Thinking about getting back into this

I havent really played the Necromancer back then much when i bought the xpac for Diablo III and now trying to decide to try the D3 or deal with D4? I got both Diablo IV on Bnet and Steam, not even sure which one to pick. Been hearing alot of rants on both forums that Diablo IV is a flop. So idk what going on and havent got the xpac for it yet either, wasnt even sure if worth getting it.

Diablo 4 was less-than-stellar, to put it nicely, when it first came out. It was almost as bad as Diablo Immortal.

However, it’s come a long way since it’s initial release and isn’t a bad game now. If you’ve already purchased D4, give it a try. It’s still supported and has more players at this point. If you give it an honest try and it doesn’t tickle your fancy, you’re always welcome here.

Alright gonna try on Bnet and see how stable it is. There are up and down from Steam or Bnet so idk what the deal is. What puzzle me is, how playable and how enjoyable, after what i heard can be really hard or get one shotted on Diablo IV boss lol. Hope they manage to improve this time when they added xpac to the game by now. Since i dont own the xpac, i really dont know how it will be. So gonna test it now…

Just like any RPG, being under-prepared can result in a “one shot” or bad boss experience.

As long as you keep your gear decently current, the non-end game elites shouldn’t be a problem. And with the latest patches, keeping gear up-to-date is much easier.

If you don’t like the base game, you won’t like the expansion. It’s the same game, just… more.

If you decide to play D4 wait a few days… a major… like 200+ bug fix patch… is scheduled for tomorrow. But with a patch that large it’s going to be followed by 3-4 hotfixes to deal with the disasters they unleash.

My current “favorite” bug is apparently one of the mercs can kill you. The Kormac replacement Raheir has an ability that will sometimes cause damage to ricochet and kill the character.

You can play the base game without the expansion though. You don’t get runes or mercs but the seasonal quest is available though it’s buggy as well. So if you want something “new” and can put up with problems D4 isn’t a bad choice. If you want smooth game play stick with D3.

So a real SlayPal, but a really lousy replacement.

the only concern I have about d4 is that it feels alot slower to get anything done, and go anywhere… reminds me alot of eq way back in the day in that regard

That has improved from the release version.

I think some veterans of 3 are so used to how fast some things are done. I mean, look at the achievements/conquests for doing a rift in under 2 minutes.

I’ve played lots of D3 (such an amazing game!), and experience can roughly be split into the level and gearing up phase where you get the needed pieces for your build, and then the pushing/grinding phase where you perfect the rolls of your gear, grind paragon and push into higher GR. Different players enjoy these two phases differently in D3, some just do the gearing up part, do some season journey, and then done. Others (like me) blast through the gearing up part in a few hours and then spend the rest of the season pushing and grinding.

I installed and played a bit D4 recently, up to lvl 80 or something, which is still gearing up phase. While this isn’t really the part I enjoy the most, I think the D4 experience is much better than D3. It’s not really slower than D3 (you don’t have all the mobility skills at zero cooldown during leveling in D3), and there are wayyy more things to do. Much more varied. So if you’re enjoying that part of the game, I think D4 is the better game.

As I understand, the D4 end-game is still lacking though, without clear goals like leaderboards or GR levels to achieve, and the end game is essentially to start over on a new toon. There are some temporary leaderboards I think, a bit like challenge rifts, but not really a goal you can work towards over a season like for example GR150 in D3. But I have not gotten to that part yet, and supposedly there are some new end game content in the recent DLC, so I might be wrong here.

How is d4 reg. respecs?
Original d2/lod before patch: Place one point in a wrong skill and there was no way to amend that, you had to start over or live with the wrong placement.
d3: easy relocation.
how is d4 in this regard?

You can respec all you want. You may pay a little gold but it’s negligible now.

Diablo 4 is fun going through the story. After that, it’s 100% dependent on seasons. I played the first 2 seasons, they were both fun. I haven’t played since. I’ll wait till next year after another xpack for more content, maybe another class to play.

Edit.

The D3 Necro is slightly better than the D4 Necro. That being said, I really don’t care too much for the D3 Necro. Hopefully, the survivability is better now for the D4 Necro after your pets die. Tho, I won’t find out till next year after there is new content. Till the, It’s D3 all the way.
