Change My Mind: D4 is a Cozy Game

It is easy.
It requires little knowledge of the internal mechanics.
It is incredibly straight forward.
It has fishing.

It’s the world’s first cozy iARPG.

What internal mechanics?

Run Away??

That is selling cozy games short imo.
The rabbit hole can go deep with them.

Really though, I think there is a big potential market out there for someone making a classic Cozy farming game with a Diablo style combat game, with its itemization and everything, for its mine delving part.
I think the audience overlap here is substantial tbh. Even if they might not all wish to admit it.

Cozy games are like stardew valley. This is not a cozy game.

A cozy game is a type of video game that emphasizes non-violence, relaxation, and comfort.

Non-violence.
Relaxation. Helltide invalidates this one.
Comfort. :x: Going to say no on this too.
Fishing. Yes on this one. :white_check_mark:

1/4 = 25% = fail.

I agree.

It’s also becoming far more focused on crafting and resource management than combat.

Cozy indeed.

Eh. You basically commit genocide in Stardew Valley.
It is not graphical violence, but the violence is definitely there.
Cozy games are still one of the weirdest genre names ever. Not sure the Stardew dev would use it either. Some of them are clearly trying to be relaxing/cute, but at the same time they mostly use timers for everything. It is like you are playing constant Pit levels, trying to catch another fish before the day timer runs out!

Relaxing games, maybe, but Veracity is right about the similarities on that. A-RPGs are some of the most relaxing games around. Easy to play them while doing other things at the same time. Exactly because they are easy/simple.

No action game can be cozy. Its a type mismatch.

IF you are playing D4 while doing other things you are dead unless you are in temis cubing which we are doing 98% of the time so I guess this checks out! :white_check_mark:

Garden Story
Cat Quest 1~3
Crashlands 1~2

Someone said this years ago and they said, “Hold my beer” in response. There’s actually a lot of games that have action combat which are considered cozy, even games like My Time At Portial/Lindrock(?) are considered cozy games and do have real combat elements. Rune Factory as a series is actually bordering on it and predates the term “cozy” but …

My point is, no, it can exist, and already does, and it’s totally a thing.

I liked my cozy boat and stronghold in Lost Ark, which is arguably more iARPG than MMO. It’s such a pity they put ring 0 anticheat (aka a Chinese rootkit) into the game. I miss it.

It’s way too compelling for it to be a cozy game

Cozy?

Before you make this argument, how about you define “cozy”?

My knee-jerk response is, no, there ain’t nothing cozy about this game.

if we get a house and then craft things from the horadric cube and decorate the house, then we got something.

I mean, don’t write it off, getting a little base isn’t truly unforeseen.

thats what im hoping for. gave up on improvements to the base game but im damn sure theyll nail this if they went down this route

Rune Factory exists.

Looked it up.
Very much seem like traditional JRPG itemization and combat more than Diablo style.
But yeah, the gap to A-RPG design would not be huge.

What’s cozy about dodging 1 shots? A lot of the time you can’t even see they are there because the floor is fruit cocktail.

definitely not a cozy game

in fact this whole genre is the antithesis of cozy gaming

crimson desert / fantasy life / rune factory / rdr2 are all cozy games

Only thank to artists, musicians and designers.

Eh, yes and no. You craft your equipment, but it can sometimes gain random affixes and you can add various effects to your gear by forging materials into them. Combat is definitely more ARPG-like. Depends on which game we’re talking about, of course, there are a bunch of them and some are very much more JRPG than others.
