Drastic Frame Rate Reduction

I was playing pre-patch 200-230fps now I’m 90-130. No setting effect any changes (low, med, high) I’ve seen others report similar on other platforms.

(I will say selecting low fx seems to improve playablity for me)

I have horrible frame stuttering now after the patch.

Used to be rock steady at 144 with occasional drops due to rubberbanding and such, now it;s constantly stuttering making the game very hard to play.

Same!

With all due respect, dear developers:

In my case it is even more ridiculous, because I use { for a very long time } GeForce Now Ultimate { highest tier } to play.

It’s a cloud gaming Nvidia service where I play on RTX 4080 rig.

I have many-many hundreds of fps in all games i enjoy, including Cyberpunk2077.

There was no issue before yesterdays patch with Diablo 4 as well - it had some enormous amounts of FPS, many hundreds of fps, I do not even remember how much precisely, because I limited them before to 120 - but now, with Your patch, You magically broke it so much, that I got 39 fps in Kyovashad : D

Something is hilariously wrong and broken with current patch.

Please look up into it.

My game is down from many, many hundreds of fps to less than 50 in a city : D

…best regards!

it might be they increased quality on each setting, because they had problems with invisible boss mechanics when quality was set to low

Can confirm.

RTX 4070 + i5 12400F

Before patch, I was getting ~125 FPS uncapped - stable
Now its jumping wildly between 65 - 110.

Tested extensively in starting location.

Consistently 2-3 frames below whatever FPS limit I set, either ingame or using NVCP.

Very weird rendering. I’m just a new player installed this game a couple days ago :joy:

…that’s probably even adding to Your annoyance, but:

/ I was playing D4 often since it was added to GeForce Now.

…aand - this is first time this problem exists.

Bad luck for all of us.

What I am trying to say - it’s not “always” or “often” broken, so don’t give up on it yet, it’s very charming, pleasant game… ; )

For sure man thank you for the encouraging words.

I am very sensitive to performance hitches in PC games and go through great lengths to tweak and calibrate the performance of every game to have a perfect high refresh rate experience.

I’d just set up everything and started a playthrough when the patch dropped haha

BUT I know that:

  • Blizzard has a good track record of releasing and maintaining extremely performant games.
  • They are working on frame generation and might be the reason they’ve been tampering with rendering. This seems to affect everyone on NVidia only (so far, judging by the reports on this forum).

Which leads me to believe this is a temporary issue which will be resolved sooner rather than later.

Even by my (probably high) standards the game is far from what I’d consider ‘unplayable’, so as a long time ARPG fan I’m not going to be dissuaded so easily

Good day to you sir.

Oh, absolutely - couldn’t agree more.

I am fossile that was Blizzard fanboy since Starcraft 1.

My first ‘gaming platform’ was Atari ST, I may be last person alive who know what it is { data stored on cassete tapes }.

Imagine playing Starcraft 1 / Quake 1-2-3 multiplayer / UMK3 - that sort of ‘high precision demanding games’ etc with any sort of hickups.

Indeed, I immediately felt that something is not right - that’s why I checked with frame-counter, and - here it was.

But yes, I am pretty sure than they’ll fix it.

That’s one of many reasons I love WoW for example - it does not even take 15 percent of available resources most of the time : )

It’ll get better for sure.

Same here. Playing on GeForce Now Ultimate tier and the frames all over the place! No telling when this will get fixed…

PSA: DLSS3 Frame Gen dropped today.

If you have a 40 series card you might have some luck trying to brute force your way into getting more consistent framerate.

On my 12400F / 4070 rig, FPS was fluctuating between 60-95 (in-game cap of 100) after 1.4.2.
After 1.4.2a, I can switch on Frame Gen to stay at 130-138 FPS now.

This is on a 144 Hz monitor, which Low Latency Mode caps at 138 FPS.

The performance degradation we see after 1.4.2 still remains unresolved though.

I’ll give that a try. It’s crazy how well Diablo 4 ran until that recent patch. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a game have frame rate dips and spikes that are so far apart… It would hit around 135 to 140 and then drop to the 50’s and 40’s. Hopefully they are getting enough feedback to be aware of the issue and at least working on a fix.
