but I get to the boss and it’s over one shots are the problem for me.
I look and think okay what can I do to get past this? The answer is nothing. Start over. That’s a fairly flawed process. That you have one path to success and if you get stuck you are done is kind of odd to me and after hitting this spot twice its basically game breaking knowing I’m going to waste my time if I try to make a different class.
Sure, I could farm gear all over, hoping I get a +0.5% better temper and maybe that pushes me over what I need, but steamrolling content for days in hopes the RNG Gods smile on me perfectly just doesn’t seem like fun when I’ve already done that multiple times to get the really good rolls I have on my gear.
Season 4 was my favorite season by far in D4. That said, the fact the path to success is so linear and so pinpoint that basically nothing else in the game matter except the pit because of the mats is really odd to me. So many things to do up to that point, and in the end it’s pit or bust. The devs did a lot of good this season, hats off to them for seeing the flaws they started D4 with and I hope the next season is even better. That said, when the entire middle to end game is only reliant on one thing and one way to get that it’s very pigeonholed and that seems counter to what the rest of the game is.
