Now I’ve got caught up to any and all changes, That’s for sure how it feels.
What I also don’t like is that is was fun in a Party to see the Loot drop when Boss was killed and we all went “Got one!”
I don’t know who they took Feedback from. Since Season 04 I’ve never had an issue with Randoms in a Boss Lair. In fact people would gladly keep Summoning the Boss if we ran out of Mats and they still had a few Stacks.
Other players have always been cool. I’ve made more Friends in this game staying up late and chillin in Duriels Chamber or running Undercity than any other game.
Now it feels we just “use” people for a Party to get an extra drop. Idk. Feels like an unnecessary feature this Chest thing and everyone spend their own Mats.
There’s been so many times I’ve spent all my Mats just because I was bored and wanted people to play with and let them get some Drops.
Idk.

Playing with friends, and how easy it is, is one of the big draws for battle.net games.
This decision is a big middle finger to playing with friends.

This needs to be an option and not forced. Absolutely zero reason we can’t have it this way or the old way through a toggle. I do these bosses with friends and one friend is always going to have less mats then the other and now they just gotta sit there and watch while we get all the rewards which then is a double negative when belial spawns too.

The keys are tradeable, so you can give some to friends with none.

I dislike the change. I seriously doubt that people piggybacking into boss fights was a serious issue, especially when boss mats were so easy to come by. Not to mention all of the players that were willing to let higher level players piggy back because they would kill the boss for them. This was a complete non-issues.
That being said, the change doesn’t really affect me or my party. Two of us end up farming the boss mats and then we share them around equally. Sure, it means that we end up with less boss summons, but’s that not an issue because most seasons we end up with far too many mats anyway.

Everyone in the group uses mats on the chest every boss kill.
There’s no longer the 1 guy uses mats to summon boss 50 times and the rest just afks and collect loot.
This is a bad change because it reduces the availability for mythics by like 90% or something lol
Yes, if a friend needs a few to spawn a boss a friend will hook him up however when you do these bosses with friends it often happens that someone has 50-100 left while the other runs out and I ain’t giving my friend an hour of mats nor do I expect him to give me an hour of mats.
Noice, aint it? Hope they also remove the group bonus drops, ability to resurrect each other and massively boost mobs hp and dmg relative to the party’s size. Hopefully, that would shut the holes of the mentally beautiful people on this forum that know only to complain about lack of challenge while grouping, playing s tier builds, trading, rmting, duping and doing diablo knows what other god gamer moves.
Did i say it was a perfect solution? No, it’s a workaround. The pluses of the new system outweigh the negatives.

Oi mate. I have my own apartment. On wellfare check. Wait… That means… I get paid to play Diablo 4?.. FINALLY BLIZZARD WILL LISTEN TO ME! I AM NOW A PRO D4 STREAMER WOOO
Nor any good.
Now is very well done. You farm for your mats, you open the chest with your mats. No longer leeching.
Actually you can still leech by just being in the party.
So its a win win situation.
Was there actually really negatives to the old way though?
I never saw any. All the way back since Season 04 I never had a negative experience or met anyone who said so as well.
The only thing I’ve ever heard negative about Bossing is that people are getting bored of it.
So instead of changing it drastically they just added a step or two that adds forced participation for the “sake” of participation.
It just doesn’t make sense to change it this way because in the old way, you always had the cholce to interact with Altar and use your Mats. No one could force you.
That’s why this change doesn’t make sense. We already had the choice.

When trying new builds, you summoned boss, find out you couldn’t beat it and retreat with your head hung low - lose your summoning mats. Not anymore. Also, cut down on leeches. Patch notes explained it
Developer’s Note: We’ve received feedback that players would jump into a party, have a member of their party pay the material cost to summon a boss, kill the boss to earn the rewards, then leave the party. This behavior felt unfair to players who were paying the material cost to summon the boss, so now each player must pay the material cost to reap a boss’ rewards from their Hoard. Additionally, we received feedback that it felt unfair to pay the material cost to summon a boss to test your build against, only to die and not receive any rewards. Now, you can fight any Lair Boss on Torment Difficulty I and higher to determine if you have what it takes to best the boss before sinking materials into them.

I was able to test my build with all bosses in T1. It was refreshing to get challenged, and realize where I needed to improve (mostly in movement speed).
I enjoyed the new boss mechanics, too.

So they do not want players to join a public party, come in and wait for a Random or Party Leader to spend their Mats, get the Rewards and then leave.
So people can’t join a Boss Party and Leech a kill for free Rewards.
I’ve never had that happen. People have always been cool. Every Public Party I joined, 8/10 times the Party Leader would actually ask us if we also want to come to a different Boss and offer free Pulls.
I’ve never had made my own Public Party and someone in it was not taking their Turn. that’s never happened. Everyone I always played with was always super cool.
And if they ran out of Mats and I still had some, I would spend mine and tell them to stay. Just to be nice. Just to hand out. And that always made it so someone got a Mythic and they were super happy.
Because Mats were never an issue. Just go run Undercity for a while.
But I guess it’s a good change that way any of that behavior can’t happen in the first place.

The point was it costed you nothing extra to just be kind to a friend or a stranger. Something about that was fun, honestly. I think their “feedback” was a complete lie on their part. I think they just want to force everything to be a super slow slog for every player. There must always be a cost! That’s their new philosophy. More expensive Battle Pass, more expensive skins, a cost for every player, etc etc.

Yup, been there done that. No greater feeling than “gifting” to leachers. And by leacher i mean those who join a party (that is open) stay for all the boss kills and peace out when they get their item. Personally glad everyone has to pay. If i have a ton of mats, i trade them to my party members to they can open chests. Only for friends and clan members. Rest can go FT. I have alot of mats on Eternal. Clearing stash space before the end of this season, probably a week before.

Truth. Great feeling to know “Heck yeah i got this” but then the other “well, that didnt go as planned, need to rethink this”. No loss on mats

They could make it so only one person has to open the chest though, after the fact. Like in Citadel.
With the way bosses are now - it’s a good change. They take longer and many will be unprepared for the fights.
Now you need to come prepared and be able to carry your own weight. Each player added chonks up that HP.
