I had a 4 ga crossbow (dex, max life, damage, crit damage) on my death trap rogue. Hard enough playing something non-paladin (I have 4 paladins, love em), but you gotta try right?
- Go for a sanctify.
- Affix replaced.
- Crit Damage turned into All Stats.
I originally wrote this post in anger. Today I am just sad.
Sad that a game I was really enjoying now feels utterly pointless to play. Sad that I was finally talking my gaming buddies into joining to compete on the leaderboard. And now I don’t even want to play.
This is the second time an incredible item has been ruined this way. The second character that now feels dead. I took a 3 day break the first time. Now I just feel like: why bother playing?
Players and content creators begged endlessly to remove temper bricking. When it finally happened, the game felt great and engagement BOOMED. Little did we know they slipped something worse in the back door:
Now you brick your items after investing tons of resources into getting them to sanctification phase. Now you can actually make your items and your character WEAKER.
Bad or useless sanctifications are fine. That’s RNG. But ruining your gear, making it worse/weaker/useless is just terrible.
I would literally be better off if I hadn’t played Diablo at all yesterday. I logged in, played a few hours, and ultimately went backwards.
That’s a brutal, backbreaking feeling that isn’t why I play ARPGs or games at all really.
The dev behind “Affix Replaced” should be moved to the Overwatch team.
This sucks and hurts bad.

Same happened to me today.
I can’t even imagine how they come up with things ike that and actually believe it’s a good idea.
And I came back after a long time and was thrilled and hopeful.
This is so disrespectful to the players.
I stopped playing too. I am sick and tired of Blizzard treating players the way they do.

Imo Sanctification should never “replace” anything. Just add. Now, whether it adds what you want or not, that’s the gamble, but it should never tank your item or make it worse.

posted this to a similar thread, but just have to put it here also.. I feel your pain and am now playing Prominence on MC instead of what was my 16hr a day favorite pastime:
Agreed, Sanctification REPLACING affixes is ridiculous.
1st time it bricked an amulet I had spent 3bil+ gold rerolling to have 2ga passive and +2 best offense: Sanct replaced Fortitude with max resource… almost quit
2nd time: bricked a 3ga ring … kept playing
3rd time: bricked a Shield… done for season and letting the 6 mythic prankster sigils rot in my stash if I don’t delete the toon before my friends can beg me to run them
was having so much fun with friends this season but how in the actual f* can randomly replacing an Affix be seen as any form of blessing… Im not Sanctifying bs in hopes it will reroll a crap affix into something useful here…. Im Sanctifying items I’ve already invested time in to make it worthy of use as is with hopes that Sanctification will make it Ultimate…not a door stop
Fishing better be done right and if there isnt a loot filter soon I wont be back. not that it matters to anyone but myself and my friends.. Blizzard sure doesn’t care.

Bought the game in December, didn’t have the time to play it until Christmas. Love the paladin class so their inclusion in vessel of hatred sparked my interest.
utterly disappointed in how this gaming experience has played out.
Glossing over the terrible mini map, frequent lag spikes and DC, lack of a proper auction house etc. the crafting system has to be the worst I’ve ever seen in a game. Spend hours gathering materials, search for a proper piece to upgrade; masterwork, temper etc then sanctify and have it change to all stats? Had it happen several times and each instance numbed me further to this game.
Get a mythic? It’s a trade off with your legendary armor unless it is one of the two pieces everyone uses. Got all excited for my first mythic and after putting it on the results were underwhelming. Also, somehow a 3 star was weaker than my 1GA of the same item?
So now I am to the point of using my heavenly sigils to sanctify crap gear before I take a risk and put my good stuff on there. I’ve mostly lost interest in the game after 3 weeks bc I’m stuck: can’t find 3ga gear, nothing to spend it on and now I’m just…grinding out bosses and nightmare dungeons in the hopes of something worthwhile to upgrade?
140 hours in and there doesn’t feel like much of a point anymore.
I really don’t get why people dislike sanctification. It can only “brick” 3 types of items
1 : Legendary Items and Lower
2 : Unique Items that are non-ga (rare)
3 : Sanctifying items you forgot to masterwork/socket. (that’s on you)
Sanctification is there for the end of the process and an OPTIONAL choice. They changed so much with the basic crafting making it impossible to mess up - You can just restore it with a scroll and keep rolling until you get a GA Masterwork, you can just keep rolling it at the occultist until you get the perfect stat, etc. And once you make the perfect item, you then go “Hmm, do I WANT to sanctify this?” because you know there’s a chance it MIGHT do something awesome like drop a mythic affix on it. Chances are you won’t get a mythic affix, but the chance to get one, or some other beneficial stat, is what motivates you to do it to make it even stronger. So you take the risk knowing full well that your perfect roll legendary could potentially get bricked, then get disappointed when it swaps out Cooldown for Poison Resist.
YOU know the risk. It’s an “all or nothing” optional choice. It’s sincerely the ONLY way to mess up an item whereas just last season you had limits to rolling your base item. Instead you can pick EXACTLY what you want on the item in the most friendly crafting system I’ve seen in recent years and reroll it over and over until it’s perfect for you. The ONLY risk comes when you get to the optional part of sanctifying it. If you have an item you absolutely don’t want to risk getting an affix swapped on…just don’t sanctify it. Stick to sanctifying GA Uniques and Mythics or Legendaries that you know you can replace easily. Simple as that.
