So you are criticizing the games campaign without even taking the time to understand it GG. Akarat is a pretty impactful character throughout Diablo Lore lol. (e.g. He founded the church of Zakarum after the angel Yaerius revealed to him the neccessity to resist all things evil and fully devote yourself to the light) You know those angel things you think are missing.
The campaign has set up 3 divergent pathways now, 1. Finding Tyrael with Lorath probably to discover why Heaven is Silent. 2. Mephistos rise to power using the Zakarum as his army. 3. The return of the brothers to Sanctuary.
If you are a TLDR gen gamer, we get it, you donât like to read, but that doesnât make the story or campaign bad. My only personal criticism is that it was short, I would of liked to seen more especially with the direction Prahva is now taking.
Tyreal is dead his presumed tomb can be found in Hawezar (In the south of the helltide zone) there is a ruined church the one from the Cinematic intro of the game
In addition I think Lorath is dead, at least his head joined with Elias on the tree of Whispers.
Except of that I agree with you. VoH set the table for Mephisto travel to the West to bring his brothers into sanctuary.
The High Heavens will have to respond in some manner, allowing the burning hell conquering Sanctuary will be a great blow against them.
Ok that sounds great didnât know the backstory to Akarat and his alter ego Aslam. But was any of this actually incorporated into the story in the game? I did get very bored and have to skip a lot of dialogue, so maybe i missed it. But if itâs not actually explained during the campaign then thatâs a miss. All 3 of those paths seem great and they shoulda all been referenced in the campaign as well to bring more depth to the story.
It was just filler. Not a good story. I liked where the first one was going. Lilith was also a strong character. They focused on the girl way too much. Meph should have killed her in the beginning and we fight him at the end. They should have focused on that masked knight way more. He was actually interesting. I think it just failed to deliver anything.
While I agree that the lack of angels (and Lorath) has hurt the story a bit, I think the VoH campaign was actually pretty awesome. Surprised to see posts like this.
The ending was a bit abrupt and somewhat confusing.
Other than that, it was good. And it took me probably 9 hours to play it, which was about as advertised.
I kept wondering where the hell is Lorath, turns out, he didnât show up.
The fact that we save Neyrelle doesnât bother me, itâs almost of surprise since every soulstone wearer since D1 alway dies horribly, it was an unexpected twist!
I bet her previous soul-link with Mephisto will help in future expansion!
Other than that I bet the next expansion is about the eternal conflict coming to sanctuary. There will be angel and demon on sanctuary. Mephisto will, again âoffer his helpâ (spoiler, the dog was just a âsmall shardâ of his consciousness)
Loraths path was in the note in the horadrim HQ at the end. The Akarat link could of been explained a tad better, but there is alot of lore referencing Akarat throughout the franchise as a whole, they likely did some assumed knowledge, they did explain why he took the form of the lion when they bound him to a spirit. Mephisto himself basically warned of the 3âs return, and it was the over-arching theme of Lilithâs campaign getting humanity strong enough to fight them.
That was never going to happen, the whole point of the expansion is to set up the story to come, killing Neyrelle would be old hat, they did it with Leah and the Dark Wanderer etc, this broke the thematic cycle, and thatâs a good thing. Urivar was an afterthought because that is entirely what he is, a remnant of a failed campaign. Bringing Prahva back has more potential for an interesting ally in the future, Urivar would of just been copy/pasta of the knights from Campaign 1; Itâs smarter writing to have Prahva trying to follow some repentive path.
As for overall, the story was engaging, and most people are only disappointed because it ended shortly, which has been my criticism. If you want more, itâs not a bad story.
I felt the same way. I like the expansion except for the story. It felt like an old expansion just to go save neyrelle, and listening to my character feel so much sympathy for her for some reason. I actually said after I was done with the story that I actually enjoyed the base game campaign more then whatever the hell this expansion story was. It was complete dumpster fire of a story.
She is not a weak girl, she is a strong independent woman, the type sweet baby loves so much.
Also all villains are men ofc, how could It be?
Wouldnât It be much better if at the end she would have smashed the gem into her head (awesome D1 vibes) as she finally Lost It, we were late and everything is F. UpâŚ
No, ofc notâŚ
When I was in Durance lvl3 I got goosebumps and thought this is it and then nope. Instead you (like literally every dungeon etc) go up and follow a path that leads into a big square where a boss fight is, how creative. Not even meph either, some harbinger wolf no one cares about.
Imagine how epic it would be if you entered durance of hate lvl3 and the council and Mephisto were there? That wouldve made up for the trash story before hand. Guess iâll go play Diablo 2.
Agreed, I have near the same impression of the story, it felt like a filler and at the same time a repetition. I was just more ok with the lion, but the rest is pretty on point.
Specially the absence of true Mephisto. In this rate we will only face Diablo in 2077 if we doâŚ
Havenât played the campaign, have only watched most(?) of it so far.
You donât need to âreadâ a Diablo campaign. You experience it in action, or you watch it performed. If you believe something about this framing has changed, please elaborate.
Itâs always more fascinating knowing how different lore elements link together in the backdrop. Itâs good food for thought. But the actual campaign presentation has to be its own meal. I assume you think the details you included (aside from predictions) in your post are adequately presented in what plays out on the screen, during the campaign?
I donât think Blizzard needs SBI to write badly, pretty much every form of media has crap writing for new entries in old franchises. Younger people who think they know better, or are activists and have no respect for the fans, the original creator or the source material itself.
We should start a campaign about how racist blizzard is because they removed Tyreal, a positive black role model. Use their previous wokism against them
Negatives:
The dialog was 100% pure Gen-Z marvel movie cringe.
99% of objectives are âTalk to Narelleâ
All the characters including your own are completely insufferable but especially Narelle. And any manufactured main plot points, just like Act 2-4 of the main game campaign are progressed with hologram spirits and rituals that instantly remove any challenge or tension in the story.
The vibe is that we are supposed to care about characters, but the dialog is so cringe its impossible to care about the lame Narnia spirit lion, Nyrelle sooking and complaining the whole time.
Honestly so bad and a chore to get through. I donât know who the target audience was for the campaign but it wasnât someone in their 40s whoâs been playing since the original title.
