Remnant of Pain bug

I upgraded a Remnant of Pain with +73% Cold Damage.

When I socketed the shard, the Cold Damage dropped to +58%.

I have screenshots but I don’t know how to upload them in this forum.

Edit: same thing happens with another one. 70+ Arcane dropped to 50+ Arcane. But it doesn’t happen to all of them.

I noticed this too. But, the item is way more powerful with the Shard than without it.

I think it may have something to do with the way Damage is calculated. (Some numbers aren’t included in the Details Sheet).

I’ve got the same issue. Screenshots:

In bags: https://snipboard.io/jpg8Sx.jpg
Weapon: https://snipboard.io/AcbvJm.jpg
Slotted: https://snipboard.io/TQZVPw.jpg

Damage goes from 47% to 28% when slotted.

Yeah. But…

  • The Sword, without the Shard, has a Damage of 2,681.3
  • 47% of 2,681.3 = 1,260.21
  • With the Shard inserted in the Sword the total Damage is 3,953.2

   2,681.30
+ 1,260.21
   3,941.51

   3,953.20
-  3,941.51
         11.69

The 11.69 difference could be from the 136% CHD increase and the 15% reduced CHC.

(Someone who knows more about game mechanics could probably explain it better).

Not sure why it would change in the Shard text though.

That isn’t quite how it works, and you’ve missed that the shard has +277 damage on it. The damage calculations for the min and max damage range and for DPS are:

  • Damage = (base + elemental + bonus damage) * (1+damage%)
  • DPS = APS * (min_dmg + max_dmg)/2

Level 70 legendary swords have 168-392 base. This Shard of Hate has +1389-1699 Fire damage, no bonus damage and no +damage%, resulting in

  • Damage range = [(168 to 392) + (1389 to 1699) + 0] * 1 = 1557 to 2091
  • DPS = 1.47 * (1557+2091)/2 = 2681.3

This matches what is displayed before the addition of the shard.

The equipped shard says +277 bonus damage and +28% damage. That would be:

  • Damage range = [(168 to 392) + (1389 to 1699) + 277] * 1.28 = 2438 to 3031
  • DPS = 1.47 * (2438 + 3031)/2 = 3953.2

This matches what is displayed with the shard added.

If the shard gave +47% damage, as it said it would before it was socketed, the calculation would be:

  • Damage range = [(168 to 392) + (1389 to 1699) + 277] * 1.47 = 2696 to 3481
  • DPS = 1.47 * (2696 + 3481)/2 = 4540.1

Clearly, the bonus damage really did change from +47% to +28% when socketed.

Thanks for the clarification.
