(another) D4 is a boring game

honestly I don’t know what people want, there is actually complexity in this game, somethign I’m super surprised at is the leveling grind. This is on par with D2 levels, very surprised but understandable since there is no dangling carrot AKA infinite paragon (thank God)

The game feels pretty empty with no global chat.

Would also love to see ladder leaders deaths announced in global for all to see.

The endgame is straight up trash. No reason they couldn’t have taken PoE’s pinnacle boss ideas where you farm items to spawn hard bosses with distinct loot tables that have rare drops. They also need crafting and Last Epoch is a good example of a system similar to PoE, but much easier and less complicated. Blizzard normally steals good systems and puts their polish on the. Those two systems would help flesh the game out and it desperately needs it.

Nightmare dungeons are already essentially PoE maps. We need a map tab ala PoE for our sigils as well.

people don’t even know there’s a chat, today was kinda funny I ran into a world boss area. And there was still 25 mins till it spawned but a buncha people were standing around.

So I just typed into local chat and said why you guys waiting here when there’s still over 20 minutes till spawn. And someone responded in chat and said “LOL I had no clue this game had a chat feature”

was kinda funny but also telling

I hate how there are no grouping options in game. I have to go to discord just to find people to play with. Specially being an MMO there needs to be options to help people get together.

Last Epoch is my “go-to” for that arpg itch. Bought D4 for the story, which I have enjoyed so far. I feel the same way as you about combat. it feels recycled and boring. skills are either resource starved or on cool down too frequently - combat just feels ungratifying. If you’re looking for good medium area between the playstyles of PoE complexity and D3 simplicity then you’ll enjoy Last Epoch. I have a toon into corruption 300 and end game can feel a little sparse because all of the end game content hasn’t released yet, but more content is on the way - more content is always on the way in LE !!

One thing that Diablo 3 really impressed with were its skills and how every now and then you’d unlock a skill or a rune that would completely change it or would look really cool.

Witch Doctor was the all around winner in this department but still…I don’t see that anywhere in D4, besides to cool fire snake spell Sorcerers have.

It just doesn’t excite on any level, but hey, at least it’s much more playable as at least as fleshed out as Diablo 3’s world and lore was by the end of ROS and all its patches.

Op reasonings are sound but hes at like the rest of the arpgs do some magical thing different.

They don’t how you get from point a to b in all these titles ls basically the same.

Not sure why you think the horse attack is cringe looks fine to me but jank to use but okay.

D4 isn’t reinventing the wheel, but I mean neither was any other game you listed.

D4 is more dumbed down but your doing exactly the same shi in PoE.

The only different one might be lost ark because it has like raids on par with aaa mmos, but it’s a huge slog or p2w.

Otherwise its really the same garbage different can of paint.

Yeah it is unfortunate that the endgame isn’t there yet, but I bet it will be good. This game needs to take their crafting system though. Like PoE, but a bit less complicated.

Where are the pinnacle bosses that are spawned by farming items that give you something to hunt for? Do the pinnacle bosses have their own drop tables that make them worth killing?

Pretty much, played a bit of Grim Dawn again before release and it only made D4 issues stand out way more.

This statement is meaningless. I played Grim Dawn like 5 years ago and uninstalled and went back to D3. By your logic, GD must be a bad game because it doesn’t appeal to a random person online.

So we can agree the game is a solid 5 out of 10

Up to 50 I’d give it a 7/10. Endgame? 2/10 is generous. More like “what endgame”.

Great constructive criticism. I definitely got some of my hype smashed by the endgame as it didn’t build on what I loved about the early game. It definitely struggles with variety but so does most everything in the ARPG or MMO genre.

PoE has plenty of new season events, but their strength is their skill system which is kind of like D2 runewords, and crafting. But the maps, mobs, etc suffer the same variety issues, you’re not even looking at the environment, just powering through. Side quests in D4 are similar to every MMO I’ve ever played. The story was a lot better than Lost Ark or PoE or any of those stories, and better than D3 by an immeasurable amount.

My biggest complaints is how drastic the drop rates and power creep got between finishing the story at 50 and jumping into WT3. Then it just seemed to be a completely different experience, and not for the better. It starts off difficult and great, then jumps to easy as hell in a matter of minutes. Bugs, several and needs some love, but not broken.

I always lose interest with a ARPG once I get into the very late game. The building, leveling, and improving a character is what I enjoy. So everything after lvl 70 is meh to me. I am having a lot more fun than I expected currently.

You guys keep forgetting to start these posts with DEAR DIARY.

And how many hours is that over the space of five or so days? Any activity I do that repetitively starts to get boring.

Well the generation is still there, but you would often be able to run around mostly without using it to much later in the game.

Too much read, did not listen.

Agree with you on the story, in my opinion way better story and campaign compared to Lost ark and PoE… and thats about it, PoE thrives because of it’s lategame boss system that you are always fighting to get past, it requires very good gear and min max’d build to do every single one of them, some builds are obviously faster than others.

I thought for a second, and hoped that blizz had made something challening for about half an hour when i got to “nightmare”, sadly it turned out to become easy mode as you say in a matter of an hour or two. And no on tier 4 its even more easy, but was supposed to be harder? 4 shotting tier 2x bosses while being 6+ levels below their level, world bosses going down in less than a minute… I honestly think they got a very good skeleton to buld of, but they are abit to afraid to go that extra notch with the difficulty and in general the game, obviously you have seen people been posting that they can’t even complete the game because it is to “difficult”, which it obviously isn’t.
I think its one word that goes again, and again from every streamer… Why are the boss fights cool, but to easy? the bosses doesn’t punish you a single time, the damage they do is often 10% of your HP this goes further into the late game, even bosses with “mechanics”, green beam yet the green beam only take 30% of your HP when it should kill ya instantly… They already went to far for the average joe to even complete the game, because he has to use a braincell which is to hard, now they might as well add some depth to this late game.
