You pay for these things and consume them once or maybe 2-3 times for a good movie, then you are done. A few hours of entertainment for a few bucks and then you have to buy something new. Even at the full $70 without ever playing a season, D4 gives way more entertainment per dollar.
If you don’t want to reset your character because it doesn’t fit your playstyle, just play on eternal. Eternal gets new stuff every season and with every midpoint patch. You can play it at your pace whenever you feel like. If you can’t stand not playing with the seasonal mechanic when there is one, then do that for a couple days before going back to your eternal characters.
Only thing certain is that season 4 will be raining legendaries more than ever because there are now so many mechanics that drop them. They were already way too common imo but soon we will be at d3 level of ridiculous if s4 doesn’t already get there.
No offense, but I don’t need an explanation on how entertainment ‘works’. That being said, the business model D4 is using, has more similarities to a drug, than a game.
Seasonal or Ladder content in Diablo has been commonplace since 2003 it seems. It’s been a typical hallmark of Diablo games to reset the ladder every so often, though it was twice a year in D2.
If Diablo 4 had no seasons then we’d still have eternal but just some new items added every so often and maybe a change to the game at times plus balance changes. I guess they’d add in new quests here and there to be more permanent. Essentially though Eternal already gets everything season gets that is intended to be permanent everytime I think so isn’t it possible to just ignore them if you want?
To combat cheating. Last time I checked, D4 doesn’t promote competition, nor offer it. D4 is a glorified mobile game, without a true PVP element.
Personally, I equate the current Blizzard developers to the ‘new’ software found in microwaves…adding extra steps to the detriment of functionality. It’s no longer a game, but more of a chore.
Bud, the core IS for seasons. Those who aren’t are the minority. You’re gonna need to get that straight.
D3 is by and far the highest selling of the entire franchise. Eclipsing the rest combined.
I’ve played since D1 and they were great… at the time but D1 and D2 did not age well. I just finished S31 in D3 and had a great time. There was no shortage of people to group with. Meanwhile, D2R lobby is a ghost town.
They have stated ad nauseam that this is a seasonal game.
The reason this season is light on the theme is because they are still balancing for these new changes and adding a borrowed power to the mix is counterproductive.
You know what’s funny? The only thing D4 has in common with the original games, is the lore. You’re right, Blizzard turned a single player experience into a tri-monthly online cosmetic store for folks with ADHD.
I guess there will never be a true Diablo experience again and with that, I’m done here (now where’s the delete/ refund button, so I can divest my time and money)…I’m seriously never spending money on this franchise again. F whatever this game is turning into.
Well, to be fair… the game was always advertised as what it is currently from the start. So it, really should have been no surprise.
But I am sorry that you do not find any joy in this game.
Fyi, I am a child of the 80’s.
Edit: And I don’t think it’s cool to make light of ADHD.
Well, in the beginning, people here swore eternal would have the exact same seasonal content, but that’s not the case. As usual, eternal barely gets the scraps.
Did they? I honestly never saw such claims. But I also never looked for them either.
I’m not going to ask you to prove it as it really won’t change anything.
But realistically, there is only so much borrowed power they can put in from the seasons into the eternal realm before it becomes an unmitigated mess.
Or because they know they can get away with it while putting the next seasonal mechanic behind an expansion paywall. From everything I have seen from blizzard, especially with D4, this makes the most sense to me.
It very much seems like focus has changed from loot drops, a pillar of A-RPGs, to item crafting.
Which is quite the shame.
Items have 2 affixes now? It is a bit of a joke tbh.
As for seasons, it would be quite positive to get a better balance between them and eternal. With the same content available in both, at the same time (or maybe with a 2 week delay in Eternal, as Last Epoch seems to be aiming for?)
Season Realm having a handful of resplendent sparks as a “reward” every 3 month, could also be a good balance.
It sounds like if you didn’t try to rush to 100 you might not burn out at 80. Or maybe the 80-100 grind would put you off regardless, so the length of the season wouldn’t matter. Another option is just to play the seasonal stuff until you burn out & then finish leveling in eternal. I can’t imagine any endgame worth putting off for 2 months will be “less fun” in eternal or be “missed” if it’s gone.
I think you’re reading too much into it and we’re speculating.
Crafting is
indeed a major step
for now it’s rather lightweight
filling a big fantasy
However, it’s normal for a heavy base patch coupled with a lesser season content to make it look like eternal would be a more acceptable play.
Only they have the numbers to know whether either seasonal or eternal is played more.
From experience
a season with heavy base game changes lends itself to make eternal tempting as well
and is alternated with a next season with a decent to mid sized seasonal content, where people will definitely want the new content
All in all, they’re welcome to keep us interested.
No one even need resplendant spark if they don’t play in seasonal realm. I can get 4 spark any time to salvage my spare Ubers and I have Duriel material which last for at least 3 more seasons.
Starting over every three months, doesn’t allow for anything but seasonal gameplay. While D4 wants to pretend to be a single player experience, it won’t allow it. Call it what it is. Eternal scraps are not a single player experience. This is more of a mobile online game, than it is, a single player Diablo experience.
KIDS, rewrite history or whatever. You might as well call this an original product, Pepsi Zero. Let the ‘free to play gamers’ dictate our future.
