Adam Jackson leaves Blizzard

Crazy, this is the guy in all the campfires that never wore the required “flare,” I noticed it on day 1, only one that didn’t have the D4 gear on, knew it was coming, assumed it was a silent protest, gl.

It might be just me, but the tone of the post seems to me he didn’t left on good terms.

I wouldn’t have high hopes, it takes an entire team and not just 1 incompetent member to mess up something this badly seemingly on all levels.

i couldnt care less who joins, or leaves the team. The result is important. That being said, i like diablo, my only issues are with it being too fast. If a new lead would change that, great.

That’s one of two likely explanations. The other being, their boss(es) set a standard for what to prioritize, and how much time & human capital to spend on such tasks.

We have only public statements to go on (few, if any, relevant leaks that I’m aware of). Adam didn’t give off the whiff of a headless chicken - I could point to one or more systems devs who did, but I won’t name names.

OTOH:

  • Rod, the final decider of all things Diablo, went to a legacy magazine, and said the following:
  • He’s always hated the Blizzard mantra “It’s ready when it’s ready”, and
  • He’s shut down subordinates who put that mantra forward as an actual standard in the office, saying things will be different under his watch.

Seriously, that’s on the record & unambiguous. So if we, the consumers, get to connect dots, the universe has given us three giant dots right there.

I like it too. And maybe (gasp) Adam left because he wanted to. I guess its more fun and still trendy to bash d4.

Exactly. Developing a game is a team effort. Heck, even Blizzard said so many times themselves.

Having said that, a creative director is able to set the tone and the big picture by choosing the team to build the game. Unless change happens that high up, also which by this point is too late, it’s business as usual. More slop and less players; essentially fast-tracking putting the game on life support.

Hot take. Unless S8 brings something new or a rework, it probably means the game is already on life support.

right? just imagine people taking job opportunities :open_mouth:

never really understood this communities fetish with the positions in question lol

Sorry, but this isn’t an actual statement. The ‘alternative’ to this is “was forced to”, and I doubt anyone is ringing that particular bell. The general speculations (even surrounding the quality of D4) are perfectly compatible with “he wanted to”.

They fire Adam Jackson but leave Rod Fergusson in place. Amazing. /s

Now that they have an opening you should apply and show them how it is done.

Rod has to be a plague for a creative spirit. I don’t like him. He is a businessman first and does not care for diablo.

I thought it was intended to go to cap#1 pool? I go off of what Maxroll says but yes it seemed odd that there was another huge source going into cap#1.

They seem to have difficulties with numbers. He said at a campfire that he didn’t just want to increase numbers. Ah, that’s very incoherent when we have the druid and necromancer doing zillions of damage and the incinerate mage still useless at t4. It was obvious that the SB wasn’t in a good place with so many nerfs. I know he doesn’t control everything, but he was responsible for the processes and the team. I’ve said this millions of times. Diablo’s numbers are very high, difficult to balance. 2000% criticism is surreal these numbers escalate exponentially and get out of control.

Hes alao missing along with the other Joe , wondering what happened to them. Joe P seemed like a guy who wanted to make a good game.

oh god, we do have quite some people here who should take this opportunity
the forums are bursting with game designers luckily =D

I don’t know who is responsible, all I know is Diablo 4 class balance is a joke, and if we need a new systems dev at the wheel, that’s fine with me. It’s not like Balance can get much worse, when Sorcs and SBs are doing 60x less damage than Necros and Barbs.

Most probably these 2 are heading the development of the last expansion which has an undisclosed release date right now.

Right now, the director of VOH is heading the development for D4. Honestly though, there’s no difference in direction at all as far as I can tell.

Im not even sure anymore if we’ll ever get an other exp. I mean i hope so because i want to fight Diablo before i move on.

For Microsoft to cancel the last expansion it would mean the game has 0 traction.

I think there’s a small core audience that likes the game and if Blizzard manages to keep these players happy then I could see another expansion in the future but in a similar or slightly smaller scale than VOH. But who knows.
