Only about 2% of gamers have 21:9 monitors. 2%! And these 2% make a lot of noise on this forum. But, I think that black bars is like rough crutch. I’ll better make some zoom in at ultra wide monitors.
P.S. Steam statistic says that in july 21 only 3,14% of users with ultrawide resolutions with one display.
Zoom is even worse. I rather stay with the black bars.
The Steam survey is completely broken. I have not received the survey on my PC once in the last 5 years, always on the laptop which I turn on maybe once a week
no guarantee that 2% is a real number did they visit all the gamer’s of the world at there home. no i think not so your 2% mean nothing. and your argument is not valid. and when it come to noise making it’s the 16:9 and the pvp community that has been crying unfair Advantage for months and still continue to do so.
If this will be only 2% ppl who buy 21:9 there will be no market for this monitors, as production and storage of those have a cost. Somehow we see more models of 21:9 and 32:9, so there is market for this . You guys should consider many of this 16:9 monitors are just for office, and many ppl prefer run 2: 16:9 than 1: 32:9 - maybe they will prefer to strech out a game for 2 or even 3 monitors, so this depends how you look at this survey(they say only “Primary Display Resolution”). I played many grindy games before i can tell you, many of us play on one monitor and have netflix/youtube on the another screen, its nothing new in this times.
so and how many use steam it’s obvious that’s not 100% of the gamer’s in the world. i have just a few old titles on steam like cs and so on that i haven’t played for like 10 years
I don’t actually see anything that “breaks the game” in this video.
The monsters aggro after you hit them. So what’s the problem? There are many other games out there that support ultrawide, where you potentially have the same PvP issue (they can see you, you can’t see them). Most games support multiple resolutions. Those playing with “low” resolution don’t get as good an image as others – that’s an “advantage”. Those playing with worse GPUs have lower FPS – another “advantage”. PvP isn’t fair – if you want to optimize for it, you need high-end hardware. That’s universally the case.
Great, a blue Blizzard guy finally writes something and then it’s all about ladder. Not a single word on ultrawide. That really can’t be true. BLIZZARD what’s the point?
Thank you so much for linking this vid. If they keep their word and fix ultra wide screen i will have to send them an apology for refunding and purchase the game again.
It create the problem that the game looks broken on ultrawide.
I don’t really care if I can’t target or see beyond a certain point.
However, the fact the UI doesn’t go all the way is just BAD.
Tbh d2 it’s too old and they keeping the same mechannics hinders any kind of potential to solve “newer” problems. If they keep most of the below surface engine untouched would hinder solutions for sure.
Either they stretch the screen like d2 does or any gpu on legacy by default does. Would appear to be ugly but at least can be played on window or resized just fine. I could simulate on beta ultra wide in my wide screen just fine in a window. The black bars could be annoying but stretch the screen either would cut their FoV on top/bottom like any other game or just the picture got distorted, like zoom feature on screens would compromise FoV with benefit of no distortion.
They could just put darkness/fog after certain range. Keeping the FoV the same but with dark/fog. If a player tp in there would tp in the middle of darkness could be useful or not. Mostly would be used after the map were discovered and save some time. Having limits could be a thing but knowing C/T and older tricks like scroll lock makes me wonder if would generate even more problems than benefits adopting fog/dark. Because Skills themselves often have several screens range, the act1 mercenary can kill foes outside the screen without even aggro them, most of the time on widescreen on ultra wide would be way worst.
Other option would be render the game as widescreen then stretch a bit, or just have some kind of design photo around it. While ultra wide screens are great for work, often for games you lose height that sometimes can be useful. So they could find a middle ground in there with some kind of border paired with a bit of stretch.
I really don’t see any “good” solution without affecting PVM aspects, still they need a elegant solution for it. Either some nice pictures, stretch or middle ground like “zoom in” if the engine itself becomes problematic. I’m not referencing balance I just stating the fact the game itself doesn’t work properly either wide or ultra wide. Scroll lock and C/T things are problematic because of it, while C/T became a “thing” for pvp it’s a thing that shows the current flaws on the in game mechannics, I wouldn’t mind if they change how monsters aggro and how skills would perform, but how much that would impact on gameplay and how much money they would be willing to spend on those features are unknown. So I would ask for a middle ground solution that maybe could solve the “visual” appeal without messing with the experience in the game itself.
Wasn’t funny kill mephisto with scroll lock. You could play most of the game without taking a single hit and monsters just “dancing” in the same spot while they took your skills. They have light radius they could solve some issues with it using darkness/fog, but how much they could work would be uncertain for me. None of those solutions would be perfect and only a few of them could be “implemented without much dev cost”.
If its only 2% then what the hell is up with all the PVP cry boys saying its unfair advantage? You will never meet any of us in your game, and of that 2% you have people like me that dont even play PVP i just co-op with my own friends and family.
