[Solved] Chantodo's damage type

From what I’ve read it should be based on the Archon rune you have but apparently not. Is there a way to change the damage type of the set.

It’s based on your highest elemental bonus on gear. That’s why there is a two elements Chantodo build that uses Flame Blades to temporarily boost Fire bonus over Lightning bonus and make Wave of Destruction deal Fire damage instead. (The build has 19% Fire and 20% Lightning on amulet/bracers)

Chosen rune affects on interact of your elemental damage (on gear and from abilities) and your real damage. If you got more cold dmg on gear, for example, but choose fire rune, your cold elemental damage will not improve your real damage, although it will be visually cold . It was my mistake in s17. I didnt know about it and cleared grs till 129 with wrong rune, and lose minimum 40% of real damage.(much more with cold hole) After rune change easy got +2 grs in couple hours

What HunterKiller and Shu said.

It’s actually pretty easy to see, you can tell what damage type it is from the colour. And it changes dynamically (that’s what makes the two element build possible). Pop Archon and switch bracers/amulet and you’ll see the colour of the wave changes after you swap.

The rune on your bar is a little different. It’s a bit more complicated, but it has to do with how the Chantodo’s wave benefits from the extra damage from your elemental damage bonus. Even though the elemental type of the Chantodo’s wave (affects it’s colour, damage type, and which CoE element it is buffed by) is determined by your highest elemental type on gear, the element type that actually gives it the damage boost from elemental damage is determined by the rune on your bar. If you put the cold rune on your bar and have 40% cold damage, your wave does cold damage (is blue-white and buffed by cold CoE), and it deals 40% additional damage from your 40% cold. If you put the cold rune on your bar but have 20% fire on your gear, your wave does fire damage (is red and buffed by fire CoE), but doesn’t deal any additional damage since you have the cold rune on your bar but no cold% on gear.

For a more complicated example, if you put the cold rune on your bar and have 20% fire AND 19% cold on your gear, the wave does fire damage (is red and buffed by fire CoE) and deals 19% additional damage from your cold damage (NOT 20% from your fire damage), since that is the rune you have on your bar. Despite the wave being fire-type damage. Make sense?

In the case of a tie (you have 20% of two different elements on gear), there is a priority list to resolve ties and determine the elemental type of Chantodo’s/Archon. It follows the same order as CoE, starting with arcane: arcane > cold > fire > lightning.

Perfect thanks for the explanation.
