Seeing this pop up all over because content creators and people here on the forums are taking what the devs said out of context.
They NEVER said adding raids or group only content was a great idea.
The question was “Can we make a raid with our clan to do the world boss with just our clan rather than a 4 player group and then 8 other randoms” and they said they loved THIS idea.
However, as a side note us OGs are going to be in for some hurt because Blizzard’s biggest game is WoW and D4 is going to have a flood of WoW players who don’t care about what Diablo is or was and will want raids. The topic won’t go away as much as we want it to all we can hope is that Blizz doesn’t want to spit their raid audience and take them away from WoW resulting in lost subs.
Yeah raids are a bad idea. Because that will become the standard, at which point the raiders complain about how easy the world bosses are, at which point Blizzard responds by making them more difficult. At which point pugs can’t do them anymore. And now we are back in the situation with wow where you need a social clique to progress in the game. We already have this with wow, and it’s why I won’t play it.
World bosses are loot pinatas. All of them should be easily done with pugs. The only thing they need are level minimums.
Any difficulty in this game should be a solo experience.
I think there are a few factors involved in this one.

Again, being that this is a Blizzard game the WoW fans are going to flood the game and they will all want raids so it is also going to be a flurry of hope for them.
I’m with you friend and I wish I could say it will be that way forever, but the simple fact is we’re going to probably be outnumbered by the WoW players. I just hope the devs don’t want to take the development in that direction and Blizzard doesn’t force it because they don’t want to complete raids within their own titles.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they had internally tested group only content at some point during development and just cut it. In one article people who worked on the game talked about leadership/direction problems early on and how they frequently changed directions or changed their minds.
They even discussed making a battle royale mode for D4 really early on but decided against it according to one article.
If they insist on having raids, then it should just be novelty. Or eSports purposes. It should not grant gear progression efficiency that one cannot get in solo play.
If they want to have super difficult bosses to test their skills, then fine. They can even have a leaderboard for it on how quickly they can down the boss. But it should not be dropping loot. It should not become the premiere way to gear progress in the game. Because then that becomes the meta and we are back with WoW’s problems.
Because there is no way that raiders will settle for easy world bosses. They will next be demanding that difficult world bosses are created, where everyone needs to be on voice chat, etc…
That will ruin the game if it provides the best meta for gear progression, or an advantage over solo play. If they’re going to do it, make it a novelty.
Yes yes and yes! I actually do think if they do it, it should also be a ravmped version of something already in the game. Even if it just drops the same type of loot I can get solo I don’t want to miss out on a boss they make JUST for raiding.
I could see having especially difficult group content that primarily rewards cosmetics like a mog themed to that raid and a title or whatever. Possibly something like Challenge Mode dungeons in Mists of Pandaria. Loot wise they could just drop the same stuff that drops everywhere else if they dropped equippable gear at all.
Marvel Heroes tried having raids and was also an MMOARPG. I don’t remember them being very popular, I think most people just ignored them. I only went into them one time as I recall and I was solo trying to see what enemies I could mind control with Emma Frost.
actually i believe the question was more along the lines of could we get clan content like being able to make raids to kill world bosses. But yeah.
I dont believe the 2 are mutually exclusive. Almost everyone i know played both games. i myself have played every diablo game … way too much tbh… lol. and wow way too much as well (since launch). I will however say that lost ark… which is basically the combo of the 2 is a phenominal game. HOWEVER… rng upgrade attempts and pay to win ruin it. If there was a game that was Lost ark… but without those… i would probably think that it was one of the most amazing games ever made.
Fine tuning the right approach to multiplayer in Diablo IV has been challenging. Our goal has always been to incorporate elements from shared world games without the game ever feeling like it’s veering into massively multiplayer territory. To be clear, this is a philosophy rather than a tech limitation. We find that the game stops feeling like Diablo and the world feels less dangerous when you see other players too often or in too high numbers.
They could have changed their mind since then but they stated in official release info that it is their philosophy to not make a mmo… but I’m not 100% taking it to the bank, just saying that they said they would not go too far.
