Pokes the new forum

There are some things that are going to take some getting used to, especially Trust levels. Hitting Trust level 1 is fast, getting to TL 3 that lets you post GIFs, images, and outside links (something nobody could do on the old forums) takes more work and time. You can now easily track posts you care about and get notifications. There is a Blue Tracker as well. Also note, post counts were wiped. You start over and each forum for Blizz now has a separate counter, not the combined count the old forums had.

Here are some guides that Tech MVP WyomingMyst made for the other forum rollouts. This should help explain Trust Levels and some of the formatting features.

Please, MissCheetah could you make a thread like this for the EU forums as well? I am an EU player, I hope it is ok that I post this here. But this post is really informative, so it would be lovely to have it on the EU side as well.

Thank you for reading, have a nice day.

I can try but I don’t know what sort of posting permissions I have there, especially links.

Think we got a problem here.

Trying to re-post several Barb build guides in the Barb forum, but when I go to post it gives me an error message that reads, “Sorry, you can’t include links in your post.”

Err, what?

I’m not sure what this means. We can’t link to outside websites (such as linking to a YT video), or to older forum threads, or to other, current forum threads? Most of our guides have TONS of links in them because we constantly cross-reference information. Any assistance is much appreciated.

Oh, I understand MissCheetah.

Thank you for replying to me. Are EU players allowed to use the USA forums too? I hope so as there is more categories here. Plus we can even make American (and New Zealand and Australian) friends.

Thank you, hope it was ok for me from EU to make this question. Love the new forum, thank you Blizzard.

Thanks for the info. That system is a little ridiculous as it doesn’t take into account folks’ previous forum cred. It also means that popular build guides with hundreds of upvotes won’t be posted for a while due to folks having to spam various topics just to “earn trust.”

I understand the idea, but the implementation leaves a lot to be desired. Really not happy with this aspect.

Yes, you are welcome to use any forum you wish as long as you follow the forum Code of Conduct

I have posted a copy of this thread to the EU forums for you guys.

There is a work around for now until you get to higher trust levels. You can put the link text in code brackets (</> symbol) for now. Example
yourtext
Once you get to TL 3 you can actually do full Wiki style guides, have embedded images, embed youtube links, etc. I know it is frustrating at first though, especially the links bit. Just highlight and use the code button and it will let you post.

How do I know my Trust Level?

Try posting a link?? (Joke)

I told her she’d neva get away with it! Did she listen? No!
Now look what happened!
:stuck_out_tongue:

How to see your Trust Level.

Go into your Activity page, remove anything after your name-number and then add “.json” to the end of your name-realm like this:

https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/d3/u/Maskraider-3992.json

Taken from the WoW forum and adapted for our naming system. The link does not show any personal information when viewed by someone who is not logged into the account. So even if you see your personal info, it won’t display to others.

EDIT - you are currently Trust Level 1 on this forum Mask.

Got it.
Thanks.

Yep. They don’t want one word posts and spam stuff on the forums. You also can’t reply to your own thread until someone else posts. It encourages people to use the edit button. Looking forward to that vs people bumping their own threads for no reason.

Now, if only threads auto locked after a certain period of time…

So according to the Blizz Tracker, there are no blue posts yet. However, Nev has posted at least a couple of pinned topics.

In the past, extremely important information from the blues ended up as a pinned thread. In fact, I’m pretty sure the thread about this forum migration was such a thread.

Are blue pinned posts supposed to appear in the Blizz Tracker? If not, isn’t that going to defeat the purpose of any pinned blue posts? Am I doing something wrong?

You are doing nothing wrong. The tracker depends on the forum groups and permissions being set up and customized. They are still working on that across the board. As individuals are added to the group that is flagged for tracking, they should show up. It may be a few days while they adjust things.

You can see the WoW forum tracker as an example if you wish. It shows what will happen once set up.

Also the Blizz Tracker works as sort of a soft archive for all blue post threads on the new forums (even if they are unpinned later). On the Overwatch forums there is already over 100 posts for Community Managers and over 200 from the “Dev Tracker” (Overwatch, Heroes of the Storm, and Hearthstone teams have Dev Trackers and appear in a different color than Blue).

I myself want to make sure everyone in the Overwatch community has access to all key developer responses, so I maintain a full directory of their official announcements, forum posts, Reddit posts, etc… yes… I am insane with things like that.

Awesome - really, really appreciate the quick responses! Looking forward to learning more about how to use these new shiny forums.

I’m assuming the old forums will remain available in read-only for a while?

I’m just wondering about bug reports. I made a bug report recently on the old forums and was wondering if I should port it over. Shouldn’t be necessary since the bug team will still have access to the old forums and would still be able to see it there?
