Blizzard, don't increase drop rates

You’re absolutely right, and we agree that right now it’s way too grindy for too little of pay off. The temptation is to then increase drop rates, but I submit drop rates aren’t the issue causing the problem.

It’s a situation where they need to be aware of the levers they pull here. Increasing drop rates mean the already limited trade game becomes diminished. Why do that when they can simply add more itemization, and a smart loot toggle, for instance. Where if you have smart loot off for farming, you have a much higher chance of getting things that are valuable, that perhaps you can’t use, but others really want. Or maybe inspires you to make an alt.

Then make an AH or something.

This is the route they should focus on. The go to mantra of “increase drop rates” is a road to hell filled with good intentions. I’m just asking for them to be cognizant of it is all, really. Of course it can be tweaked here and there and not be game destroying. I just know where this has a tendancy to go…

The issue with the loot is that it sucks. I’ve never played a Diablo game where I’ve ever been as unexcited for gear drops as I’ve been with D4.

With all the random affixes, tempering and masterworking it’s less “yes! I got it!” And more like “f***ing finally…” when you get a piece of gear to work out.

It would be better to offer a self found mode. And then have a standard mode. It’s a proven working model. ARPG loot hunters without trade are also without playerbases.

We’re gonna build an AH. And it’s gonna be a beautiful AH. The most beautiful AH you’ve ever seen.

You lost me at “trade game” and AH.

The minute gameplay and fun are sacrificed on the alter of protecting the trade economy I will fight you tooth and nail or drop the game. It’s why I don’t play PoE. Spamming trade chat or posting on some third party forum is not fun gameplay for most.

And lets not forget, many of the “protect muh trade economy” advocates really want to keep things rare so they can RMT them.

But why not just agree about having a self found mode and a standard mode. I wouldn’t want to take away how you enjoy the game, why be ok with taking away how I enjoy the game. When neither is necessary. The small playerbase that plays ARPG loot hunters self found can have their mode; I don’t see why not.

If you’re worried about a ghost town there, well you should be asking if it’s right to force people to play how they don’t want to play so you can have your way.

I would be all for that if SSF mode had modified drop rates to account for the lack of trade. But it would likely be like PoE’s SSF mode that just disables trade and keeps the same drop rates. You either have to play a build that doesn’t depend on specific items or make your build around whatever drops.

I wouldn’t stand for anything less, personally. It’s not hard to do either. That’s how it should be done. SSF should get you to gg gear about as fast as the standard mode would via trade. Absolutely.

People keep saying this. It’s nonsense. There’s no reason to complicate itemization with hackneyed bs. As long as loot-based ARPGs have existed There’s been trash loot and trash tiers. Basically every RPG has garbage items.

If anything, they should reduce random loot items to 3 tiers: yellow, leg, and ancestral.

I will never understand the mental gymnastics people take to personally justify why garbage items can’t just be garbage. Their quick decline into uselessness is fine. The vast majority of the game is spent at level cap, items ocassionally used while leveling can stay there.

My prediction for midseason patch or season 7:
-paragon 300 will be like 10 hours like lvl 100 was TOPS
-double mw material drop
-every class will speedfarm 150 to match spiritborn
-t4 will drop guaranteed ancestral items
-tormented bosses will drop mythic every run
so dad gamers with 39 kids 4 wives and 6 full time jobs can achieve everything in 1 week.

OP , understands alright. Hes an item seller wanting crazy dollar amounts for his items

You forgot:

Season last 7 days and everybody is bored and quits…like D3.

Not to mention when you step out of that cave for the first time, you are damned glad to find those blues…and that first yellow is like finding a Mythic. :joy:

Bad comparison, D3 had it’s issues with RNG, it wasn’t just getting the best gear once you hit 70 you had to grind grind for your set items then RNG reforge the stats , dont even get me started on the drop rates of gifts of ramaladins in the early game , along with squirts necklace.

yet there are people who BLINDLY believe there are no weights behind affixes…

No, and I can’t even play D2 now because Blizzard refuses to do bot banwaves there anymore. So long as Blizzard is at least lifting a finger, RMT can be tempered decently. It’s just their choice to do.

In the mean time, trade is essential for a successful ARPG loot hunter. They just need a self found mode as well.

The point I wanted to make with D3 is that if they make everything easy, people will get everything in 3 days and quit after a week like D3 is since they introduced season. 90% of people doesn’t play after 2 weeks in a 3 months season.

Or not… Less trade and more drops will also allow people to outfit their builds and will eliminate the need to buy stuff from the bot farmers and duplicators. Thankfully the developers do not want to repeat the mistakes of the D3 launch.

Killing Duriel and all those bosses for like 1 thousand times is most fun thing i ever did in my life. Its a so fun non dull, fun, interesting, hard and challenging activity that every game should have.
