Judging by comments I am seeing in various foruns and chat, there are a LOT of people not purchasing the expansion because of this feature. Just go to any conversation on poe2 and most of the comments are " glad I can solo unlike D4" and “not interested in the quasi mmo that is D4.” They arent buying because ofthe fact that forced coop dungeon exists. I said this would happen a year ago when that “leak” happened. Many like me play arpgs BECAUSE we can progress solo and arent forced to group with others. Multiplayer should always be an option for all content. The moment you tell players that they HAVE to group up to complete content, many lose interest. Particularly if they play arpgs to get away from mmos and raids. Make it soloable and no one has an issue.
Ive also said this many times, the only killer to a Blizzard game is Blizzard itself. Right now they are giving a free lift to their competitors parking lot.
If now I would be in their shoes, after what’s happening with Ubisoft and other games, and after the great exodus of players from seasons 1-2, I will try very hard to please my clients.
I’ve noticed that, although they made very good changes in season 4/5 (for me especially 4), in the last 2 PTRs, they seem to try going backwards to tediousness by lowering the dropping rate of gear and trying to artificially inflate the play time.
But… I am optimistic, cause, us players and streamers too, gave them feedback and they seemed to make last minute changes, before the start of the season, and the game still is good. As I said, in this video games climate, any devs can’t afford to annoy their playerbase (too much) if at all. Maybe they’ll try for another few season to make a MMO from D4, but I really don’t think they would succeed.
Man you kids remind me of the woman who meets a guy in a bar and nags him for drinking their entire life after they get married.
Crying about multiplayer content in a multiplayer game is the same exact thing.
except it isn’t meeting a woman in a bar, and then get nagged about it later in a life that was optional.
maybe someone could do a better analogy but with food?
i said how dumb that take was and you went and say it anyway. How im a bad comsumer for wanting something that will benefit most people? you should go read the theory of stupidity of Cipolla.
Just a quick quote if you are too lazy to go and search for it " Cipolla calls it the golden law of stupidity . A stupid person, according to the economist, is a person who causes problems for others without any clear benefit for himself."
As soon as i heard about the coop rumours, i decided to put on hold my intention to buy the expansion, untill we had more information
And once we got confirmation of it, i decided not to buy iut, exclusively on the expansion having forced coop content. For that reason only, they lost several sales
You have all the information to make an informed decision about your purchase. If playing multiplayer in an online live service with 1 coop dungeon triggers you then you shouldnt make the purchase.
Mind you they are adding tools for those without friends that can participate if they choose to as its a choice.
If you are triggered yet you still buy it that makes you a bad consumer. It would be like me buying BG3 when I dont like turnbased games, it would have been a poor purchase for me.
Its not like you purchased something and then it was a surprise. I encourage more game modes regardless if they are single, coop or open world play.
I’m a diablo superfan, since the original in the 90s (I’m old) - when VoH was announced I was eagerly about to pre-purchase it, but, just by chance, happened to read ‘Co-op endgame activity’ so held off until we had more details.
I finished S5 several weeks ago and havent paid much attention to anything D4 related since, only checking the forums every couple of weeks or so to see if Blizzard walked back on the co-op only aspect so I could confidently make my xpac purchase.
Clearly, they have not, so it appears my D4 experience is now over. That is a bit sad, as I had been really enjoying it - the music, more than anything else in the game, kept me coming back… D4 has some of the best music they have ever made - but it was a really fun 16 months, and I thank Blizzard for that time.
It’s so crazy that Blizzard keeps making WoW more solo friendly, including a completely solo progression tree - which I have been really enjoying - but they decide to bring mandatory group content into Diablo…
I mean, in the end, I only have so many hours in the day, so if Blizzard would rather me spend my time doing the solo content in WoW than playing D4, I guess that is fine with me. It’s a weird position to take though, because they made more money off of me in D4 with the Battlepass and the MTX - but if getting less money from me is what makes them happy, who am I to judge?
A small chance is not the same as a guaranteed drop but beyond that it is about the change, content that is only available in a group. Will solo players group to do it i would say 9 out 10 but do not kid yourself it is forced if you want to see this content, no other content in game excludes either the solo player or group player.
This is what citadel should have been. A solo only experience that you climb and conquer but this doesnt sell cosmetics. This is what they are doing. The ship is undergoing a 180 turn and we are at the start.
As soon as this releases and its seen new player replacement are more than ppl leaving then more coop is coming. Coop sells cosmetics to show off to your forced parties. Bliz is rewriting the environment for D4.
Older gamers are out and younger gamers are in.
Solo is out and coop is in.
Good content for all is out and $$$ is in. Eternal is out and season is in.
