Baldurs Gate 3 causing devs to panic - An excellent take on AAA RPG gaming!

I thought this was an excellent take from IGN on the current state of AAA RPG gaming right now.

Right?!

Like blizzard used to produce those kinds of games all the time and now these AAA companies want to constantly make excuses for why their games are “incomplete” or not up to the standards that gamers have come to expect. I understand you gotta make money to make games, but Larian and a few other select studios are showing the world, you can still make a great game in today’s era of gaming.

Well, it pretty much goes without saying, if you’re going to do a job do a good job not a half assed one or customers won’t come back.

I thought that was standard rules of all business & just common sense!!!

Old Blizzard games were made by gamers, for gamers

New Blizzard games are made by committee, for shareholders

I really miss the Blizzard of old! I remember the midnight openings to buy the latests WoW. The hours upon hours spent of SC WC2 WC3 D1 D2 and walking away with a smile not feeling like it was a waste of time. I remember talking them up to friends and others telling them they make quality games. I dont do this anymore. :frowning:

Overwatch 2 and now Diablo IV show that Blizzard truly is dead

I have played BG3. It’s non stop BS text and dialogue… Combat is lame as hell as well… RNG is simply disgusting. Ugh… Last game I really enjoyed was Cyberpunk. I am getting old.

Give it six months and gamers will have moved on.

Yeah… BG3 is pretty hardcore with the D&D rules. However, if you own the game, it’s free to mod, and not too complicated, beyond placing one file in a folder to enable mods on full release. You can then enjoy high hit rates (or even high crit rates), higher stats (called abilities in BG3), raised level cap, and even spells that weren’t included from the extended library. Nexusmods is where it’s at.

Yep. You have gotten old.

Meanwhile, the rest of us ARE enjoying BG3 and POE while Blizz hemorrhages fanbase.

Yeahhhhh, no. Really not. Even if Blizz throws everything into rebuilding D4, the ill-will its already engendered will be around for years.

Damn that sounds amazing. I haven’t played a game like that since probably the early 2000’s. I remember how difficult Baldurs Gate 1 was and even getting my butt handed to me by the wizard at the next town out of Candlekeep until I took the time to learn the mechanics.

This exactly, which is why IMO all the complaining is futile. The only language Blizz speaks now is money. Anything else is noise.

Blizzard North team, this is the key to blizzards survival, but they gonna have to pay to bring that talent back. Hence why D3 was chaos throughout development.

And W3 Reforged, and now COD3 out when COD2 still fresh.

Highly doubt that will ever happen. Those people would be too busy with consulting & cooperating with GGG anyways

We can dream, but I know most of the team from back in the day ended up at Echtra, and two years ago, they announced development of an RPG. So my hope is the brains behind D1 and D2, can do something again, innovative, I am confident they will.

BG 3 is the kind of game that you can lose yourself in, and suddenly realize the sun is coming up. Haven’t had that kind of gaming experience in 15+ years. Gaming companies need to wake up and get on Larian Studios wave. We’re done buying games only to find out they’re trash. I’ll even be waiting for a few months to try Starfield, just in case it’s a buggy mess.
