Blizzard Just Butchered the Battle Pass Platinum

Blizzard really looked at the Battle Pass, saw people getting 700 Platinum, and said, “Nah, let’s cut that down to 200.” Are you serious? That’s not a rebalance. That’s not a quality-of-life update. That’s straight-up daylight robbery with a smile.

This isn’t a change. It’s a scam.

You’re telling me I’m supposed to grind through an entire season, only to walk away with a pathetic 200 Platinum? Not even enough to afford a fraction of the overpriced garbage in the shop. What’s the point? What exactly am I paying for here besides the privilege of being milked dry?

Blizzard used to stand for something. Now it’s just another suit-driven machine hellbent on squeezing every last dime out of its players. Diablo 4 launched with so much hype and hope, and now it’s turning into a cautionary tale about how to absolutely kill goodwill and community trust in real time.

This isn’t about supporting the game. This is about corporate greed dressed up in seasonal cosmetics. It’s about manipulating your most loyal players into coughing up more cash every few months while you slowly strip away anything that resembled value or respect.

You’re not encouraging engagement. You’re pushing people out. You’re telling us that loyalty means nothing. That grinding means nothing. That spending time in your game means absolutely nothing unless we’re pulling out the credit card.

This is a disgrace. You should be embarrassed. Reverse the change. Stop treating your community like fools. Because if this is your idea of long-term strategy, the only thing you’re building is a legacy of disappointment.

Fix it.

Don’t worry they also removed the equivalent of 20 cosmetics from the previous Battlepass to compensate the missing 500 platinum.

Playing too many gacha/NetEase games, pal.

The new Battle Pass with Reliquaries really made what happens more obvious. Previous you bought Battle Pass then leveled up through it to get your items; behind the scenes you were earning favors to obtain those items in a more silent way.

With the reliquaries it really becomes more obvious; you pay 1000 platinum for empty chests and the right to fill that chest with the coin you bought the right to earn through your battle pass purchase. Logically for me this means you pay 1000 platinum for three empty chests you now earn a different currency to purchase items to fill your chest.

they went from 700 to 200, and the battle pass price is the same as before. Huge, massive, downgrade. Pure cashgrab.

700 which you had to pay for in advance, to 200 that is available for everyone.

again - people did ask for this. Be careful what you wish for.

Actually they went from 700 to ZERO… None of that 200 is included in anything from the 1000 platinum battle pass. The free 200 is from the “Season Journey” side that is free for everyone… Maybe in the Belial reliquary.

such a huge post, just to delete it immediately?

Let me break this down for you, slow and loud. Blizzard took something that used to be part of a paid package and sliced it into a “freebie” but in the process, they ripped out the only real value the paid Battle Pass had left.

700 Platinum included in a purchase meant players could reinvest in future passes or even save toward cosmetics. Now it’s 200 tossed into the free tier like scraps from the table. Not enough for anything. Not meaningful. Not generous. It’s performative generosity at best.

That’s not a win. That’s a classic corporate trick. Repackage less as more, label it “free,” and hope people don’t notice the math doesn’t math anymore.

You say “be careful what you wish for”? Yeah, people asked for more rewards in the free track, but not for the paid tier to be gutted like a fresh hellspawn in a Tier 100 dungeon. Blizzard didn’t add anything. They shifted the goalposts, took away value from paying players, and are now pretending it’s a win because technically there’s Platinum in the free path now.

You know what that is? A textbook bait-and-switch.

So before you come in here acting like you’re dropping knowledge, maybe educate yourself on what a scam looks like in action. Because this? This is it.

oh, for the people that purchased battlepasses it sure as hell isnt. Still, people asked for it here, multiple times. I hope thats slow and loud enough for you.

I for sure dont win from this change, others that asked for it that dont regularily purchase battlepasses do eventually tho.

cant win every time my friend.

You should be embarrassed over having such a breakdown over a silly video game. This behavior is so childish.

fun-fact - he’ll purchase the battlepass anyway.

Unless 500-700 platinum is hiding inside the Season Journey somewhere, yeah, we went from a final cost of 300 platinum per season (after initial buy-in) to 800. Essentially, in order to get your battle pass you’re being required to spend ~8 bucks per quarter instead of ~3.

For what you get out of it, I’d still say it’s a very reasonable price (even though it still looks like a reduced quantity in total cosmetics), unlike the shop itself, but it is pretty wild to nearly triple the long-term cost of the battlepass and call it an improvement for the players. If this doesn’t result in real improvements to the live-service side of the game via better, faster development, etc., it will have been for nothing but filling the corporate coffers, which is pretty lame.

It’s also a shame that they are maintaining the 2800 option on top of this price hike with nothing but a pet and wings. If you’re going to triple the price of a bundle’s effective base cost, having another super premium model on top of it to complete the armor set with matching wings that then triples that cost as well…not their finest moment on the monetization front.

This is Blizzard at its most shameless. Diablo 4 could’ve been a return to form, but instead it’s just a glorified storefront with some dungeon crawling duct-taped to it. Tripling the battle pass cost and pretending it’s some kind of win for players? That’s corporate doublespeak at its finest. They’re not innovating, they’re inflating.

The cosmetics you get? Mid at best. Pets that look like low-effort mods, wings that belong in a mobile gacha game, and “bundles” that are really just overpriced scraps they couldn’t be bothered to integrate into actual gameplay. It’s monetization for the sake of monetization, nothing more.

And then you’ve got the fanboys out here bending over backwards to defend this garbage, like Blizzard’s paying them in exposure. “It’s only eight bucks!” they cry, as if that’s a valid excuse for predatory design. These clowns will justify anything as long as it’s wrapped in Diablo branding. At this point, Blizzard could sell a blank cosmetic slot for $20 and you’d still get people on Reddit calling it a “bold new monetization strategy.”

Let’s stop pretending this is about supporting development. It’s about draining wallets while putting out the bare minimum. The live service “improvements” are a joke, the updates are slower than a resurrected skeleton, and the endgame is so barren you’d think it was procedurally generated by an intern on their lunch break.

Diablo 4 didn’t just miss the mark. It lit the mark on fire, sold the ashes as a battle pass exclusive, and then asked for a tip.
