It seems to me Blizzard has put all their eggs in a one basket…Softcore Seasons. They have gutted and shafted the eternal realms twice; I’m not even going to bother playing those characters anymore, because I can’t trust them not to gut it again. They don’t seem to care in the least about hardcore. They implement so many insta-death mechanics, many on hardcore players don’t even bother playing some of the content and their server lag is killing more characters that actually playing. I’ve lost 3 characters, two died from lag (one was just riding a mount) and one from my playing. It’s kind of incredible to believe with all the advancements in game tech they haven’t bothered to implement a system to differentiate between a lag death and player death. They have the escape scroll, already monitor ping and virtually every other aspect of the game. Why not add the ability to recover a character killed by lag. HC is virtually dead, the economy is anemic, because who wants to trade for high value items in this playing environment?
The game is struggling to keep their player base, sure they are making money on new sales, but their player retention is not good. So, their answer is to ignore and shaft 2/3 of the game and focus only on SC seasons, which many players get bored half-way through. Come on Blizz stop shafting the eternal realm and give HC some love.

I have yet to lose a single character to lag. Been playing about 100 hours per season.
One shots, that’s a whole different story.
Unless you mean computer lag? I’m assuming you’re talking about internet lag.
Dude, eternal hasn’t been a major factor since Diablo 2 season 1. You’re about 30 years too late for that bus. The majority of players dont play (or even delete) their eternal characters when the season ends.
Hardcore has NEVER been the priority. It’s just an additional game mode. They dont specifically develop for it. They never have. They actually tried a bit on D4 release, giving us scrolls and elixirs of death protection, and people in the HC community hated it. The majority of players WANT the difficulty of the base game.
Also, you can’t go around saying “The game is struggling to keep their palyer base” without proof. I mean you CAN…you just sound childish when you do. You have no information proving their “player retention is not good.” Even metrics like twitch views only show how many people are streaming and watching, not how many are actually playing.
If YOU dont like a thing, then put together a well thought out post explaining why you think it should be better, and HOW you think it could be made better. If you’re not willing to put in that effort, then you’re mostly just whining into the e-void.
Also, 95% of “server lag” is on your end. I know there was a huge spike for a few hours a few days ago where multiple players from multiple regions were having issues, but that’s the exception. Most of the time, it’s your own ISP or video settings/hardware causing that issue.
