Happens all the time when your one of the big boys

With a million-dollar botnet. Most of the parts of which don’t even know they ARE part of one.

… loosen the tinfoil hat …

Hell, entire governments can be brought low by DDOS attacks. And not just the smallfry, either!

Because it’s super-popular to hate on Blizzard.

I mean, look at what you’re doing right now.

It does happen. And companies like those, are much more uniquely able to react and respond, because massively redundant internet infrastructure is literally the foundation of their business models.

your comments stop being relevant after you started spouting about syn floods.

Congrats on understanding the tcp/ip stack.

Its not some conspiracy. All the big game companies get it when they launch a successful title.

If 2020 was the most recent time Amazon was visibly impacted by a DDoS (it’s evidently not, as someone else pointed out above), that just goes to show that Amazon is much better at dealing with them than Blizzard is. How many times have we seen Blizzard be affected by a DDoS just in 2023, let alone the past 3 years? Either these attackers are really pulling out all the stops when it comes to hitting Blizzard, or they’re not really bothering to better protect themselves against this stuff.

The AWS infrastructure is hosting a decent percentage of everything. Their ability to deal with redistribution of request would seemingly be exponentially higher. Not to mention that their interest in preventing and resolving those types of attacks would be insanely higher than Blizzards as they sell infrastructure as a service. They probably barely have a budget limit on their security services lol. I only mentioned the 2020 attack due to its significance. You cant really cant make any fair comparison between Blizzard and AWS. Other than its disingenuous to think Blizzard could have 100% prevented this when there are examples of better prepared and more interested outfits being victimized.

How to Instructions to log in right now;

Exit the game, click the gear next to diablo 4s play button, click settings, tic the ‘additional commands’ box, and type -regioneu.

Chars are shared cross region, and regions are cross play, you lose no progress and can play with the same people.

Log in, play, enjoy.

if you are in eu, try -regionus

Don’t ask me why it works, it just does.

If you could play offline you wouldn’t be able to play that character online anyway and you would still be complaining.

DDOS just stands for denial of service, In this case it’s attacking weaker infrastructure like the licensing servers. These servers are built to handle 1 request per person, this request only takes a few bytes of data which is nothing and easy to scale on. However, When a bot net uses it’s full bandwidth which could be in the TBPS range, Those requests turn into trillions and trillions of requests which brings any server to their knees. That’s why you can’t stop a ddos attack, You can only mitigate the attack somewhere else.

Apparently not. (OP, and others who think the same.)

Except it’s NOT Protecting it is it? :man_facepalming:

Are you new to the internet?? Because that comment is naive AF .

DDos attacks have taken out github, Dyn, Aws/Google… There is no 100% protection against a dedicated enough attack, no matter how big you are…

Yeah thats not how this works, like at all, I think your still stuck in the past if you haven’t been keeping up with a lot of todays online only games that are already privately ran, Wow being one of them actually.

He’s just another goof who thinks he knows what he’s talking about, when in reality, he doesn’t have the first clue.
