Death Pot Removal (Population Perspective)

Lets look at this perspective, of coz with every decision there will be pros and cons. There will alway be the happy vs salty group. Very seldom 1 decision can make everyone happy.

We would like the game to grow in a positive way, like the Season 4 Loot Reborn is a huge overhaul, im loving it so far (Yes alot of future iterations and changes needed to make D4 even better) but this is a Huge Step towards that (thank you Blizzard).

Lets look at it from below perspectives :

  1. Those that can play an average 6 to 12 hours on a daily basis vs Those that can only play 2-4 hrs average on a daily basis vs those that can only play on the weekend (due to various reasons - work obligation, Family Obligations, etc).

  2. Natty vs Not Natty / Metalheads vs Swifties / Punk&Hardcore vs Softcore / Skaters vs Rollerbladers / Women with makeup vs Natural Beauty / Real life vs Social Media / TheKarens vs RestOfTheWorld

  3. Those that live in the USA-Next to Blizzard Server or HQ with 5-20ms ping vs those that was born in other countries that purchase the game with 100-160ms (still playable but lag spikes usually messes peeps up)

  4. Lets say statistically Diablo 4 purchasers - 50% frm USA the rest of the World is another 50%

  5. Let say Current Hardcore Players is around 3k but due to DeathPot Removal 50% of the current population does not agree and quit the game. (Wont this hurt the current playerbase?, i know im shooting starts on the statistics here, feel free to voice out your opinion)

Anyway these are my Perspectives, perhaps in the future im ok with Death Pot Removal, if below issues are addressed properly :

  1. Looking for Group - workable system
  2. Removal of dumb 1 shot mechanics (FOR example Its been 4 Seasons of Uber Lilith being nasty 1 shot , why?)
  3. Cripple the In game GOLD AND UBER MATS purchases (like it or not in a way we can consider this PAY to WIN element).

I mean Blizzard runs a business, so making a profit always comes first, if population declines (100mil profit becomes 1mil profit, is this what Blizzard wants?) etc.

Anyway its just my 2 cents, feel free to voice our your opinion (hopefully with substance) not simply writing people of with “Eck you, go play Softcore you wuz!”

PS : As appreciation of Season 4 heading towards positive progression, i bought the battle pack this season, Did i quit Hardcore because of DeathPot Removal? NO! Of Coz Not! but im trying to voice out my humble opinion here . (Yes its a small amount from 1 tiny player -but if other peeps thats appreciates spends ingame, every thing counts towards profitability). Please look at multiple perspective and to the Streamers out there, please think on a much broader perspective when making comments).

I’ve played HC since day one. Half my friend list is now playing SC. The other half is re-leveling after their second or third one-shot.

Was a neat experiment, and I’m sure it made for good streamer content, but I want people to play the endgame with.

Good luck with Uber Lilith debuff you so you get one shot still.

Her hp is high that unless your critting in millions it be long fight with ability one shot you.

I’ve always played HC. SC is almost too boring, the fact that you COULD die and lose everything makes it worth being careful.

on sc, there is no reason to be careful… just mash.

but now, with the amount of insta deaths on fully tanked toons… Now im SC and HC, if they dont fix hc. ill probably just quit diablo.

I started HC in S2, and basically same. Half my friends list are now SC due to the changes in S4. I have lost a record number of toons this season and more than the prev seasons combined. The deaths have been on toons with max armor, max res, high HP… doesn’t seem to matter when there seems to be super random 1-shot mechanics happening. Also evade is bugged as heck so even when trying to play smart you evade and then literally can’t move, or you evade INTO A PILLAR and monsters can attack you but you cant attack them, then we have the random rubber banding which also ends up with you RIP. etc

This is NOT fun. They should at least consider what they did in D3 and give each class a cheat death skill that is class specific.

Basically last seasons Sorc fireshield but a version for each class.

My most recent death was to a WB. I was literally fine had it down over 1/2 with a friend and suddenly they died, i tried to run and also died. Last season that same WB i was able to solo at lvl 72 on a MUCH more squishy sorc.

Just managed to reach 93 yesterday. Will be 100 by the week.

Note: I am destined to die in the Pit at some point in time.

Note 2: I had promised myself that I will do HC a good try for at least 3 characters this season. On the 3rd death I will take a call to continue or not. However, SC is super boring. What a stupid place to be lol.

Death Pot Removal will never work because the game will be continuously updated and have bugs that kill your character. Even though they may fix the issues that exist today, you’re only 1 patch away from new content that will f*** you.

I find it really ironic they removed pots same time they added a crapton of vague one-shots in our new content. I also died to one at level99.5 to a random 1shot don’t even know what. Now back to 93…

I don’t mind playing without cheat deaths but the 1shots need to go. They shouldn’t exist in the first place or at least they should be rare and very obviously telegraphed (neither of which is the case right now when often you don’t even know / couldn’t see what killed you).

Maybe make it so that you can never lose more than 99% of your health in a single hit. Something like that. So if you’re full and mess up / game screws you there is still a chance to recover because you won’t instantly vaporize. But I guess that might open up a whole lot of other problems and cheesy builds.

They can just bring back the death potions and make them much more expensive to farm / craft so you only have the cushion when you really need it while pushing unknown territory.

Yeah i mean the death this season comes from the death pit bosses mainly, once you push pit lvl 61 and above , thats when the 1 shot happens mostly. I personally died twice in pit (reg farming pit 47 at one time and instant 1shotted suddenly and latest was in pit 70) regardless of the death pot removal this season, i still play HC but sadly most other peeps that really have limited time they never came back (loss quite a number of active HC players recently).

So just my experience today. Did a HC Dungeon run. My char had maxed defensive stats (armor, resist and so on), equipped a shield instead of 2hand, maxed hp…

I was killing everything 1 shot until one werewolf teleported next to me and 1shot me.

How can “being carefull” help here? This is just bloody plain said terrible gamedesign.

HC became “you will get killed anywhere just because of bad luck and there is nothing you can do against”.

Sorry but i wanted HC in terms of “be stupid - get punished” and not “get punished based on bad luck”.

Deinstalled today until they fixed the gamedesign.

I assume this was in a pit? What level was the pit and how much total damage reduction did you have about? (not talking about res, armor, hp etc).

Pit 70, I have 62k HP with 62k Fortify - wearing a shako - 20% dmg reduc, max darkshroud +4 with shako_- i beleive like 12.9% dmg reduc per dark shroud, armor cap, resist all cap. enemies deal 15% less dmg frm my max debilitating toxin. 27% dmg reduc when i get dot + 12% dmg reduc while cc, not to mention some few dmg reduct frm glyph like 10% dmg reduc frm vul enemies, etc…

Which is actually what you can see everywhere.

Chars with maxed out defence getting 1shotted in areas where they can sleepwalk through until a single monster or “something” kills the char ends the game for them.

I have lost over 8 characters in season 4 HC.
over half my friends from previous HC seasons quit HC. The HC community is dwindling.

4 of my deaths were lvl 80-93 and 2 of them lvl 100. I almost quit the game a few times because of the maddening unexplained deaths where i was killed by “unknown killer” (only one of those was a Pit death) despite having max res, max armor over 25k life (on sorc) and high DR. In the case of one of my 100s, i was mid evade with metamorphosis and despite evading far away from a poison explosion, still died.

The removal of the death pot and fire shield immunity were a mistake. But here we are.

A lot of people are suggesting the death pot be added back but with higher CD or harder to craft. As much as I miss the death pot, i disagree. In D3 the highest CD for cheat death is 2 mins. Death pot was 5 mins, but it was cheesed by ppl figuring out you can log out and log back in to reset the CD on it faster. Death pot even with a longer CD, or harder to make, doesn’t really make you think twice when specing out your character.

A class-based solution similar to some of the options in D3 would make more sense. You end up having to sacrifice damage or speed etc in place of the cheat death option. People who prefer more “true” HC have the choice to simply not spec cheat death, and others can make the choice to sacrifice dmg or other to have cheat death with their class.

  • Druid could be something cool like a bunch of spirit wolves that go running through you to save you when it procs
  • Necro could have skeletons form a protective barrier or a golem turn into a literal meat shield when it procs
  • Barb could become one with the Ancients where the Ancients come to their side and the Barb turns into an Ancient spirit when it procs
  • Rogue could have a decoy summon while they poof away out of harm’s way or simply a big cloud of smoke from a smoke grenade when it procs
  • Sorc has fire shield already but something different would be more interesting. Like all 3 elements channel turning you into an ethereal form that dmg passes through when it procs

Im actually quite ok with Higher Cooldown and harder to craft if they do bring back the death pot or even make it a conditional death pot which you can only use in upcoming RAID content and Rift content (like the current pit) etc… . Im ok if death pot is unusable in any of the World Tiers and NMDs as well.
