Big disconnect from professional reviews

Review bombing is one cause. There’s already been reports of it. Happened with Final Fantasy 16 also. Same with Horizon: Forbidden West and Elden Ring. It’s almost a guarantee that any big name game that comes out now is gonna get the 4chan trolls bombing it for lulz.

That said, I also never look at reviews. Most “professional” reviewers are paid, and given free copies of the game, plus a deadline. They’re tone deaf, and aren’t anywhere near as reliable as they used to be. Customer reviews (at least for games) tend to be heavily biased in one direction or another, and are just wildly inaccurate across the board.

we the consumer have the last say, we complain here b/c we want longevity and most importantly to have fun. if the game gives nothing but frustration then where’s the fun in that? the challenge is not fun but frustrating, most of the time the challenge itself are predetermined and calculated wall and not encouraging player to adapt; forcing the player to instead do chore to amend the challenges. there is no fluidity in the journey. they’ve lost what makes diablo game fun, it lost its mystery, the scary dungeon diving, remember when u first pick it up and u go down that church lower and lower, u feel the sense of mystery and adventure. u won’t find that anymore in blizzard’s game. When the game released, i w8ted 1 week for the review and that’s the only biased i have when i bought the game, i didn’t watch the beta tester, any q and a etc, b/c i don’t want it to be fully spoiled. the review itself was a lil negative and i expected it will be a let down and it was but still i wanted to have that fun.

heres what ruined the game for me. 1-50 scaling, it is not a challenge but an annoying wall in every level. may be it ruined it for me b/c i played wow and it have that mechanic.

the side quest - it was a chore filler in every zone that let you ADHD away from the main quest and it was unrewarding + it rewarded you with gear that you can’t equip.

the skeleton animation seems to be missing some frames in it; it ruined the immersion then someone told me to look at my shadow, then that put really hard dent that i can’t get out off. simple things that are annoying adds up. i was thinking how did those thing get pass through quality check. did some animators failed at their field or newly hired?

But then again, WHO CARES?
Everyone has their own opinions(reviews) on a game, or anything for that matter, that’s how it should be.
I for one would never base my likes/dislikes on someone else’s opinion, in this case a review on a game.
I wouldn’t care if 99% reviews were negarive on D4, I like it, so I play it. period.

opinion and facts are two different thing.

Well, the part that reviewers played was pretty good. I’d even say 9/10, leaving room for improvements. The issues really start showing themselves after the campaign, especially after 70. So the user reviews are based on this.

Review bombing exists but still, if it is a good game, the divide will not be this huge. You used Elden Ring as example right. Look at the metacritic scores for it.

The difference is around 20 percent AND it still got around 8 scores from users. Literally no excuse that Diablo is a flawed release. How flaw? Up for players to feel them.

Yet they are connected and you cannot base one without another; or both are meaningless gibberish.

I wish you can expand your opinion.

also look at nioh 2, it is a soul game with diablo mechanic(dungeon crawling, farm gear, recraft it repeat till u hit the deepest level). look at how satisfied their players, it almost matched the critic. that’s the huge difference* with customer satisfaction vs paid reviews. also the corporate goblins in blizzard can pay fake chinese reviews to post ramp up their score. dirty but that’s reality, they even did that in diablo immortal lol.

Professionals are doing their job. They are more used than us to review different games and know better what a 0/10 game is (~400 user reviews at 0/10… really 0/10?).
Saying that they are paid by Blizzard for an high score is laughable… lying for a copy of the game, really?

Everyone can give a score in metacritic even the ones who don’t own the game… Also there is this kind of echo chamber about how bad the game, how the end-game is insignificant, etc. and that amplifies by streamers who want to create some buzz around them.
Also, players review the game not as it is, but more about what they want compared to that game or that one.
Blizzard did a lot of publicity. I guess a lot of players not really aware of what a Diablo game is just bought a not-for-them game, then joined the echo chamber as they have only that to do.
