XBox controllers have serious issues with this game and only this game.
I made several bug reports that stated specifically what was happening and how to reproduce the issues during the BETA! Unfortunately, Blizzard only half-azzed fixed the issues and they still happen but not as often. They literally had MONTHS to fix this!!! Whomever is in charge of bug priorities and testing probably should be fired because something this bad should NOT have made it the release version!

All of this wouldn’t be possible if the game supported a Fullscreen mode. Steam wouldn’t be listening then.
Can Blizzard please fix this Bug? How hard can it be?
I can’t play with my XboX Elite Series 2 controller because of the interface bug.
Please Fix… none of the suggested workarounds work for me!!!

Please fix this. One of my three xinput Contollers is working in this game but having sometimes short disconnects. Only in D4! In Beta everything was fine for me.
I also am having an issue, only when using a controller. ONLY when I’m interacting with a merchant that can sell items, every 4-5 seconds it will switch back to the merchants inventory as if it hit the “LB” button. But the ghost hitting isn’t happening anywhere else in the game.

Use a steam account as non steam game. Works perfect. Same thing happened to me for D2R, and used steam again. All good. It seems its either blizzard app software that doesn’t recognised controllers no matter what game. Its the Launcher.

As others have pointed out, the problem is with Steam. All you really have to do to fix this is turn off “Enable Steam Input for Xbox controllers” in Steam Settings – Controllers. You don’t have to shut Steam down.
That didn’t work for me. But it’s been fixed apparently because I no longer have to close steam.
Still doesn’t work for me… why should I even start this game with Steam?
So I tried that version, too but still not working. I can’t use A and X in any Menu options but i can actually play with the controller… but this is really annoying!
I just wanted to post my fix as I have not seen it on here. I’m using the Power A Xbox one “Elite” wired version of their controller (Model- 1510522-02)
Problem: Diablo 4 works fine with KB+M. Upon pushing any button on the controller to get it activated in game, D4 recognizes their is a controller and swaps all of the on-screen button prompts to it’s corresponding Xbox button layout. However, none of the buttons do anything in the game nor the menus. The “Xbox logo” button on the controller does work and pulls up the Xbox overlay. I do not have Steam open nor is it running in the background. Nor is any other game launcher running in the background aside from Battlenet. I have previously used an Xbox 360 controller on this PC before but am currently using an Xbox one controller.
Here’s how I fixed it…
-In Windows Search bar, type Device Manager and then open Device Manager.
-Towards the bottom of the list, you should see, “Xbox 360 Peripherals” (NOT to be confused with “Xbox Peripherals”) Click the drop down arrow next to “Xbox 360 Peripherals”.
-Right click on “Xbox 360 Controller for Windows” and click “Uninstall device” (Only do this if you are no longer using your Xbox 360 controller and only using your Xbox One controller)
-A box will Prompt you to Restart your PC. Click restart now.
After rebooting, launch D4 and when the Blizzard logo appears, try pressing A on the controller. It should skip the intro screen and your controller should be working properly. I have had to do this more than once when the controller came unplugged. I think upon plugging the controller back in, Windows is auto downloading the Xbox 360 drivers which is interfering with the Xbox One drivers and D4 gets confused on which one to use. Hope this helps somebody out there!
