Like, I’m level 66. I’m in WT4, and I’m still using level 47 gloves (For example) simply because no gloves with higher defense have dropped.
My survivability in WT4 is trash because the game refuses to give me useful gear, but I don’t have a chance at useful gear unless I’m in WT4.
It’s a catch-22 making the game basically unplayable:
Either I play at WT3 and get no good gear, ever, and garbage EXP.
Or I die in WT4 because I don’t have good gear, and never get better gear from anything that does drop.
You’re level 66, WT4 is intended for level 70. So if you haven’t gotten full sacred gear yet, you’re going to get trampled. If you haven’t gotten a decent set of legendaries, the same. If you haven’t gone and unlocked all of the paragon that you can, you’re gimping yourself.
Gear takes time to get, and although you ‘can’ find Ancestral gear in WT4 as soon as you go there, the drop rates are scaled to level. Meaning that at 60-70 most of the gear you find will be sacred, with a few rare and ancestral thrown in. From 70-80 you’ll get a better ratio of sacred to ancestral, with basically no normal rares anymore, and from 80 or 85+ you’ll basically just get ancestral gear, for the most part anyway.
Of course, the other stuff never completely goes away, you can kill a level 100 mob and get rares drop, it’s just super low chance.
If you’re not able to progress in WT4, then don’t. Go back to WT3, try to get some 700+ item power sacred in every slot, then go back to WT4.
Then the grind is finding 800+ item power ancestrals for every slot.
Yeah, 75. Yet I can’t get anything good at WT3.
Which, again, is a problem:
Either I sleepwalk WT3 and kill everything in 1 hit, and get no good gear to prepare to WT4.
Or I go WT4, get smashed, and still don’t get good gear.
At WT3 or 4; I should not still be using level 47 gloves.
There is something in the game other than garbage item drops? I have never seen one. They have fun/good items only 0.0001% of the player base will find but no trading so there’s zero point to that level of rarity, it worked in d2 ONLY because of trading. They have a handful of uniques but on the ultra rare occasion one drops its useless for your build and you CANT TRADE them, so they go in the trunk.
Beyond that, barely anyone in the game that I know or have met enjoys checking every single item that drops in the hope of a one stat upgrade, its just a bad system from the core.
Itemisation needs a complete redesign, dungeon layouts need a complete redesign, the open world needs 10x more live events to be remotely interesting, at this point they may as well just start again.
Drops in D4 are garbage in general. No rhyme or reason to the stat combos you get on gear or the ilvl of the gear. Nothing beats doing NM 50+ and still getting ilvl 500-600, 10/10 game rofl. Base ilvl and rolls need to increase as WT and NM increases, the devs kinda s**t the bed on itemization in this game
I jumped into WT3 at level 42 was difficult to advance but also quick to level up, eventually got myself to 61 by just killing mobs in the world and running +4 NMD’s. Also getting the renown to get my paragon points back helped out a lot. Legion events are a great way to gain XP. Boost that campfire XP bonus and a pot for the extra 5%. Then the ashes into XP buff. One legion event and im sitting at about 27% bonus XP gain. Out and about, about 12% But I agree with ya on the drops. 61 and the tree and obols are giving level 40+ gear and mob drops are not even close to what im building for
I feel you. I’m on level 67, going WT4 for hours and most item I got is sacred item + I kept dying to infinite CCs from monsters. Going on WT3 the drop will not help you on WT4 and the leveling is a snooze fest and grinding for item felt horrid as there are no target farming.
Currently dropping the game as I already finish the battle pass reward cosmetic (not the journey). It’s just not fun anymore since 1.1.0 patch drop because I felt so much weaker and the leveling felt like a full time job.
I’m getting a lot of unique items at lv75 but the Respec costs are so high I dont want to go through the trouble of Respecing and the idea of leveling another character to 75 to try out the same equipment sounds like a Job.
When running around open world, do the events. Do cellars. Complete regular dungeons that you don’t have done. Helltides. Spend those books.
I find mixing up all my loot sources seems to provide the best outcome. Rather than just farming NM or whispers alone.
Don’t know what class you are but at 66, you should be fine. I went to WT4 at 60. Soon as I hit 60 the quest to do the capstone popped and I went there and crushed it.
For me, the first thing I focused on was a weapon to boost out my dmg.
Good luck!
I have the same problem with my 68 rogue. She is decently equiped and I survive lvl 21 nightmare dungeons but they take twice or trice as long as the snoozefest t3 stuff and all the gear that drops isnt better than my lvl 60 gear soo… yeah.
Probably have to grind to 75 to get to the better drops. Which is a slog. Since it’s such a slog I do a couple nightmare dungeons inbetween Legion raids where people carry me easily. Thats the journey from 65 to 75. Until you grind nightmare to 100.
The game truely has balance issues. The hardest parts of the game are when you are underlvled… right after world tier transitions when 5-10 lvls below the recommended lvl for the next tier is a snoozefest.
It forces you to switch to a higher tier because it’s to easy. Then you switch and you feel like some paper trying to cut trees.
To be able to farm design RNG (but still mostly bad drops) need NM 51+
FWIW, I’m still rocking the same sacred rings for the last 30 levels since nothing else has given Crit & Vul & Crit chance. So…at least I have what I already have?
