[FEEDBACK] Season 3 highlights a bigger problem: a flawed, empty base game. Here are some ideas to help fix that

D2 survives due to one single thing… TRADING …you dont want to farm a specific boss ??..fine…farm something ells…and… TRADE !!!

at this point i’m glad with anything that zooms out :joy:

there’s a spot on the map during helltides (i think somewhere in the middle of the worldmap. can’t recall the name/exact place) where the game zooms out and it just feel soooooo much better to play (to the point i go out of my way to kite monsters there so i can have a fun time and dream)

Agreed! It’s not a very enjoyable item system. It’s one of the biggest flaws in this game.

Even if they move everything to the codex, it’s still a really janky system that basically replicates sets from D2/D3 but with even more steps in between, all while the skill system itself suffers. I hope they don’t just codex the legendary aspects and call it good because it saves inventory space. The system itself is broken. :frowning:

Also, the zoom love is much appreciated. The current zoom extents are way too close!

They are changing this next season.

I love your point 3. This gets totally my vote.

Aspects taking stash space is also going to change.

To me this is the opposite. I can play all builds that I tried from Maxroll very easy just with Kodex aspects put on random gear.

True. Why can’t we fight all bosses from campaign?

Point 9 is also solid and the mentioned time-gating is so apperent, it’s nearly an insult.

In conversation with a friend, he compared legendary aspects to D2 Runewords. I can see that, but for some reason the aspects don’t feel the same to me. I think it’s for a few reasons:

  1. Legendary aspects are way easier to get than high runes.
  2. Codex makes many aspects basically free and swappable like D3 gear. They aren’t like runewords because the best runewords usually happen only once per season, not multiple times.
  3. They come with guaranteed affixed instead of just a power.
  4. The powers the best runewords grant often apply to multiple builds (Enigma), though there are many exceptions to this. Many of the best legendary aspects just modify a single skill.

If they could somehow turn legendary aspects into a runeword-like item modification system, I think I could get behind it. That said, they still need to enhance the skill tree to be more exciting, imo.

I thought about trying out Season 3 after the recent patch so I went to maxroll to read up a bit on Season 3 and then immediately got PTSD remembering how awful my experience with the game has been. I only have a few hours to play a week, so keep this in mind when reading my comments.

Paragon Boards: Tedious. It’s just a math problem to solve. Most people don’t make any meaningful choices because spending your time in a spreadsheet sounds like the antithesis of fun for me and there are guides to do it for you.

Skill Tree: Shallow and restrictive. Again, very few meaningful choices here. Another math problem to solve.

Itemization: Yep, it’s bad. Yet, another math problem to solve with a spreadsheet.

Loadouts: Find a unique or powerful legendary item you want to try that is different from your build? Ok, fine, redo your entire skill tree and paragon board. Want to switch back to your original build? This is probably the biggest turnoff for me as a more casual player, the inability to try out new builds without wasting an enormous amount of time.

I know some people get their kicks from calculating damage numbers in a spreadsheet, but obviously I’m not one of them.

I kind of like Paragon Boards as they provide that sense of strategy and investment that leads to a feeling of character ownership. That said, respec’ing and the fact that they need external calculators to be used most efficiently are definitely annoying.

There needs to be a respec mode for them (maybe there already is with the latest patches; haven’t checked recently) and presets so you don’t have to spend an hour respec’ing.

BUMP! Great feedback

There is a respec mode in S3

Good to know! At least that makes it easier to do internal paragon board planning.

There is always some of you that would enjoy a steaming pile of crap shoved down your throat. And rejoice in it.

I truly dont get it.

Becoz, i completely understand the game with its Uniques, Aspects, Imprinting, paragons, Grinding activities, defeating Uber Bosses, NM dungeons, Vault, trying different builds, etc. I appreciate the job they made. I like D2 and D3 during their time beating their hardest difficulty. But they are all obsolete to the features of D4.

I comprehend deep parts of the game leading me to defeat NM100 and AoZ with different non-meta builds although i cant beat Uber Lilith becoz i dont have enough time to grind for it. Overall, i like it.

I understand. This game is huge. If you are shallow, you would have shallow experience. And instead, complain… asking for something non-existing to the game. Im not like you who feel so entitled.

Dont ever fall into a puddle. You may drown.

Drown? I am having a blast.

I pity those who don’t.

If you ever find out about a game called Last Epoch or PoE, your mind will explode if you think this game is deep.

I dont play free games. If those games are good, they would compete their box price with D4. They dont. It just it tells me that they are not confident with their product.

They pretend that there are massive gamers in there. Actually, it’s filled with kids with no access to mommy’s wallet or garage dwellers, with whales supporting the life of their game.

And besides, look at you. Why are you here, not on those free games? Therr must be something on D4.

Ahh there it is. The troll. Thank you for letting me know. I didn’t think someone could be that dense.

Been saying the core game sucks and seasonal model sucks since day1.
This design is for revenue and psychological fomo so don’t ever expect it to be fixed.

They didn’t accidentally forget to make a good core game and rely on seasons to fix it - it was the plan from the start,
Live service is trash. Seasonal games are trash.

Appreciate all the free bumps, my man.

The game is desperately in need of a tier 5 and even 6. The open world becomes weak after a while. You just crush everything instantly.
