D2 is better than D4 (The Lunacy)

Alright, I’ll give another example.

Doom. The first person shooting genre seems to be wildly popular today.

People need to stop equating sales numbers with how good a game is. Game sales does ≠= game quality. If it did Dungeon Fighters Online, Candy Crush Saga and Honor and Kings would have all been critically acclaimed and got game of the year.

Graphics are one component to a game and while they help add immersion, they are not the most important aspect. D2 is the superior game mechanically. It’s got the better story and soundtrack. The items are more complex and enjoyable to hunt. Even the spell effects in D2R look better than D4. D2 is just the better game.

Synergies and Runewords ruined D2. Now it’s a joke. D3 was ruined by sets, even less variety in builds than in D2 now. D4 feels like it’s in a much better place, and devs working to stay on the spot(with some success). Idk why they gimped the game by leaving out a bunch of features, but still an okay game, that is going to evolve.

Proof you can’t make everyone happy.

I’m just happy we have D2:R. If I get tired of D4 or PoE, I can play that.

If OP thinks D2 is a better game, then luckily it still exists and you can still play it.

Bought D2 resurrected and it sucks. Some seriously rose tinted glasses on the people that have STILL been playing it all this time. Potion mangement is a pain, buying town portals is annoying, and immunities on higher difficulty levels limits builds horribly and makes SP play a chore . D4 is much better.

If you want to make the argument that D4 is a better game TODAY than D2 is today, sure. I still don’t agree, D2 hasn’t aged perfectly but the sense of progression alone puts it far ahead of D4 imo.

We judge things based on their time though. D2 when it was current absolutely DEMOLISHES D4 by a humorously large margin.

This sums it up perfectly. I do wonder if/when it’ll ever get fixed though.

D2 soundtrack is vastly superior to D4’s. Not even close.

OP is comparing the two games based on “production value”.

Don’t even know what this metric means lol. Its pointless debating here.

D2 is still the goat based on itemisation + trade + pvp leagues.

No. Just no.

20 characters.

It is tho  No need for denying obvious.

Soundtrack ? Are you high ? Bounty ? LMAO
I would take runewords and actually working itemization over paragon any time

i’d say d4 is better than d2 overall because i can only run chaos sanct so many times.

but i feel like d2 was more … memorable, trend breaking, special.

in 100 years i wouldnt be surprised if d2 is still in the global consciousness but d4 isnt. if that makes any sense lol

maybe they’ll come up with stellar seasons/xpacks that change that? idk.

Yes. It’s fun to weed through millions of yellow loot drops looking for a .2% upgrade, knowing that none of it has a chance to make a difference to your gameplay. What an endgame D4 has!

He’s partially right. The ultra power runewords ruined the game. Dueling went from careful and precise movement juking fireballs and whirly barbs to wild teleport spamming zoom fests across the moor. The ultra power uniques were made obsolete by dream, obedience, botd, enigma, hoto, or even a dirt cheap spirit. Smiters with grief and exile? Completely destroyed dueling.

The gameplay in Dynasty Warriors is arguably better than D2 by every imaginable metric, yet every Dynasty Warriors title is forgotten abandoned with each new installment. You can’t just say “the gameplay is better!!” That is a weak, shallow nonargument and frankly a crutch. Diablo 2 is a classic and destroys Diablo 4 in every other metric. Heck, D2R is not only more aesthetic but engaging as well. D4 is utter trash and your post is lunacy friend.

D2 soundtrack was really special, I actually use it for DnD music, but I also have D4 music in there. The D4 stuff is way more complex and beautiful. The music in Kyovashad is just stunning.

D2 crafting REALLY sucked. Yes, you could make unbelievably powerful items after a few thousand rolls using some whack random recipe, but the whole process sucked.

The skill trees aren’t that dissimilar, and left-click to zeal/frenzy/jab/fury/berserk wasn’t exactly engaging melee combat.

As a long time D2 apologist, D4 is the superior game – ESPECIALLY after the ultra power runewords ruined dueling.

Tell me you didn’t play D2 without telling me lol. All serious dueling was done at level cap and a lot of it was even low level. Honestly, it was 100x better when that transition got made because basically all of the uniques became viable. It boggles my mind how people feel the need to slander a decade+ old game just to cope with the crap that is D4. It’s especially unsettling that people literally LARP and act like they know anything about a game while demonstrating they haven’t even played it at a remotely high level.

I would say the endgame(late game) itemization is the only thing better. No one like getting worse items(lower level, lower power) in higher levels, harder content.

Maybe crafting. Was not a fan of the way runewords rurned out but maybe something similar to D3 to help fill in the gaps while leveling or grinding to 100.

The combat fluidity and graphics is greater in D4.
All other aspects D2 wins.
You even get rewarded for doing uber bosses in D2.
