Requiring pre-order to post in D2:R forums is a load of crap

Hammer, meet nail! At least let D2O licence holders take part. Trolls can be moderated. Hell, the community loves flagging trolls.

Or you could pre-order it and not compare it to the Blizzard mistakes in the past with WC3:R.

Don’t put D2:R in the same category as that pile, it’s not Bliz devs doing D2:R it is VV. VV has partnered up for it all, but it’s their team, not classic teams.

You always want to be the rain cloud on the forums Hogg, probably best that you can’t go in there for free.

While you are entitled to your opinion, you are not entitled to personal attacks for free. V. V might be assigned the task of doing the work but V. V and Blizz are both under the control of Activision. Trust is earned. Just like I would have to jump through hoops on this forum to earn tier 3 privs. As I said before I am not paying to post for a game that is still in development. Sorry I’m not not buying the ā€œit’s a totally different game broā€, when it uses the same game engine, game RP elements, and internal systems. Of course attempt to use that as an excuse to gate forum access, when Resurrected does not add new content and is not and expansion.

You’ve gotten your troll cookie for the day now move along.

Sorry to burst your bubble but Activision has no control over D2:R. They don’t even have control over the original D2 smh. Do some research before you try to educate.

Pay attention to that lovely new launcher and realize that the games are separate on there for a reason. Activision has their own games to deal with.

Blizz and V. V are subsidiaries of Activision. If you can prove that to be wrong then I’ll take you seriously.

Just post your feedback here. They wont make a D4 forum, so might as well fill the D3 forum with D2R post as well.

It is all a mess.

No, they are not.

Blizzard - Activision (ATVI) is a stock holding corporation that has several subsidiaries - most of which have their independence with it comes to game development. Activision and Blizzard both remain their own game making companies under that stock holding entity.

Under ATVI you have the individual game and entertainment entities.

  • Activision Publishing (CoD, etc.)
  • Blizzard Entertainment (Blizz franchises)
    – Vicarious Visions merged into Blizz
  • King (Candy Crush, etc.)

Then there is

  • Activision Blizard esports (maybe where MLG went?)
  • Activision Blizzard Consumer Products
  • Activision Blizzard Media

The last all seem to be under direct control of ATVI to promote and market products related to the franchises under the studios.

Put more simply. Vivendi owned Blizzard. In 2008, Vivendi merged with Activision to form Activision Blizzard.

That is not the case though. Blizzard CMs are active on, and collect feed back from, may sources. Those include reddit, twitter, Diablo oriented forums/websites made by fans, streams and stream comments, etc. They scoop up a lot of feedback from many places. Most of which are free to post on.

I also have a critical view of this development, and I don’t think it’s all that unimportant.

One must only spin this further, how one forces us at the end everywhere about such means. This is not a positive development of the Internet and its possibilities for people.

Ok here we go splitting the hairs and digging into the weeds… A quick google search of ā€œwho owned Blizzard before Activisionā€.

Straight from google:

On July 25, 2013, Activision Blizzard announced the purchase of 429 million shares from majority owner Vivendi.

The above and merger is what created ActivisionBlizzard. Kotick was the CEO of Activision before the merger and is the CEO of ActivisionBlizzard.

From the ā€œabout usā€ page on the activisionblizzard website, there are 3 operating units:

  • Activision
  • Blizzard Entertainment
  • King

Straight from Google. ā€œWhat is the difference between a subsidiary and an operating unitā€:

The primary difference between business units and subsidiary units lies in their ownership. A business unit is a department or functional area within an organization. A subsidiary is owned or controlled by another company and may have its own business units.

Blizzard functions more like a semi-autonomous subsidiary than a department under ActivisionBlizzard. When I said Blizz was a subsidiary I was referring to it as a semi-autonomous subsidiary. Kotick might be hands off when it comes to the dirty details and management of any particular game, franchise, or development team within ActivisionBlizzard but he does have the power as CEO to issue directives/orders, authorize and revoke authorization. Vicarious Visions prior to the merger into Blizzard would still be within ActivisionBlizzard and a separate organizational unit from Blizzard Entertainment.

When I say Activision it is to refer to ActivisionBlizzard because the former CEO of Activision (the now operating unit) is the CEO of the merged end result of that stock purchase referenced above. There is no point in referencing Activision the operating unit. It is pretty obvious who controls who and who controlled the purse strings at the point of and after the Activision/Blizzard merger of 2013. It may be spelled ActivisionBlizzard but its the old Activision and its corporate culture/policy/attitude that has power within that corporate container. I don’t care about Activision the operating unit. I don’t buy their games. I haven’t purchased a game from the old pre-merger Activision since PitFall ('82 or '83).

@Adda:
I still haven’t been proven wrong. Although, MissCheetah has provided some great clarification. I’m still not pre-ordering the game. It is still a load of crap when I’ve purchased:

  • D2 and its expansion
  • D3 and all of its expansions
  • War 3 and both expansions
  • Starcraft and its expansion
  • Starcraft 2 and all of its expansions
  • Starcraft Remaster

I’m not paying to discuss a game in an online forum when I have not decided if said game is worthy of my entertainment dollars. My prior purchases should be more than enough to earn me access to the forum to discuss the upcoming game. None of the above requires an on-going sub. like WoW.

So thank you Adda you may go now. You don’t need to reply unless you have something constructive to add beyond suggesting I pre-order. You can keep your troll spittle and personal attacks to yourself.
