It’s because they paid at least 70 bucks for it.
Game might not be dying, but it’s dead to me. I won’t revisit this disappointment for at least another year.

There is no way to estimate the player numbers without any data whatsoever. Blizzard does not provide any access to player numbers.
Yes, you can prove it is wrong. Its source is Steam. Steam doesn’t have Diablo 4. Therefor it can’t possibly be accurate. Blizzard does not release the numbers to the public. Blizzard is the only source that can be accurate. Don’t play dumb.

It isn’t a dying game. What it is, is a game with a severely declining playerbase. Looking at the number we actually see spouted about, they have a 4% retention on their playerbase. This is bad
Sure, from a financial standpoint the game is a success. From a player standpoint, the game is a failure.
Diablo 3 sold 30 million copies. I don’t see Diablo 4 doing that any time soon.
Diablo 3 is also a better game outside of the campaign storyline.
