I recently acquired a new graphics card nvidia geforce rtx 3060, I’ve updated my drivers and now Diablo 4 will not launch and says that I do not have an updated windows 10 OS. So I went into compatibility settings and the option to choose windows 10 isn’t even available. So I updated my OS and I’ve updated Battle.net, I’ve updated allowances with my firewall, I’ve repaired Diablo 4 in search for corrupt files, I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled Diablo 4, I’ve enabled that Battle.net and Diablo 4 launch with administrator privileges, I’ve tried repairing my OS, I’ve uninstalled Battle.net and reinstalled the latest windows version of Battle.net. I’ve done these and probably more. Any help would be appreciated. I can’t play Diablo 4.
when you uninstalled battle.net did you delete the battle.net folder located in C:\ProgramData\
Yes I did, to create a fresh installation.
i know you said you checked for compatibility on the game exe properties… but just to make sure you don’t have win 8 compatibility checked right?
Yes, once I saw that Win 10 was not available, I unchecked the box.
what version of windows 10 are you actually on? verified no windows updates pending right?
Windows 10 Home, OS build: 19045.4529, I kept checking to make sure that updates were automatically being installed and up to date. Even preformed it manually. Version : 22H2
did you get it working? i keep searching for fixes
I did not. I assume it must be something related to the new graphics card, though I know that doesn’t make sense. I was playing Diablo 4 with a Nvidia Geforce GTX 660 Ti, but now that I have installed the Nvidia Geforce RTX 3060 and installed the (new drivers), the only game in my collection I can’t play is Diablo 4. I really appreciate your assistance.
i saw a few posts on reddit that referenced the card swap and redoing the drivers causing a windows version error when launching… but that sounds silly. doing ddu on your video drivers would be recommended before installing new drivers…
also, on the topic of the drivers… many people have had issues with newer nvidia drivers (past 3 versions i believe). But, from what I’ve seen these are usually related to crashing and stutters.
A lot will recommend getting the january 2024 release version 551.23

if you want to try DDU before reinstalling / rolling back your drivers:

Ok these are new options for me, I will give this a shot. Thank you.
NP, I’m still looking around and maybe someone else here has some other ideas/options and could assist.
This is a blue post from last year referencing the same version you are running with similar issues.
edit:
make sure the battle.net launcher is also not in compatibility mode which apparently can cause launch issues.
BOTH / ALL battle.net files > disable compatibility modes (make sure settings stay)
If settings don’t stay make sure the folder is not read only.
Ok, I have launched the DDU and uninstalled all related drivers, and installed the driver from January 2024 which was the release version 551.23. Still no luck though, I start Diablo 4, it says playing diablo 4, I get a grey screen and then it goes away, and then Battle.net says that Diablo 4 is no longer playing. I used to get a screen that said the OS was out of date, but now nothing. I’ll have to try again tomorrow. Thanks again!
verify your localprefs.txt file line
DisableChromaEffects “1”
and if you have a 2nd gpu (integrated + nvidia), then change the “Adapter” value
from 0 to 1 or 1 to 0
I think … hope… your OS version error is resolved
Ok, switched the (DisableChromaEffects to “1”, and a big change. The game now launches, and I can choose a character and play. Loading screens are several minutes though and there is an insane amount of lag. This was a big help, I am grateful. I would like to know why this worked and how I can tweak it. What exactly did I do?
wait until you start experiencing the crashes
