D4, the most dramatic decline in player activity of all time?

these types of comments are always ironic. Just like the classic “nobody cares”. no offense just makes me chuckle. I’ve probably done it too.

I’m not “worried” about it but I do find it interesting. Diablo was once my one of my favorite, if not my favorite games at least through 1 and 2 so I am somewhat invested. The game is a success in the sense it sold a lot of copies but…for whatever reason a lot of people don’t have a favorable opinion about it it would seem. I’m curious to see what kind of sales a future title can achieve. I don’t think it’s necessarily Blizzard’s fault this is how it turned out either. In my humble opinion the genera has become a bit stale…not a ton of big innovation. You can disagree but to me playing D2R is just as fun as D4. Couple this with the fact people have huge expectations… disappointment was highly likely unless Blizzard could re-invent the wheel, so to speak. Maybe I’m just speaking for myself though…I’m burnt out isometric ARPGs I think. Maybe PoE2 will change my mind on that but even then I can’t imagine myself playing it for more than a few months…and I’m the type that will play my favorite games for years.

Same here. I am the only one playing. And the whole clan was online before the big nerf pre-season 1. After that, everything went downhill.

-WOW, just spent a while reading your post and then actually waded through all the responses.

-I don’t think YOUR friend list equalizes into any sort of usable metric. I don’t know you and so, I don’t know what sort of people are on your friend list, how you met them, why you are friends with them, etc.

-The couple of friends I started playing the game with are still around. We tend to take the last month of a season off to play other things and then meet back at the start of the season. Should I also make all kinds of generalizations and over-assumptions based on my own anecdotal evidence?

-In EVERY single game I have ever played beyond the 90s: I encounter constant apocalypse style: “THIS GAME IS DEAD” individuals.

-I guess I’m old school. Instead of having an existential crisis based on anecdotal evidence: I play a game I enjoy, I stop playing a game I don’t enjoy. This has worked for me for 30 years.

We’re all very special.

I remember playing quite a bit of FPS stuff back in the early 1990’s on lan. Muds and Mushes were apparent in 1992 with T1 connections to the backbone across the EDU network.

I used to run BBSs in the 1980’s with 150 baud to 2400 baud modems. Hayes? USR robotics anyone?

I had some games on WWIV and telegard BBS’s there were reset everyone month. Tradewars and Foodfight?

In the survey I said I am exited about the game and that I will continue to play … but it’s gotten so frustrating to play the game. Not sure anymore if I want to get frustrated on regular basis. Why would one want that?

and yet you are here. doesnt poe have its own forums i wonder?

i mean dont get me wrong, im glad you enjoy it. we all should spend our time on stuff we enjoy.

Idk, i’d probably go ask New World about their decline. Then have the audacity to include mounts, 5 new levels, Gear score 700, 1 weapon, 1 new zone for 29.99. Guess the previous updates of new weapons and gearscore + zone of sands was fine. Must be running out of money

You should probably head over and play POE then.

I mean, no one is forcing you to play D4. You can pretty much play whatever your parents buy you.

PoE1 certainly does, currently. It’s also old.

I actually think D4 does a great job of appealing to a huge audience (including casuals) through their marketing, but does a horrid job of giving both crowds things to do in the long term.

Depending on how PoE2 ends up playing, it might have a much better retention for casuals and hardcores alike. If that’s the case, their slower, more methodical gaining of casuals will have a much better yield overall.

I honestly don’t know if that’ll be the case. Diablo keeps leaving the market wide open by failing to deliver. Even something as simple as WASD is too much for them, lol, and PoE2 is literally including everything D4 lacks.

The other advantage PoE2 has is all the streamers jumping on the fanboy bandwagon. The latest gameplay preview that Asmongold put out has over a million views already, and people like him command a massive audience. His reactions to the great things he’s watching are palpable.

These streamers hopped on D4, thinking it’d provide what was promised or implied. They still have the viewer-base, and all these viewers are looking for a game to fill that void. Right now, it genuinely looks like PoE2 will do that, and they’re all seeing that.

It’s a symbiotic relationship between the devs, streamers, and viewers/players.

You guys are misconstruing why people are talking about PoE. It isn’t because they’d rather play that game, it’s because they want D4 to beat PoE, but that isn’t reasonable when it has 1/100th the features as PoE2 and every streamer with a D4 viewer base is on the PoE2 bandwagon.

We simply want D4 to be a great game.

I feel this is coming to a player who has no access to awesome high level D4 toys gear that is destroying AoZ. You’ve never felt its awesome gameplay. All you have is whining. ROFL. Dying over and over is boring. No wonder you never appreciate D4. IF I were you, go back to PoE.

If it has any grind to it whatsoever it will not capure the casual players. Look at the D4 fourms any type of content in D4 that requires time, grinding or loot hunting. There are flooded with ultra casuals complaining about it.

Tho i think streamers are cancerous everything revolves around clickbait. D4 would still yield more click because casual bob has the time to play D4.

Ill still play PoE2 when it comes out and reserve my opinion until than. D4 thus far has not disappointed my expectations. Main thing is fun which im currently having in D4.

I had my (entirely original, homebrew) build maxed with BiS before I even started farming Duriel. I was also able to solo nm100 at level 82.

I’ve been bored with this game for weeks – long before AoZ.

Now that AoZ is out, I’m still bored as hell, but logged in to see how fun the event would be. Low and behold, I’m missing a couple of objectives in the final portion of the season journey, and there’s no way I can bring myself to do the mindless crap like farming 100 Helltide Chests, lol. Especially for some stupid rune that won’t exist after this season.

The high level toys you’re talking about aren’t even interesting. And honestly, what’s the point? Seasonal power is entirely transient, and there’s nothing sustainable or prolonged to look forward to, like PVP or trading.

Excuses… blah, blah, blah blah. You forgot that D4 is Casual friendly compared to your complex PoE. If you really are an expert, grinding in D4 is cake. Instead, EXCUSES here and there. You are in a wrong game. Go back to PoE.

Yeah, no need to complete Season 2 becoz it would end when Season 3 comes. And there’s no need to complete Season 3 becoz it would end when Season 4 comes. And there’s no need to complete Season 4 becoz it would end when Season 5 comes. Etc…

Why play then? This seasonal thing would never end. Wait til Season 20. ROFL. See you. Go play your PoE. Enough of this nonsense excuses.

I honestly believe that’s because the game is just boring. The farming in this game just isn’t fun or interesting. Mostly because of the bad itemization and lack of a satisfying item hunt, but also because there are no interesting mechanics.

PoE2’s ranged mechanics are so interesting, you could literally just spam different combinations and watch cool things happen.

If the gameplay is fun, grinding doesn’t feel like a grind. This has classically been accomplished with excellent itemization in the best ARPG’s, but honestly, the skill combos and actual combat look incredible in PoE2, which really looks to be the best example of a modern ARPG.

That isn’t the case, anymore. The latest campfire chat has a few thousand views, but the latest gameplay preview for PoE2 has millions.

Yeah, that’s the best way to do it, imo.

That’s awesome! I’m not sure what would be the difference between you and the rest of the players that quit, and I don’t even know if it’s worth trying to decipher, but there’s definitely a difference there. The general perception around D4 is that it sucks. That’s all I ever see on Reddit or any YouTube comment section. But I’m glad you’re enjoying it.

It has nothing to do with difficulty, lol. It’s the fact that the game is so insanely unenjoyable, even spending an hour in a Helltide is torture.

And I never saw a commentary of PoE. WHo cares? Nobody cares that there is Diablo-wannabe game that exist.

Why are you constantly lying? The video showing their latest gameplay preview that circulated a few days ago spawned like 30 individual threads and they were all deleted by mods. That was all we saw for that entire day, lol.

PoE2 videos are getting far more views currently than that of D4.
