I have been thinking about buying the expansion. The only thing is that I have played for hundreds of hours and have zero mythics. I have had one 3 ga only. it’s so tough to bring your char to the next level without better gear and I am just not getting any. I don’t know if I should spend the 40 bucks hoping I might get some better gear. in some of the expansions areas.Yesterday for example, 175 Beliel runs in a row and nothing of worth. Is it worth the money and additional hours playing? I do really like the game but not getting gear is super frustrating.
The expansion isn’t going to give you better/more loot.
In terms of power, you’ll unlock runes and mercenaries, so I recommend researching those things.
For example, go to Maxroll’s D4Planner and see how you can build a mercenary or what runes you can equip.
You can only have one mercenary active (along with an extra skill from another mercenary) and 4 runes (2 pairs in armor or weapons gems slots. You must combine 2 runes to get 1 effect.)

First of all never pay full price for any game, it’ll go on sale again soon. You aren’t missing out on much right now without the expansion. Second of all Mythics are meant to be chase items again, so they may be more rare now. Probably easier to get resplendent sparks and try to get runes.

Do not buy the expansion.
In 6 months the second expansion will release and it will likely release as a bundle.
You are better off playing some other game and biding your time.

Expansion doesn’t directly help you getting better gears.
Benefit of Expansion
- Runes
- Spiritborn class
- Mythic Unique specific craft
- Nahantu region & Undercity dungeon
- Mercenaries
Runes are powerful and can craft mythic uniques. However, season 8 reduces rate drop of runes very much. I can’t get enough runes to craft mythic if I don’t buy them from other players (400-500M each).
No one farms in Nahantu. This region has 2 bosses, neither is interesting.
- Urivar doesn’t drop good loots.
- Harbinger has immortal phases and 1-hit-kill mechanics.
Undercity dungeon is only good for farming Obducite. Other keys are waste of time.
Spiritborn is the weakest class 3 seasons in a row.
By the way, if you want to buy expansion, it occasionally on sale for 40%.

Blizzard’s revenue-focused strategy appears to be yielding results. I am curious how many others share your perspective and have started spending money.
Now, I have to admit that’s an advantage of the expansion: being able to craft Mythics with runes.
But runes aren’t that easy to find, so it’s not fast.

The 2nd expansion does not release until sometime in 2026. What do you know that we don’t source please.
This is exactly what they want you to think. 
Whether you buy the expansion or not is completely up to you.
I personally did not. The base game does not show enough balance or promise of actual fun endgame content for me to want to throw another $30 at this on sale.
I will say the s9 PTR balance may make you feel different as there is a multipler on Runes that you may want based on where base package player power is sitting. But I don’t plan on getting it, because again it is just a display of poor game balancing…the whole reason I never got the expansion.

Its pretty cheap, if you like the game just buy it.

i dare say we wont even be seeing the next expansion ever, with the trash for this season and again with season 9…i dont think microsoft is gonna be fooling around with blizztard much longer, or they will fire 90 percent of the d4 team and try and start fresh
If you have 0 issues without the expansion…STAY AWAY FROM IT on PC.
Needs to start with with the upper management of Blizzard first.

Nobody here can tell you if you should buy the expansion only you can decide if the stuff locked behind it is worth it to you or not
