Does this game feel worth $70

Felt like a $40 game in 2010 or a free to play game in 2023.

Ill still get my moneys worth, but was not pumped to keep playing. Im not itching for June 6th. I am now more interested in Last Epoch and POE2.

I think blizzard is sort of over being a great developer. Watching Diablo make ARPGs what they are, then fall off and just hand that crown over to GGG was bad enough during D3. To see them just give up on D4 and make no attempt to compete is sort of depressing.

I feel D4 strong points are going to be the story and the ambience.

The only thing that I think will turn this from a 5/10 ARPG is a fantastic endgame loop. The fact that endgame has been more or less hidden is a really concerning thing.

Everything felt super stale in the beta.

What if you waited and paid 40$ Would you say you get more for your money at 40$ than at 70$?

Definitely looking forward to 1.0 release of Last Epoch and seeing where that game goes.

As much as I appreciate what PoE brings to the table, it does feel a lot more overwhelming and consuming but interested in where it goes too.

You can spent more on a simple dinner that lasts 90 mins but that is comparing apples and oranges imho… you should be comparing it to other games tbh

1 - will i still buy this game
Lets get it out of the wat first… probably yes but decided to stick to base version tbh

2-how much would you pay if this exact same game was on sale with a different title from a different studio

İf this game didnt have diablo and blizzard ip on it i really doubt people (including me) would pay this price esp after playing the demo (the beta was somewhat like a demo)

$70 is saying: We are better than all those other games out there for less and deserve the extra money, and were going to do MTX and premium battle passes.

Other than the cutscenes/ambience this isnt anything special beyond what a free ARPG would do. POE1 does this far better for free. Theyve now had two games they could have tried to compete with POE and havent attempted at all.

Impossible to answer this because noone played the endgame, so based on the beta you cannot provide a constructive feedback on this.

Yeah to keep the costs down with inflation

They just copy pasted a lot stuff :))

Look at the dungeons with very similar layouts and literally a few end bosses recycling
Or the exorcism side quests

I believe the devs for POE2 stated they have a strong urge to remove some complexity and stream line the game a bit more. Seems they are taking some ques from other ARPGs. The barrier to entry for POE is super intimidating. And yeah I’m waiting on last epoch for full release but dang it looks fun so far.

Yeah I feel like the box price is reflected in the cutscenes, not the actual gameplay.

Keep in mind this isnt just $70, its that plus MTX, plus frequent premium battle passes, and likely $70 expansions.

Meanwhile not much I feel has really evolved with the game, and it certainly doesnt try to compete with its competitor POE, thats free to play and the MTX isnt money grubby.

That’s a really good point to think about. How much interest would there be in this game if it didn’t have the Diablo or Blizzard name on it compared to other ARPG’S on the market right now?

it´s Diablo (mostly thanks to 2 LoD) so it was pretty much shut up and take my money still after diablo 3… which… d3 was crap at launch(and still is visually) but came a long way after initial dormancy…
anyway but after this campaign turns out to be the cult´s full checklist then i will say goodbye to the ip at least unless there´s a team-switch of devs.

Hard to say if its worth it. Ive experienced so many games over my career so I’m not wowed by much these days but I generally place value into two facets, 1 how much fun I have playing it and 2 how long that fun continues for.

With that said, some of the recent games that have kept my attention the longest, and have good memories playing with friends have been Terraria, Valheim, POE, V Rising, and Lost Ark (yes yes that name gets tossed around here a lot lately but it was fun at first). Most of these titles I have about 200-300 hours of solid, enjoyable gameplay in, but also all of these titles are either free or like $20.

I havent had a $70 game wow me yet and so far, what Ive seen in the beta, theres much to be desired

I’ve tried PoE a few times and for me the huge tree was the biggest downside. It’s cool that it’s huge, it’s not cool that 90% of the nodes are generic and boring. Not that it did everything wrong skill-wise - combining skills is a pretty cool concept - but man I just didn’t even want to look at that tree. And the worst thing is that even if you do theorycraft or just follow some good builds, it still wasn’t satisfying to upgrade all those nodes.

If you adjust for inflation it’s about 2-4 more than D2 really

I bought the Ultimate.

If they fix the multiplayer lag, or even better allow me to DISABLE it… Then yes its worth it.

If the multiplayer lags ends up with d3 area damage, which Im worried that it will… Then no.

Edit: (Oops, hit wrong reply, meant forOP)

Yes and no.

Yes, because I’ll probably get at least 100 hours in this game which will be a very decent investment.

No, because I can get a few AAA games for $70 total during steam/epic/gog sales. I think the God of War, Witcher 3 GOTY and Cyberpunk all cost me under $70 in total.

But I’m expecting the price to drop to $55-60 after the launch.

$70 is relative. Better question is "Is the game worth purchasing?"

I’m mixed at this point. I probably won’t be playing it much. And I won’t be playing and being immersed in it like I was with D1, D2, D3. Just feels way too much like playing WoW. Even rewards feel like WoW rewards.

If I want to play WoW, I play WoW. Why do I need a second skin for it?

With POE being free maybe £35-40 if I’m expected to pay for other crap to keep the development going as a live service what ever the hell that is supposed to mean

Do miss the good old days of buy a game they make hundreds of millions that funded patch’s and upgrades and the money for the development of an expansion which they then sold for hundreds of millions again so simple

They aren’t trying to compete with PoE… If they were trying to make a game as excel spreadsheet as PoE I wouldn’t play it, nor would my gf, nor would most of my friends.

If you like PoE. Play PoE. These are different games.

Of course, at $40 it’s a better deal, but I don’t want to wait for a sale. I want to play on release. I’ll be happy either way.

Not for me OP, this game is not worth the asking price for what I saw during the beta. Which is only a part of the game. I will decide after the full release and all the reviews are in
