I’m using the shred build from here:
https://maxroll.gg/d4/build-guides/shred-druid-guide#skill-tree-&-gameplay-header
Mostly, it seems like a good build, but there’s one issue with it that I can’t figure out, and that is how to generate Spirit to use with shred on this build. If I use it as documented, it doesn’t hotbar Storm Strike and there’s very little else that generates spirit, resulting in me just running out of Spirit near the beginning of a fight and then not being able to use shred and having to retreat.
I solved the problem by swapping out Petrefy for Storm Strike (and then hotbaring Storm Strike) and then the build seems like a good one because when I run out of Spirit I can use Storm Strike to get it back.
But it seems like a pretty big problem that seems unlikely that maxroll would have overlooked. Am I missing something here?
Its an endgame build.
You need everything in place for this to work, so level 100, paragon boards for spirit generation.
This build is also updated for S3. Its expects you use Resource Support from your senechal.
It can be played on eternal, but they describe what you need to change:
"Eternal Realm
Resource Support is required to get out out of a Grizzly Rage setup and allow us to use Shepherd’s to increase our damage. On the Eternal Realm you need to account for this by either replacing Petrify with Storm Strike to gain a generator, or switching Shepherd’s and the Stampede with the Rampaging Werebeast and Dire Wolf’s so you can switch out of pets and into Grizzly Rage."
Switching Petrify to Storm Strike seems the best solution till you get everything up and running.
Once up and running you get spirit from kills through paragon board, Lust for Carnage legendary node, Blood Howl and Resource Support.
One thing I missed in the guide (might have overlooked) is affixes on gear: you can get resource generation on offhand and rings, spirit on kill on helm and offhand, spirit cost reduction on boots, offhand and amulet.

Its a “100% everything works as intended” kind of build, where if things DON’T work exactly as intended it crashes hard.
You utilize blood howl and your robot for a little spirit to “prime” your character for shredding. Its expecting you’re going to be basically one shotting all the mobs to reduce the CD of blood howl so that as soon as you finish one shred you can use it again for more spirit (with lust for carnage generating a little extra); Rinse and repeat, shred, blood howl, shred, blood howl, ect.
The second you run into a situation where you’re not able to perform 100% “as intended” you’re going to run into rage starvation hardcore. This is one reason that Waxing gibbon is listed as extremely nice in the build (as it guarantees criticals for proccing lust for carnage), and why it reccomends utilizing the umbral Aspect early on for extra Spirit gen.
IMO, just remove petrify and play it as a more “normal” Playstyle until you get everything you want— but at that point the game’s OVER with, so I kind of ask at that point “What’s the point now?”.
Plan on using stormstrike more or less 99% of your run (It even mentions that stormstrike midway down as something that you’ll use until swapping for petrify), and have fun with it without worrying about maxxing things out.
I had kind of the same issue with the poison shredder build from icy veins (which is almost the same) until I decided to relax and swap a builder for one of the skills and just have fun with it instead of focusing on min-maxing.

I have done some quantum computing for you and I’d like to point out you are missing the appendix fine print that suggests you would play this build…but really you should play Charge Barb…
if you are not lvl 100 you should use the lvling shred build what is somehow different then this build .
I started my second druid for the season using that build. What I did was drop the petrify for storm strike. I’m at level 61 with it and am having a bunch of fun. There is no standing still with this build. you have to keep it moving. I’ve also found that it appears to work better than the normal companion build.
My first Druid, I leveled as companion and then switched to a Fleshrender build. That was fun until I needed to be able kill end bosses. I’m now running a stormclaw build with that. It’s doing better…
I am wanting to find out how this companion, poison shredder will do once I get to end game content.
