Original post was incorrect as I was being an idiot and forgot one of my pieces of gear that had Aspect of the Stampede on it also had the malignant heart that gave +3 to wolves on it.
Anyway, aside from that the damage output from companions is still way off what it should be, my wolves have a passive tooltip of 6.3k and I have a total of 251%[x] companion damage buffs but instead of biting for 22k my wolves bite for 9-11k.
Ravens are also way off, it is believed the reason for this is due to a bug in the damage calculations for companions as Fenris has posted below.
buffs for companions shouldn’t be enhancing the tooltip. They work as a separate multiplier. I tested both the tooltip and the wolf passive/active damage in fighting and stampede and alpha both seem to be working correctly.
Previously they were being reflected on the tooltip, which I believe is why they weren’t working correctly. They were working, but they were being multiplied by the passive skill multiplier, which shouldn’t happen for multipliers.
Assuming you mean the passive damage isn’t hitting for as hard as they should be, it’s because the skill stat (willpower) and the +damage bucket are both multiplied by the passive damage multiplier in determining the actual damage (this isn’t true of other forms of damage). Unfortunately the tooltip doesn’t reflect this, which is a bug (or the damage is a bug - they won’t tell us).

That’s interesting. I haven’t seen, or heard of, wolves getting anywhere close to 50% passive damage compared to the tooltip. Mind sharing your wolf skill damage %, willpower, +damage (not crit, vuln or companion) and +companion damage?
I haven’t fully tested companion passive damage since 1.1.1 dropped and I’m curious to see if they may have tweaked the formula. 45-50% is actually REALLY good.
Wolves passive is at (6.3k)40% with 11 points in it.
I have 451 Willpower.
I have +191% companion skill damage
not sure exactly what +damage would work out at but my “all damage” stat on character sheet is 65%
Instinct tells me that a working first bucket along with the 2nd and 3rd only getting 40% of what they should gives me the numbers im getting, staying true to your thought about the multiplier being used multiple times.
That make sense. Your 451 willpower should equate to [x]45.1 and if your all damage is your only plus damage that affects the wolves (no +close damage, +physical damage, etc.) then that should be only a [x]65 multiplier.
That equates to 72%, but I’m guessing you have additional damage modifiers which affect your +damage (damage while healthy, physical damage, etc.). It’s also possible there are other screwy things going on (+physical damage boosts tooltip damage, but seems a bit odd on Raven’s Active attack, for instance).
Shows that with the new patch, and a ton of extra skill ranks, you can start to see closer numbers. Nice work.
