People have used third party programs to improve loot visibility for over 20 years in this game. So much so that games like Path of Exile and Last Epoch now just incorporate loot filters baseline into the game.
Ironically, D3 has no loot filtering. Their “crafting” system encourages you to pick up lots of garbage and salvage it though.
I personally don’t mind having optional alternative looting systems like a built in rolling system, loot allocation and honestly wouldn’t care that much even if they went full ploot.
However, even if they did any of those things, I would still want a loot filter system on top of that. It has different uses and purposes. I would still be using a loot filter in solo games for example.
The color difference of unique items would likely draw both of their eyes there first. I do think the default unique color is kind of hard to see though so I’d advise anyone using a loot filter to change the color of uniques to stand out a lot more.
I’d also point out that controller vs. KB+M has a massive dramatic difference in ease of loot far beyond a few differences in how many items are on the ground. Blizzard isn’t doing anything about that at all currently. A loot filter system would help bridge the gap between the two looting modes by letting controller users have fewer land mines to avoid in attempting to loot what they actually want.
Not necessarily, unless that color difference is a blinking flashing light towards the sky with a minimap icon (D3). Then we’re looking at item spacing as well and what the total item display limit is (ie what text is displaying first over other text).
In any case, I’m not an anti-changer. I do want changes, however I also want changes that make sense. Loot filters do not make sense in FFA. I was also against Charm Inventory at first too, due to it being a potential change in balance in FFA loot. However, the pros outweighed the cons in my eyes, and would be for it’s implementation.
This is most likely the best case scenario then if 73% of people (from reddit) want loot filtering.
The only other solution to loot filtering I could see is if they added in hot keys so people could first hold down their “valuables only” key, and then switch to “all junk” mode so they’re not at a disadvantage to other players.
Also I respect your opinions, I wasn’t targeting you with my rude comments (it’s just for fun).
Same.
I see it the same way. I have no idea how loot filters worked in PoE, but if someone wants to actually show how it doesn’t cause an unfair advantage playing with randoms in public games, then I would be ready to change my opinion.
Because ppl dont play “public” games in PoE, because ploot is useless and bad and its not even used because soloplay is more efficient, even with increased quantity with party members, just like how it is in D2. For soloplay lootfilters make sense.
I think there is an obvious advantage in loot visibility and accessibility with a filter vs. no filter. If the system was built into the game and easily accessible (I personally prefer Last Epoch’s loot filter system), anyone that cares about making certain drops more visible would be doing that. Even if you didn’t want to hide anything, you could potentially do things like re-coloring or other types of emphasizing to draw your attention to what you want most immediately.
In Last Epoch, there are crafting reasons to potentially pick up and fracture or craft on various items, but people still use loot filters. Even just re-coloring and emphasizing certain items is very useful. Last Epoch doesn’t even have multiplayer yet so it’s impossible to say how loot drops will work once multiplayer is added.
I’m not sure if there are games that have both loot filters and FFA loot for a direct comparison since I don’t think most games have used FFA looting in a long time for the most part. You can turn FFA loot on in PoE, but by default it has a loot allocation system on (with an optional temporary allocation system you can use). Some items are always FFA, but items that tend to have higher value get allocated to a specific player. If you care about loot fairness you’d be using loot allocation in that game, so nobody would ever consider caring about what filter anybody is using.
I’ll also throw out that some basic loot filter features should also be viewed as a basic accessibility feature. Some colors are harder for people to see. They should bare minimum have a re-coloring loot filter system, even if they left out being able to hide items.
If PoE development was driven by player feedback I’d think they’d have implemented a better trade system years ago. Or added an alternative leveling path instead of having to do the campaign over and over again.
PoE’s biggest problem is that they don’t really listen to their players much.
“Rod Fergusson Approves of Popular Change Requests”
dang this title is perfect.
everyone wants to invalidate any surveys because the sample size isnt big enough or it wasnt officially blizzard. It may weaken the results a bit, but i still think all polls like this hold some validity.
Although i am REAL curious as to the results of the actual blizzards serveys they sent out months ago. Wouldn’t you guys? Since that survey is most likely what they are mainly using to determine changes.
Their problem is that they listen to reddit too much (look at removing flask piano, when they do, ppl cry that flasks are useless and they rather want piano back. And like it comes out in the song, you get angry if we dont drop something, when we drop something, you get angry we drop something), there are several games where the devs just plain out stopped listening to redditors on how to develop a game.
The difference is, this isn’t just the opinion of Reddit. That survey, was promoted here, d2jsp, Reddit, and streamers (I think Rhyker was the main one that streamed it). It was widely available, and I think that the developers already have a plan to implement things into D2R post launch, seeing how they have been open to changes in media interviews, have openly acknowledged these surveys, and said they can push things that they agree with, as well as the fact that they have their own data from 2 sets of their own surveys.
Also, the Beta offered a survey in the game itself.
Yeah I was thinking the only way I see loot filters existing in D2 is ON TOP of a loot allocation system. So I have no idea how 73% of people are asking for loot filters without an optional allocation system.
Yeah it seems like solo/allocated loot makes the most sense for it.
The main problem with all these polls is they are often posted on primarily Diablo 2 centric communities; so players advocating for no changes are probably over represented. Blizzard’s own surveys are probably a lot closer to the will of the general populous.
Like i posted earlier on this topic, add a question to the poll “where did you find this poll from? 1. Reddit 2. blizzard forums 3. d2jsp” and we shall see whos opinion the poll really is Also whoever made this poll is biased asf, “do you indentify as a 2 player?” Yeah sure maan i played it once for 10 minutes at my friends house when i was 9 but im gonna say yes and leave my input without having any actual clue about the game. Those answers just are such casuals that claim they identify as d2 players but most likely played it for few hours in their lifetime. Add a vote asking how frequently and approx for how long have they played D2, give them a trivia of basic game mechanics, and we shall see again how valid that poll is
theres a distinct sound when there are drops of runes and gems… hardly will miss it unless your playing without sound. filter probably works more for melee/range/wands weapons etc if u want to class specify them for picking. but overall i feel it changes the game experience and will feel more like POE.
“Yeah it seems like solo/allocated loot makes the most sense for it.”
Na just for soloplay, not any sort of MP allocated loot, icould rant on why but i think someone already covered why.
