If they pay for a full-price, AAA game, they expect it to be fully functional on release. Please see the recent Warcraft III release for how that goes.
It was ok. I had no issue with it really, other then it being the same boring game I recall. The issue was the people expecting things they really should not have expected.
Also, fully functioning? You kidding right? The days of fully functioning games on release day went out with day one updates and the minute people started excepting that things could be fixed with an update.
It’s not a ‘‘best argument’’ it’s only a fact, this unfortunately happens and the best to do is to learn from it, emotions aren’t the best thing to bring up in these case.
D3 simply didn’t have the proper game director, Jay Wilson is good but not for this kind of franchise, honestly without RoS I wouldn’t even bother playing this episode.
Yeah and its a fact that even if Breviks Ideas werent always the best and he needed support from staff, he wouldnt have decided to design and implement a ridiculous childish whimsydale unicorn level with smiling clouds and party piñata and kill the most iconic character in Diablo by a stupid mocking butterfly. Its clear that Max Schaefer is the mastermind when it comes to polishing ARPGs.
I dont know, you should watch GDC of Jay Wilson “Shout at the Devil” about what he talks about and refrain what your opinion about his game design is, but i agree that his higher-ups like Rob Pardo werent more straightforward either… you might as well look at the amount of likes/dislikes and all comments on that videos either.
Also IIRC they wanted to change D4 POV from isometric to a similar way like Dark souls with 3rd person view and when they scrapped this Mosqueira left D4 developtment team.
And lets be honest… not many people fancy that huge buff of raining legendaries/set drops with loot 2.0 in RoS and the hamsterwheel “progression” of paragon system 2.0
what? people still waste their money?
They went out because people had pre-ordered so companies already had your money so didn’t need to ensure the product worked on delivery day.
That is the biggest load of crap it makes you sound like you are in your teens lmao. Please tell me you dont really think that. I would hate to think any less of you lol
It’s not completely true but there’s an aspect of truth to it. For every good game we get there’s another Anthem or Fallout 76 that attempted to sell itself entirely on hype and pre-orders for people who didn’t know they were getting an unfinished mess of a game.
but sure, everybody who doesn’t agree with you is obviously just a teenage neckbeard with too much time on their hands.
Because that mentality just screams maturity =P
No there isnt. As there have been preorders all the way back to the OG NES.
Its only this new generation that has issues with things like waiting for something, and ownership that was the issue.
If it was really all that bad people wouldn’t have caused it to change. Yet here you are all complaining about a problem you caused.
“Y’all are so addicted to bein’ hopeless victims y’all could crash a plane and blame the road conditions
And your only sickness is your social vision, makes you scared of choices but you’re pro-decision
So you march a lot but never go the distance, yellin’ way too loud until no one listens”
Now as for people agreeing with me or not. I tend to be in circles where none of us agree with each other. Its the only way to hear the truth and not some echo chamber. The teen comment was due to them not knowing that preorders were fine for the longest time.
Sure preorders have been a thing since the NES and honestly probably before that. Hell the idea of a store holding onto an item for you to come pick up later is something I’m sure is as old as the idea of stores in general.
but pre-orders is part of what has allowed games like Anthem and Fallout 76 to be financially successful despite being trash and clearly unfinished games. A lot of games get by on having massive hype and selling a bunch of copies before players realize they’re being duped.
Which just because not all publishers in history have abused it doesn’t mean it’s not a problem. Plus it’s not like back in the old days of gaming we didn’t have shoddy games that baited unwitting people into buying it.
Half baked games that try to sell people just on hype has been around for decades, and pre-orders are a big part of that. We had the whole video game crash in the 80s where this played a decent part in causing it.
Not that I think we’re heading towards another crash, but clearly this has the potential to cause some problems.
My point is more that it mostly just makes you look like the immature one to resort to personal attacks.
And for everyone who played Anthem and 76 and found it trash there is someone who enjoys it. I’d also bet most who bash them never played to actually know.
Ultimately, we should let the individual decide if they want to preorder or not. Bad practices or not, if someone perceives value from a preorder, who are any of us to tell them they are wrong? I know some will, but value is individually created and not universal.
Wow are you wrong. We had many terrible games that was hyped up to be the next big thing. But most were unaware as they were just happy to play. Mk2 is a great example. Buggy beyond all get out and it still sold millions.
I wouldn’t know about any crash. I was running an arcade then and gaming at home every night. It was great times.
The bottom line is the pre-orders have nothing to really do with it. They have been around longer then this issue. No what the problem is, is the people. They accept it and let it go. Recall the gaming glove? When it bombed what happened? That company went out of business. Remember the animator that made the animated hobbit that failed badly? Guess what happened? He never worked again.
People just need to stop going off hype. Accept that any game can be good or bad and stop wanting others to feel bad because you bought a bad game. I have tons.
Well 6ou failed as it wasn’t an attack it was a statement that had merit behind it. Most gamers these days are kids at best. So if they think pre-orders really are the issue then they were not around long enough to know that it wasn’t an issue until recently and of something that has been in the public for years is only an issue lately then it is by logic the public that is the issue.
OK fallout was doomed to fail.
Ding ding ding get this man a cookie.
See I pre-order every game even d3 which I think is the worst of the d series yet. But it was fun and gives me a few hours of play time a week. So worth the money. Hell I spend more window shopping then I do on a game.
I just wanted to point out that I just got home from work and my in-laws brought cookies.

(Hmm…I thought the Power Glove was by Nintedo)
I’ve also actually played them.
I said earlier I’m not going to tell people what to do with their money, but this is also an internet forum in a thread about pre-ordering. I’m also not going to hold my opinion back that I think people should be more wary about pre-ordering, or about why I think pre-ordering is primarily a bad thing for the players.
You’re free to shrug and go “I’ll do whatever I want”. It adds literally nothing to the discussion and I’m going to assume you’re posting it just for the sake of trying to be contrarian, but you’re free to do it.
Okay, and? We’ve also had plenty of games that were terrible and sold heavily on pre-orders.
An example where that something else happened is hardly the solid evidence that this isn’t a thing. That’s kind of like saying “I survived being set on fire, therefor saying you can die from it is wrong”.
The video game crash of 1983 is a pretty well documented thing. Granted the reasons for it are a bit more nuanced than pointing at any one factor. It resulted in an estimated 97% drop in revenue from video games in consoles.
Pre-orders don’t pre-date this problem because this problem has been going on for a long time.
Though with the internet being a lot more prevalent now, it certainly is easier to hype up large groups of people through advertising.
1, the didn’t play it but bash it wasn’t directed at you but at the many who didn’t but feel free to bash it.
2, one mans trash is another man’s treasure. Just because someone says it’s garbage you shouldn’t waste your money, doesn’t mean it’s a universal truth.
3, not being contrarian at all. I make my own value judgements. One thing I learned selling was it make a value judgement for someone else. Once you do you typically lose the sale or sell way less than you could. Same with these arguments, once somone starts telling others what they should be doing with their money they lose their argument.
As for me I already stated my criteria for preordering. If I perceive that I’m getting value for my money then I’m going to preorder. If not I’ll get it day one or whenever I decide to purchase it. It isn’t about shrugging of yours or others opinions. I understand. There is o point to preorder a digitally distributed game. There are no supply issues like physical can have. But if I get the game 10% cheaper, get cross game goodies for other games I play, and or in game extras, I’d be dumb not to. The value exceeds the price.
Look, get over it. There will always be hype, there will always be pre-orders and there will always be bad games. The main reason this will always happen is because for every loud mouth complaining about the game, there are hundreds sitting back and enjoying the game. No matter how bad the game is.
I am sure it is but I dont bother with the past. It can stay there. I prefer to live in the moment.
Also pre-orders dop predate this issue. Pre-orders pre date video games. My fathers 65 stang was a preorder. You have been able to pre-order things since the dawn of shopping.
This is very much true. You don’t even have to look beyond this franchise to see it. There are people that claim Diablo 1 is the best. There are others that claim Diablo 2 is the best, and others that Diablo 3 is the best.
Bad is subjective. What one player says is a bad game another might enjoy. I didn’t care of Path of Exile, but there are a lot of people that love it.
As to the stuff on pre-ordering. I’ve only pre-ordered a few games, but they were all games that interested me very much and the pre-orders were damn cheap since they were small or indie developers. 12 bucks isn’t much to risk, I probably spent more on coffee this week.
Pre-ordering has existed long before the current video game boom. Anyone old enough to remember the Star Wars Christmas package back in the 70’s? With the cardboard stand?
https://www.denofgeek.com/movies/star-wars-how-an-empty-box-became-a-must-have-item-in-1977/
Probably my gripe is a lot of preorders I’ve seen lately feel like the Star Wars one, hahaha.
I hope D4 is way more better than D3.
