Do hordes instead, you’ll get way more stones. Pit drop rate for stones isn’t very good, even at level 100. I’ve done like 30 tier 7 or 8 hordes runs and I have over 150 stones from them. I found 9 stones during a single tier 8 run. I’ve found up to 5 stones during a single tier 7 run. Use the material chest at the end repeatedly after you defeat the council. You also get wayyyy more neathiron from high tier hordes runs, I have like 31k neathiron right now. You get that from the materials chest as well.
