Is the 50% fire and lightning damage affix a lot rarer than the ring of fire and 5% crit and attack speed affixes? I’ve rolled about 30 of these and I have rolled the 50% affix one time. How many beatings must Diablo, Izual, and Rakanoth suffer? (j/k)
(While I’m led to believe that the Ring of Fire is the most powerful, I’m not a fan at all of “kill X mobs, Y happens”, which is why I played very little of S35. The highest solo GR I’ve ever done is 131 or 132, and at that GR, I need gear that helps me kill the first 50, not gear that helps me more after the first 50).
I’ve rolled a bunch this season and the 50% fire and lightning seems about as common as the others. You do realize that’s the weakest roll on Sliver of Terror.
For the Terror shard I spent a lot of embers to get a ring of fire one with intelligence main stat.
For the weapon shard getting one with death blow and the right elemental damage can also take an unreasonable amount of embers and time… I got one with cold for Tal Rasha cold meteor. But haven’t seen one with fire (and death blow) for my Firebird wizard. I got one with something like +14% damage on top of the standard around 300 damage which gives a significant power boost to the fire damage of the build, so it’s important to check and compare the different shards. (Of course don’t waste embers on the third rank upgrade if the second upgrade gives a wrong element damage… unless you need the shard for augment).
Getting shards and embers I haven’t farmed bosses. I have farmed visions and greater rifts.
The great thing about the ring of fire is that if you can manage it you can build it up close to the one hundred and then release it when you find a juicy elite pack and sometimes even the rift guardian. This may be harder or easier depending on the build and class.
I won’t contest that, but for Gears of Dreadlands it seems to be the best of the three options when equipped with Remnant of Pain and using cold Hungering Arrow to freeze and Strafing with fire Grenades. I’m already auto-critting frozen targets and I move too fast to make any use of the Ring of Fire. (Of course, I’m still trying to figure out how two players completed a GR124 in under 1 minute using GoD this season).
I"m using the same gem in my Marauder’s set and I’m at GR132, so maybe I’ll have to try the crit/atk speed option and see if that makes any difference with 3-4 skills always on cooldown.
