Season 36 start. Old content

Let’s face it everybody, the only reason we do seasonal anymore is for the pets. We get nothing else out of it. Everything we earn gets taken away at season end.
So I guess you could call Blizzard Master Indian givers!

I’ve had all the season cosmetics for a while. I like the process of starting fresh and building up.

Or every studio that has similar mechanics in their games.

I agree, I enjoy starting over and building different characters. Also its not all taken away, I have been upgrading the gear on my Normal account as well. don’t forget the paragon levels also transfer over.

My biggest thrill of each season is the challenge of starting a character from scratch and equipping him with great gear. The length I remaining playing depends on the seasonal theme. I’m pretty excited for this seasonal theme “soul shards”.

Same for me.

This past season I think I only completed the journey and altar, then I stopped. So I didn’t play much this season.

I’ve never found it to be a challenge personally, I just enjoy the fresh start. As I stated elsewhere, when it goes to perfecting your character, you can only chase your tail for so long before you get bored.

The fresh start/themes give me a chance to try something new while enjoying the theme.

Same here… and I’d be surprised if most players still playing the game don’t have all the seasonal cosmetics with maybe the season 4 ones being the exception seeing how they were never repeated… season 3 ones technically were never repeated but recycled code used in future seasons unlocked the S3 portrait and pennant for some.

For me, the seasonal theme now dictates whether I even start a season.

But after I decide to play that season, I usually stick with it till the end. I don’t play to push, I play to build (whether a build/spec I don’t have in NS or I am targeting pieces I don’t have in ancient/primal with the right stats).

If I had my way, NS would have the altar and fissures so I could do this activity there without the trouble of having to deal with fresh starts (which I’ve always despised) or stash tetris every 3-4 months. But, as it is, critical QoL and the best end game gear farming activity is still locked behind seasons and it’s more efficient to do my farming there.

Boring theme? Play something else for a few months easy.

Still think they should…

I never bother with the pets.
This season I am going to play the game in a way I’ve never played it before – levelling with no cr cache! I am a bit scared I play only hardcore.

Yep, exactly.

Though, it would be nice if I didn’t have to organise my game time around 3 month blocks. Would love to be able to play D3 like I did during the first two years where if I had the spare time, I’d log in regularly (D3 is a great unwinding activity for me after a hard day’s work) but if I had a busy period to get through, I could go focus on those things and be able to wind back on D3 without feeling like time in game was slipping away.

These days, I commit to a single class for a season in order to finish speccing up the builds in all ancient/primal gear before season end. I usually don’t want to play the same class again next season. So there’s a timer on things.

Having played seasons somewhat regularly since S5, I’ve put in a lot of seasons without the cache. Wouldn’t do it again… I’m too casual to care about leaving the cache for the altar.

Good luck though!

Can anybody tell me if it’s normal that I’ve never been able to see anybody online to play multiplayer with?

I don’t care about the pets at all. I just like the process of re-leveling/character building as a community and then joining public games. Seeing if I can find some decent primals along the way and then wait for the next season.

Match making in public games is dependent on the difficulty you’re playing at. Also, very few people play in non-season.

You’ll have more luck finding people if you belong to an active clan provided you join the right one that isn’t expecting you to know the meta and be a blaster from day 1 of each season.

I do miss getting new, free, cosmetics for completing the season journey, but never having to worry about conquests is pretty nice too. Starting fresh every three months has always been my favorite part of the season. Non Season for me is essentially a trophy case, so collecting new Primals is fun too.

For me, I’m just looking for a challenge. This season doesn’t really add much. The only thing it offered was trying to beat the 1-70 record for my tastes, and that’s very RNG dependent, and you only get up to 3 attempts per season.

That’s why I liked the conquests. I enjoy trying to solve challenges, rather than just grinding away at stuff. (Why I’m probably a terrible Diablo fan.)

did you manage?
Or are there still 1 or 2 attempts left?

I did, but someone else beat my time.

Previous fastest time to 70 was 23:29 (Barbarian) by Kondyss in Season 30. I managed to get 23:27 (Necromancer) this season on Americas but was beaten by Draxlin (Monk) with a time of 22:55.

That’s just the importance of the RNG when it comes to diamonds. Just searching for diamonds in unsuccessful attempts was 1:16.

That’s where The Darkening of Tristram helps, in that it’s concise and be done roughly in 5 minutes vs 7 minutes spent this season.

Though we’ve had two Darkening of Tristram events now and two Soul Shard seasons, and the fastest times have by everyone seem to be consistent with the Soul Shard seasons.

Under 20 minutes to 70 should be possible as a Necromancer, but it would require either luck in a season (gem goblin), or a clean run (short route to the cube, and 2 diamonds off Kulle, and no reloading for Cursed Chests).

Next season though should fall in the Darkening of Tristram, though it’s also a Sprinter season, which is another season where my last objective with Diablo 3 lies, though that will require luck as well. (Final goal is <90 minutes into the season to complete Sprinter, but either you need to gamble an Aether Walker or have a well-oiled party of 4, being that next season’s set will be Firebirds).

Where do you keep track of these times? There are leaderboards on conquests, but not on 1st to lvl 70. Or is it an external online database or something where people post their times? I also think it matters if you do it in a group or like you solo.

Your first 70 Achievement Points will be hitting Level 70. Every other achievement requires you to be in a 70 game. And that leaderboard does allow you to view timestamps of the completion.

It’s not a perfect indicator, for example, let’s say you were #200 to 70, as someone else could be in a group where the player who started the game was Level 70, and they were Level 68, but for the first few people to hit 70, it’s close enough. And honestly, if you’re in a group who has a player who’s 70, you’re going to be practically 70 yourself, or at least you’re contributing to seasonal challenges.

Since the altar, around the 25-minute mark, I check the leaderboard every 5 minutes, so I can get everyone on 70 Achievement Points, before they start getting more Achievement Points. It is technically possible to get 80+ in this 5-minute span, though that would require you to pretty much forgo setting your skills, or playing T2. (Completing a Rift is also theoretically possible, but you’re not going to be first to 70 if you touch rifts, so I don’t need to worry about that).

But for the first 10 people to reach 70, it’s pretty accurate, and I’ve never had to deal with complications.

As for group vs solo, he did it in a 4-player group, where solo is typically faster for the later portions (post Level 50). Pre-50, group would be faster. Or if the group is providing you gear so you don’t need to do the crafting. Or they’re running to the cube while you craft, so you can parallelize tasks.

They didn’t stream, so I don’t know how they did it, but I’m assuming an early diamond. That’s really the key. Every class can hit 70 in 10-20 minutes once fully geared in 70 gear. The key is getting the diamond asap. (And a monk getting to 70 with 2 Necromancers in the group makes no sense otherwise.)

You can see their run, just not his (draxlin) pov. That metalhead has a video of it on youtube.
