yeah, no - GotY will be between Hogwarts Legacy and BG3, and the replay value of BG3 is off the charts.

I’ve already restarted my BG3 play-thru 3 times, and I just got to the Underdark. Yeah, BG3 will keep me busy for at least a few months easy, even after CP2077 Phantom Liberty arrives.

I’ve had multiple BG3 sessions where I played past midnight, thinking I’ll just clear the next scene and go to bed, only to start hearing birds chirping outside and seeing 6AM on the desk clock >_<

I dont think anybody is comparing moment by moment core gameplay of D4 and BD3. Ofc they are different.

People are comparing devs attitude and love for the game they made. Their listening abilities. Consumer friendliness vs greed. If the game has soul and depth - are devs bunch of gamers making something they would love to spend hundreds of hours playing by themselves or they dont even play games? Do they respect your time? Do they implement artificial systems to keep you playing longer? Do they allow you to have fun the way you want or nerf fun out of the game? Is there enough of content?

In D4 if something is asked for by many it cant be done sooner than in 5 months. If something is broken but in fun way its fixed within hours like it was some esports game like CS/Valorant. They are not listening, they are out of touch, they are purely analytics driven, they dont love or even play their game. They want maximum profit for minimum effort. The only vision they respect is their own and its bad.

It does not matter one is action combat and another is turn based. You could compare GTA to Diablo and it could be still valid comparison as one product vs other product.

D4 is not failing on core moment by moment gameplay. That one + graphics are fine. It fails on everything else and its that everything else what CAN be compared.

Hogwarts was fun for awhile but drops off bigtime after lets say 100h. Zelda TOTK does have a chance at game of the year. I put it at 90% BG3 and 10% Zelda.

I want to apologize to everyone for buying D4. The direct comparison reveals just how much of a lazy, low effort piece of slop D4 is. It was a revelation.

Action RPG’s aren’t supposed to be sleep-inducing, but I’ve nodded off playing D4 multiple times because the game play is so repetitious – Never had that problem with D2/D2R. I’ve played BG3 multiple times into the next day’s morning without noticing the time because the game play is that good.

I totally agree with you about the repetition in D4, but at least if I doze off playing BG3 the game waits for me to make an action. If that happens in D4, I end up either dead, or disconnected!

As someone who regularly plays both games in the same day, they both really do need work.

BG3 really needs to work on the nuance of it’s plot and some if it’s companion interactions, and should also consider adding some depth to the very simple intuitive DnD 5e system it’s combat is based on.

D4 needs to clean out bad affixes, add QOL (that they have added to other games before it), and find smart ways to give players good loot.

Not evening mentioning the bugs in either. Just different games with different problems. But if you don’t like D4’s politics you won’t like BG3’s at all.
