Does anyone else find grinding The Pit to get mats...boring?

Ya its boring for sure, last bit of mastercrafting is a pain. Just finishing up my Hota/Cota then done. Finally got perma up time on ancients.

Tested a lot of Barb builds this season, its all that kept me going tbh.
Next season will be short and sweet, season Journey then done.

Yes, it is boring. Finished season pass in 2 weeks and been playing the masterworking roulette ever since.

Played it even less after the patch notes dropped (I only play sorc).

It’s so boring to me just conceptually that I haven’t even tried it yet. I still haven’t got all my rep and I’m not 100, but I one-shot every single thing out in the world, so pit and masterworking is really looking like an unappealing treadmill.

Oh and I haven’t got all the lilith statues either, mostly because I hate having to close my game window, look at map, then open game window and try to remember what the map said. It’s doable but holy crap is it ever tedious, I’ll never understand why they don’t allow simple addons that do things like that entirely in the game.

Haven’t done nightmare dungeons either, and I’m guessing if you go straight for the pit they all become trivial? People act like d3 greater rifts were boring but no better or worse than what we have now.

But, yeah, it’s tedious.

That’s where the season ended for me. I just don’t find pit grinding for masterworking to be a fun end game loop. Hats off to those that like it,but just not for me.

Game ended for me when i got 4 non meta barb builds to pit 100, over that they are just sponges. I can see myself masterworking gear 12/12.

Broken bash builds all they have, pit is boring but bash is super boring lol
.

I want my army of pit Lord’s along with skellies, there’s like 80 of them on screen!!

Yep. I made 7 builds to 12/12 so far and I have called it. Moving to LE now. The season was good and I enjoyed it and if the masterworking mats weren’t such chore to grind I would actually continue testing more builds. However, I am completely burnt out of the pit and I don’t even want to hear about it until next season or probably even until S6.

Lol you must of grouped up, i would’nt have the patience to do 7 toons 12/12.

The devs may not have intended their game to be multitasked, but I usually boot up D4 and then say, “Alexa, play my current audiobook’. Hands are busy, mind is occupied.

I can’t imagine doing pit runs without that audiobook playing.

I think because it’s just exactly the same thing over and over again and you get the small amount of neathiron for each run then you do it a lot more times and it’s repetitive because the runs all feel exactly the same. And 12/12 everything will require a lot of runs.

Blizzard needs to either increase neathiron gained or reduce the amount of masterworking from 12/12 to 8/8 or so but increase the % increases to compensate. 5% increases you see the numbers on everything go up just a smidge and considering how much work you put in to see that smidge it feels underwhelming.

Then you get to a 25% increase and you get excited it could make a good stat go up and it picks your worst stat and you’re let down.

Instead of extending how long Pit runs to 12/12 last they need something after pit as endgame so the pit doesn’t need to be so extended to take so long.

i feel there are a ton of nightmare dungeon ,maps/layouts that never show up in the pit.

Liked GRs more as they have randomized maps and connected different layouts onto each other,

Lemme tell you, they tried so hard to make this game, a great game, that so far, they failed.

It passes the time, but to really enjoy it? Hmm…

1 - Helltides until you want to puke and don’t wanna repeat it for any other seasons.
Your battlepass is done, your season achievement are on it’s way.
2 - You need to lvl your glyph to 15-21 → Nightmare Dungeons until you puke and (see point number 1)
3 - You cannot kill Lilith nor the Tormented boss. Your gear sucks. So you temper (thank you RNG) Then you Masterwork it (Thanks again RNG)
4- You opt for the Pit!! This will be fun… err nope. Once, Twice, but then you realize if you want your gear to get decent, 100s of runs? I wanna puke again…

I liked Diablo 3, until the endgame. They copied D3, so for me, once my season is complete (with the hidden title so I only need to kill Lilith now) Last Epoch new patch, here we go!

*So… while I understand endgame for any game that wants to live “beyond it’s time”, it’s very hard to come up with ideas that’ll retain players.

But I try to view it like: you play until you set what’s for you the end of “the season”. then you are free to stop playing until the next one.

What’s super dumb, is they force you to do lvl 30 pit to get the first max batch of mats, then it’s the other one… until the 3rd ones needed. So if you need to reroll as you want 3 times the same boost on an Item… you need to go back to Pit 30…

Instead, they should just keep the max of the first and second mats, even half of it… while you complete Pit tier 100 for the 3rd mats… so then the amount of time spent is less, we are less burned and then, perhaps, enjoy the game a little more…

Pit lvl 30 gives 39 mats, then Pit 31 gives back the lowest amount of the first mats, plus the 2nd mat… (sorry too tired to remember their obliteron names) Pit 60 something, you then get the lowest of 1st and 2nd mats, plus the last mats required… so the more you level, the more you get from all 3 mats in one go, perhaps with a limit on the first 2 while doing Pit lvl 100+ (sorry if I repeat, Zzz time)

Sigh… I just wonder what they’ll bring to Season 5 lolol

Uh, if that’s your problem you really might wanna go visit the alchemist and check out the Crafting Materials Tab. You can always convert 1 Ingolith to 3 Obducite, 1 Neathiron to 3 Ingolith and so on.

Feeling really sorry for you if going back is what you actually did - am even wondering how many more ppl might be doing that so your suggestion to just hand out the earlier materials additionally is still viable

Yeah, agree.

Other games have encounters you can come across in similar situations where you have the chance at very rare items, etc.

In this game, Nightmares and Pit runs DO get especially boring. I MIGHT run into Butcher or Goblins in Nightmares at least but overall… yeah, boring after a bit. It’s a grind I currently accept but from time to time, I DO wonder why they KEEP things boring.

It’s the repetition that makes the pit boring, I suppose. But we need the mats for the masterwork so :person_shrugging:.

They need to add more reasons to do the pit. More forms of reward. Forms of end game that are above the pit, that give you reasons to get strong via the pit. Other than tormented bosses I can’t think of anything. It would be great to do a few pits then move into something else that benefits from you having spent time in the pit.

12/12 might be too much. Reduce the masterwork levels and increase the stat gains. You gain 5% and each stat goes up just a little crumb. It’s lame.

A few minutes of killing monsters. Some time spent on a boss you hopefully don’t randomly get 1 shot on. The Pit needs a little more to it than that. Considering how many times you have to do it over and over again. Or just make it so we have to do it less.

i Believe Pits will evolve like nmds to give more and more Mats for less time investments, making it the same chore nmds are. Boring content but neccesary to progress.

I dont really like this direction, i want options, not forced content for the mandatory stuff a char has to go thru in their progression.

Its absolutely fine to have mandatory farm stuff if u want to target farm bosses. But why does it have to be for mandatory char progression too.

i think is the matter of currently combining the Pit with:
(1) grinding masterworking mats
(2) testing ground of our build

item (2) leads to bottleneck of item (1) when Pit bosses have too much HP, multiple shadow boss, and 1-shot mechanics.

the design should allow reasonable difficulty to farm mats. and then player masterworking their build with these mats to challenge the harder boss. and not the other way round by asking harder boss to guard those mats inhibiting player to reach.

and after getting overwhelming complaints and grievances , patches came in to lower the Pit boss HP and unstacking shadow bosses. but before this most players has been saturated with the frustration and boredom, the “wow” factor of the Pit is no longer there to arouse interest.

Pit is boring, whats needed is something between the pit and hell tides that can drop gear and some master crafting mats, even if it is a smaller amount.

I can’t see why they can’t find some other way to get Neathiron in some other way, they really should make the open world more relivent.
