if you search for that, you will also see a “compact” version which is not the one I got. the compact version is very tight space for cabling and i got big fat guy hands so I needed the extra room since Im kinda clumsy
Yeah, I waited until the price of the card dropped below 1,000 and to make it more affordable, I sold my old 1080 Ti for $425-450 (I’m old and dont remember everything 100%) hah but my wife was shocked at what my old graphic card sold for.
Xbox. I think I’m done PC gaming. Sick of needing to upgrade seemingly every year and spending thousands. The Series X is revolutionary compared to predecessors.
Had an i5-3750K for ever. OCd to 5GHz. Lasted me well into games where min reqs were above it. Rocked a 1070 for ever too. Was able to enjoy everything I wanted to play. I upgrade usually every 7 years as a whole unless I find a good deal on somerhing.
That is one of the biggest myth about PC gaming is that you have to constantly upgrade.
Yeah I mean, those are archaic by todays standards and software tech. You may get by on some seriously low settings. But it’s been 10 years, treat yourself. I don’t normally suggest prebuilts, and it may be a lot easier to find components now, but Microcenter has a power PC line that you can often find good prices for a fully name brand prebuilt. No cheap or proprietary components.
Well, I guess it depends on what your demands are. Got a friend that is content if the game can manage 30 fps at lowest settings. Others won’t play unless they have stable 200 at max settings.
There’s quite the difference in price between those mindsets.
Sure, but if they have that mindset, then consoles are not exactly a replacement.
Anyway, everything except the GPU in a PC can easily stay relevant for 5-10 years. So even if you do want top performance, just replace the GPU like every ~3-4 years and keep the rest.
Ok, so lets say every 2-3 years like most people do. You still end up spending significantly more than you would with a console. And I say this as someone who has been PC gaming for over 30 years.
I’ve done my time with it. I enjoy how revolutionary the new gen consoles are and how they give me exactly what I need.
To be competitive, you do. Top tier PC gamers do not use old machines. There were a few who claimed they did but it turns out, they were lying.
“Required” no. That would mean you cannot game without upgrades but as I mentioned…
Then new games get released that are designed around the newer hardware released.
I personally am not content with gaming at 30 fps on a PC.
But content to do it on a console?
That is not a fair comparison between the two then.
Upgrading GPU every 2-3 year is sensible enough, albeit more frequent than really needed for top performance. On the other hand games are also quite a bit cheaper on PC, and no additional payment for online play. PC might very well come out ahead in that comparison.
They can be if there are sales. I buy tons of games at Gamestop for pre-owned prices.
With the addition of Game Pass and the new PS Plus service, I get access to a ton of games as well and when I do the math, I spend less each year console gaming than I do PC gaming.
The best players? Competitive players? (And do not say “Starcraft”)
I’m fine with 4K resolutions and 60 fps. I may not be getting those “ultra” settings quality textures but lets not kid ourselves here… it’s no different than Ray Tracing. You really have to stop moving, REALLY look or zoom in a bunch just to notice a difference.
Anything modern. I think that goes without saying. If you want to play old games, you can use old machines. That’s no different than console games. I don’t need a Switch to play Super Mario Bros. I can do that on a 1985 NES console.
Just wondered which modern competitive games there are. Most of the competitive games seem low on graphics.
Sadly most of the 60 fps modes use fake 4K at best.
Like, two examples I know of, Elden Ring and Horizon Forbidden West runs at 1800p in performance mode on PS5.
Are you referring to 4K checkerboard? If so, that still looks amazing and even Digital Foundry’s analysis of several games show you’d have to pause and zoom into certain things to even notice.
And that’s perfectly fine too! A resolution of 1800p is still fantastic and if your eyes can distinguish between 1800p and 2160p, you should work for the government. I enjoy the upgrade to sharper graphics with the new gen consoles but you don’t always have to hit that 4K mark. That’s just a marketing thing. People see the magic marketed “4K” and think they have to be right there.
I play Doom Eternal on performance mode and it goes down to 1800p at 120 fps. Still looks amazing and performs very well.
My main point is that the new gen consoles are such a huge leap in improvements that I can confidently game on them without feeling like I’m clearly gimping my potential as I would with PS4 vs PC.
