Both of these mechanics should allow picking exactly what is wanted with a cost commensurate with the average expected to reach it under the current system.

Then the time is spent gathering mats, ostensibly the “fun” part of the game, and not clicking a button over and over and over again.

I can’t get behind this, it’s just a gimme cause I want it, and doesn’t help the game in any way as far as I’m concerned.

Well that’s what you get for selling a D2 successor, than doing 180 and changing everything into D3 successor and then jumping through loops trying to please everyone.

FFS make a plan and stick to it.
Then I’ll know what I’m buying and might even, you know, make a purchase.

Let me break it down to you a bit better then:

1. I will always get the result I want, it’s already “a gimme.”
2. It just takes time grinding mats and resetting the result.
3. I would rather grind far more mats and just pick my result than spend half hour, hour, two hours, etc. pushing a button at the blacksmith or occultist.

Honestly how can you not get behind that? Do you enjoy pressing a button at the blacksmith or occultist more than actually fighting monsters?

Personally I find running out of mats or not having enough more frustrating than the occasional brick of an item.
